Texas: Bring us all your Covid.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:00 PM ^
On Saturday, Texas reported just under 18k new Covid cases while California was over 43k
December 19th, 2020 at 11:24 PM ^
Exactly, California politicians think they're smarter than everyone else. All they want to do is control people's lives, I'm getting so fucking sick of this stupid state.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:31 PM ^
So move then.
That is what your ilk likes to say correct?
December 19th, 2020 at 11:40 PM ^
Fuck you jackass, I'm planning on moving, thanks for your permission.
December 20th, 2020 at 1:30 AM ^
Let's everyone just relax. Too many friends of mine have moved, citing COVID or I don't know, politics. Don't read too much into this COVID reaction shit. It will be over within a year. If your long term goals lead you elsewhere, OK, but COVID lockdowns are like everything else in this world only even more temporary.
December 20th, 2020 at 10:27 AM ^
Covid has nothing to do with how fucked up California is.
December 20th, 2020 at 8:46 AM ^
You are so obviously not from San Diego lol
December 19th, 2020 at 11:35 PM ^
There are many more states with much more freedom. Not to mention better cost of living. Find a good match for you.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:44 PM ^
Yeah man, planning on it, moving closer to your neck of the woods.
I hope your surgery went well, XM mentioned it in one of his OP's.
December 20th, 2020 at 8:47 AM ^
echo chamber
December 20th, 2020 at 6:57 PM ^
Surgery went well. Recovering. Thanks for asking!
December 20th, 2020 at 7:26 AM ^
Not a beautiful, but yeah, everything else.
December 20th, 2020 at 12:17 AM ^
Worth noting that Texas' total cases and deaths per capita significantly higher than California's.
December 20th, 2020 at 7:27 AM ^
Not a knock against you, but I'll be so glad when this shit is no longer relevant.
December 20th, 2020 at 8:11 AM ^
That is true for the moment, but looking at active cases California is the hotspot right now:
December 20th, 2020 at 12:26 AM ^
good luck finding a place where politicians don't think they are smarter than anyone else
December 20th, 2020 at 2:52 AM ^
Too bad, I love San Diego. Try going south of the border.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:32 PM ^
Well, the county in Texas where Jerry World is located has a 17% positive rate while the county where the Rose Bowl is located is at 14.7%, so Texas ain't doing so hot there.
Also, Texas only ran 34k tests Saturday; CA ran 371k. I'm not great at math but seems like Texas has a higher positive rate there.
Anyway, it's pretty clear that the NCAA is going to Texas because they'll let fans in the stands, which is absolutely a bad idea unless your main goal isn't the safety and health of students, community members, and family but instead money.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:36 PM ^
The ol' can't have positive tests if you don't test trick. Good on ya' ol' chap. Cheerio.
/s
December 20th, 2020 at 1:36 AM ^
It's really a genius move. Surprised nobody hasn't tried it earlier.
December 20th, 2020 at 8:26 AM ^
- California has 10 million more people than Texas (and better access to testing/lower positivity rates per cases identified), so the difference in raw numbers of newly reported cases needs more context.
- CA is worse than TX right now in identified cases, even per capita. However, that's essentially the first time since early spring it has been that way. Texas has been worse throughout all of summer and fall, until a week or so ago. Also, right now, more Texans are dying on a daily basis than Californians per capita, even though California is identifying more cases (0.7/100k in TX, 0.6/100k in CA). Deaths are a lagging indicator, but still worth noting, especially because TX is likely missing a higher percentage of cases due to less testing.
- Since the pandemic started, 5.5% of Texans have had confirmed cases of COVID, compared to 4.7% of Californians.
- In the most important statistic, deaths: 25,841 Texans have died, compared to only 22,651 Californians. Taking population into account, this is a huge difference (89/100k in TX vs. 57/100k in CA, meaning COVID-19 has been 56% more deadly in the Lone Star State than on the Golden Coast).
December 19th, 2020 at 11:19 PM ^
Really? You wanna tell us how we're handling this whole pandemic wrong here in Texas?
December 19th, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
They believe what they see on TV.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:32 PM ^
You probably wear a mask in your car.
December 19th, 2020 at 10:58 PM ^
Brian Kelly will be happy as he can watch it from home in the same time zone.
December 19th, 2020 at 10:58 PM ^
Smart move, but you can't call it the Rose Bowl.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:29 PM ^
They did in 1942.
December 20th, 2020 at 12:18 AM ^
Those were the days before sponsorship, though--you can't get away with that kind of thing now.
It's the Grandaddy Of Them All, The College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Rose Bowl Presented by Jerry Jones and Legends Hospitality.
December 19th, 2020 at 10:59 PM ^
WTF Gavin? I thought Garcetti knew what was best?
December 19th, 2020 at 11:00 PM ^
Double Post.
Taking this opportunity to note that the Shitty Cowboys won't be using this venue for a playoff game any time soon.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:03 PM ^
Pasadena owns the name 'Rose Bowl'... They will have to call it something else.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
THE Rose Bowl
December 20th, 2020 at 1:23 AM ^
THE pronounced THE OSU way.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:04 PM ^
Will be interesting to see if this remains the Rose Bowl Game, but in Arlington (similar to the 2006 Sugar Bowl in Atlanta) or they just rearrange the rotation.
I’m a sucker for tradition so I hope they just shuffle the rotation. It just wouldn’t be the same without all the things that make the Rose Bowl the Rose Bowl.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:04 PM ^
As a SoCal resident, my only comment is, “good.”
December 19th, 2020 at 11:26 PM ^
Right there with you brother!
December 19th, 2020 at 11:05 PM ^
Well, if you wanted to play at some place the exact opposite of the Rose Bowl, then job well done.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:10 PM ^
The Rose Bowl wanted an exception to allow 400-500 fans on a stadium that seats 95,000 per the LA Times. The answer was no. It’s been a while since I have been there but let’s use Michigan Stadium as a close example. 44 sections for 500 people is roughly 11 people per SECTION. Or about one person every 10 rows. Just nuts the state wouldn’t give them the OK.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:10 PM ^
This is the dumbest state ever....someone get me out...help! I mean it's okay to pack a bus or metro train in LA, but having 1k people in the Rose Bowl is a no-go.
December 19th, 2020 at 11:33 PM ^
One instance is more or less people going to work. The other a leisure activity. .....Seems like there is a difference here...
December 19th, 2020 at 11:47 PM ^
So concession workers, refs, coaches, media and support staff amdont count as work? Interesting
December 20th, 2020 at 4:03 AM ^
How many people were they going to employ to usher in and serve concessions to 500 people? If they had let families in, there's no way they were serving food.
December 20th, 2020 at 8:39 AM ^
So people don't get covid if they are packed in a small area going to work, but the people spaced a hundred or so feet in an open air stadium do? This lacks common sense.
December 20th, 2020 at 9:58 AM ^
December 20th, 2020 at 11:03 AM ^
I don't want to interfere with your rhetorical device, but since I live in LA I have to say it makes no sense. Where are you seeing packed buses and trains in Los Angeles? The ones I see are practically empty and Metro recently reported ridership was only 40% of normal.
