Not like this matters because he can live anywhere in the Bay Area and coach the Raiders (many Lakers and USC coaches live in Manhattan Beach which is not that close to downtown) Piedmont is also very nice, and is basically in Oakland.
November 4th, 2014 at 4:48 PM ^
Kobe lives, or at least lived, in Newport Coast (Newport Beach), which is also not very close to downtown. He had a helicopter, which was pointed out to me by a cab driver when I was there for an interview. /coolstorybro
November 4th, 2014 at 4:53 PM ^
Yeah, that's true. That's especially far, but like you said, he also has a helicopter so that changes things a bit. He also owns a residence at the Ritz-Carlton downtown LA which is adjacent to the Staples Center.

Vallejo is also a dump.

I live in Oakland and I love it. Great town, and much improved over the last 5-10 years. Not that JH would have to live here.
November 4th, 2014 at 5:23 PM ^
for 20 years, and that it's just now getting so ethnically cleansed--like SF--that there's no life left there. Even the interesting people from Berkeley all lived in Oakland. Different strokes. A hipster crowd we certainly do not have here.
November 4th, 2014 at 5:51 PM ^
As someone whose family experienced actual ethnic cleansing, I don't think it's too appropriate to use that term to describe an American city. I don't see foreign armies sweeping through Oakland and massacring anyone who doesn't flee.
November 4th, 2014 at 2:53 PM ^
But if both you and your wife liked living in the Bay Area, then taking a job with the Raiders wouldn't be a big problem.
November 4th, 2014 at 3:52 PM ^
If he thinks the GM at SF is bad, he's descending to the 10th level of Hell in the Raiders organization.
November 4th, 2014 at 4:38 PM ^
I don't know that he thinks the GM in SF is bad, just that they don't get along. It could be mostly that the GM doesn't like JH.
November 4th, 2014 at 5:15 PM ^
That is it. Trent Baalke dislikes JH, and resents that he (Baalke) has not been given more recognition for building a roster of cast-offs and a few top draft picks into a very good team.
I could say some nasty things about Baalke, but I am not going to do that, because the fact of the matter is that I care about a thousand times more about JH as a potential Michigan coach than I do about the Niners. As long as Michigan has JH, I am perfectly happy with the world knowing what a badass genius Trent Baalke is, and he can have all the credit for whatever happens next.

yep... honestly, I don't even think it matters who our AD is, really... the only factor is whether or not Harbaugh wants to go to the Raiders or the Jets or whatever.
November 4th, 2014 at 2:41 PM ^
If SF parted ways with Harbaugh, I wonder if one term of his severance might be that if he takes another NFL job he loses whatever pay that job comes with out of his severance pay. That could be optimal for both Harbaugh and SF.
From SF's perspective, it provides an incentive to Harbaugh to look for work outside of the NFL (so he's not helping a competing franchise), and takes a successful coach out of the league. From Harbaugh's perspective, it allows him to coach at the collegiate level while (a) earning double pay and (b) saving some face.
The above is based on conjencture, hopes, and baling wire. But still ... .
November 4th, 2014 at 2:36 PM ^
Harbaugh stinks. He clearly can't coach. In fact, just fire him now and be done with in, 'kay?
Honestly we probably DON'T want them to fire him just yet, because as long as he is employed in SF, as a college program I believe we can talk to him free and clear while NFL teams would be "tampering". As soon as he is fired, he is free game to talk to anyone.
November 4th, 2014 at 2:39 PM ^
one million time this.
But agents break those rules all the time.
November 4th, 2014 at 2:39 PM ^
...if he were fired now, no NFL would talk to him until December whereas we could offer him the job in under a month
He's not even close to losing his job right now, but if he were that would be good for us

GET ME OUTTA SAN FRAN!

I'll be the one to say it. I don't think a coach would downgrade from the NFL to college, or sunny california to cold Michigan.

like hell I wont, Carlos.

Why you gotta play Debbie Downer?
November 4th, 2014 at 2:40 PM ^
unless he wants to work for the Raiders, he's probably not going to be in California next year anyway.
November 4th, 2014 at 2:49 PM ^
We're having too much fun rationalizing why Jim H should come here.
November 4th, 2014 at 2:50 PM ^
He supposedly orchestrated the trade to Cleveland last year that fell through, so maybe he doesn't care about the weather as much as everyone thinks he does.

IF you play, or coach, football then the NFL is the ultimate goal and a superbowl would be the epitome of the ultimate accomplishment in the sport of football.
there are exactly 32 head coaching jobs in the NFL. not only is it prestigious but it is limited in opportunity as well.
Personally i see no way that man who could coach in the NFL, much less about choose their destination, would ever come back to college ball... but what do I know?

Saban was terrible in the NFL, that's the only reason he went to Alabama. If Harbaugh came to Michigan it'd be unprecedented.

"I have heard some complaints from some players that he likes to try to coach with the collegiate mentality, and that's just not going to work in the NFL," Rice said at a charity event Tuesday, via Newsday.

Perhaps it was because Moss didn't get along with Jim Harbaugh? Based on Moss' comments Sunday it sure doesn't sound like he dug Harbaugh's leadership style, which he says resulted in players being treated "like college kids."

No, and that's the point. We don't want to hire the guy most desperate for the job, but the one who will do the best job, right?

In this piece, you have Rice saying:
"I have heard some complaints from some players that he likes to try to coach with the collegiate mentality, and that's just not going to work in the NFL," Rice told Newsday.com's Bob Glauber on Tuesday.
I am sure we've heard this gripe about him before when it comes to Harbaugh's interactions with NFL players as being wearing at best.

Harbaugh can be as grating as he wants to in college. A player is only around four or five years. By his senior year, he gets "leader" status and is treated much better. In other words, the players aren't around long enough for a coach like Harbaugh to lose the locker room. In addition, the players aren't old enough to bitch that they want to be "treated like adults."
College is perfect for a coach like Harbaugh.
