CBS Sports Preseason Bowl Predictions

Submitted by The Mad Hatter on

Jerry Palm, no relation to Harry, has released his preseason CFB and Bowl predictions.

Most of it is ho-hum, although he has Clemson in the playoffs against OSU.  Which seems, unlikely.  He has MSU playing not on Jan 1st, but on Dec 31st in the Peach Bowl.

Palm picks the Jan 1st Outback Bowl for Michigan, with LSU as our opponent.  Obviously, this must not be allowed to happen.

I think you're correct, and that's the rational view of things.  But it would be funny to watch a good portion of Sparty nation get butt-chapped about this, on account of their proclivity to take everything as a slight.

Put another way (read in McBain voice) - that's the joke.

Forget speculation on bowl appearance and how that might affect Dantonio. I am going to love seeing him crack well before that in Ann Arbor later this Fall.

Peach Bowl has been elevated in the bowl hierarchy, as of last season. It had two top ten teams last season (TCU and Ole Miss).

I would take the OB Bowl. 5-3 in the Conference, and 3-1 in non-Conference, gets Michigan there. That means losses to Utah or BYU (but not both), Michigan State, Ohio State, and Penn State. I think it's more likely Michigan beats one of Ohio State, Michigan State, or Penn State, and picks up a loss somewhere else (say, at Minnesota or Maryland).

Obviously that must not be allowed to happen? Why? That's, like, a great outcome for the season all things considered and would put us right in the spotlight with an extremely high profile Harbaugh/Miles bowl matchup.

Hell, I don't remember the ones they do right before the Bowl Selection Show.

Easy way to get clicks and not have to be accountable for what you say.  Like saying "we're going to have a hard winter" in August.

As I recall, Raymond James uses natural turf, so at least Les could have a light snack although I believe it is Bermuda grass (or some hybrid version) and I am not sure what the extent of Miles' taste for grass may be. That being said, if we did get to the Outback Bowl, that would be a sign of a very nice showing indeed for the first year of Harbaugh, I would say. New Year's Day Bowl? Sign me up if it indeed happens.

I would be satisfied with this outcome in year one.

There are some odd ones on there, which I guess make some sense. With Notre Dame's schedule and name recognition, I find it very hard to believe they will be in the Russel Athletic Bowl. Hard to imagine they'll be worse than 8-4 and that's if they lose every game to decent competition (GaTech, Clemson, USC and Stanford). Clemson also sticks out, but I'm not high on them this year at all. Not sure Boise gets in the "BCS" bowl but I guess there's more teams allowed now.

Who knows... Palm's guesses are exactly that right now.

I'm guessing the Rutgers game. It's only fitting. If we only lose one game this year, we're going to the playoffs. Rutgers will be the OSU/VT game for the Harboys.

Except...late in the season.

Which actually could keep us out of the playoffs.

Forget I said anything.

Especially the Harboys part.

The thing about the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl is that it's on New Years Eve. So you'd have to be in Atlanta on NYE and at the stadium, still trying to leave at midnight. I'd rather be in [Pasadena] Tampa partying with friends and family on NYE, with a game to get up for the next day.
