Can't Keep Up? 2023 Depth Chart...For Your Viewing Pleasure!
Assumptions...
1. Bell starts his career at QB.
2. Mullings goes to RB full-time and Michigan is no longer looking for a transfer "power back." It's keep Corum or bust.
3. I've included the two guys who are Michigan leans as *name* (English, Hill).
4. Michigan is going to experience a fair amount of attrition after the season national championship. The counter to this is that guys could do the Bowman and enter the portal now, but still remain with the team, but note that attrition could be NFL Draft as well.
5. Michigan is loading up for national championship run in '23 and could be preseason #1 with UGA losing key pieces.

Why is Anthony a top WR? Did he do anything this year?
December 20th, 2022 at 7:58 PM ^
Well considering he was the #4 WR this year (in terms of snaps)...and I have Bell and Johnson both moving on, leaving 2 open spots...I dunno, logic?
December 20th, 2022 at 8:31 PM ^
If Anthony is starting, things went very bad
December 21st, 2022 at 8:42 AM ^
Anthony’s potential is there and he made some big catches this year. Not understanding why everyone’s so down on the kid. He’s had a sophomore slump, but 1 game away from being that guy.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:51 PM ^
Why does everything you say have a hint of hostility attached to it? Chill.
December 21st, 2022 at 10:42 AM ^
Looking at his posting history, he emerged a month ago from a 12-year hibernation. He's been away so long that it's going to take a while to get caught up on shaking his fist at the cloud.
(edit: I'm referring to the account of 'blue_blood')
December 20th, 2022 at 8:02 PM ^
Agree. We need a wr ! Anthony couldn’t catch and had trouble running his routes imo.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:04 PM ^
A.A had that one catch he made against MSU or whoever in 2021(?) and everyone sees him as the next dominant WR. I'm hoping clemons overtakes, and we pick up a WR in the portal with experience.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:09 PM ^
Who said he's the next dominant WR? That would be Roman Wilson.
But if Anthony is #4 on the team in snaps at WR and #1 and #2 are gone...logic would tell you, he'd get at least one of the two open spots.
Has nothing to do with him being dominant and everything to do with him being the next man up. By all accounts, we're not taking a WR in the portal. CB and maybe DT if Goode and Jenkins both leave seem to be what's left. Maybe a power RB, but Mullings seems to have taken that spot.
December 20th, 2022 at 9:38 PM ^
The only hope for a “dominant receiver” among the guys who’ve taken the field for Michigan is Loveland at TE. Neither Wilson nor Anthony have given any indication they can be dominant. Based on what we’ve seen so far, competent appears to be their ceiling.
December 21st, 2022 at 7:24 AM ^
Glad you don’t run player development department, then, aren’t we?
College football is a sport where a lot of guys blossom in year 3, 4, and 5. Not every very good player is a star from the first or second year.
December 21st, 2022 at 1:32 PM ^
Yep, only chance for a "dominant" WR on the roster is perhaps Walker or Clemons down the road.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:53 PM ^
I'm not trying to dispute your broader point, but people weren't simply excited by "one catch" in the MSU game. They were excited that he had six catches, 155 yds., and 2 TDs--which included a 90+ yarder where he seemed to blow past MSU's DBS, a diving catch, a Braylon-like basketball TD over the defender, another similar "catch" over a defender where he barely came down out of bounds (Ronnie Bell style). In all, he had one of the best receiving days from a UM pass-catcher in the last few years. Given that he was a freshman playing in a rivalry game, you could see why folks were excited at the time.
But back to your point: aside from that, yes, not much.
December 20th, 2022 at 9:20 PM ^
I feel seen
December 20th, 2022 at 9:48 PM ^
You were awesome on 10/30/21, in the days leading up to your MGoBirth.
The refs and the game result... not so much.
And, while I did see you, I suspect no one saw you as much as Gus Johnson.
December 20th, 2022 at 9:54 PM ^
We see you.
December 21st, 2022 at 12:53 PM ^
Braylon didn’t become a dominant 1 receiver until his jr year. Was barely mentioned as a soph.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:07 PM ^
So he forgot how to catch after his freshman year?
What about the catch he made in traffic against Iowa?
I think you all are being a little ridiculous. He didn't get nearly as many opportunities with Ronnie Bell back.
It's wild, when Cornelius Johnson kept dropping passes, everyone was screaming for Anthony. Thread after thread. Johnson has a big game against OSU and Anthony sucks. Which is it?
If anything, it'll be Anthony, Clemons and Wilson in the slot.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:17 PM ^
Wasn't someone just saying we may land Dominic Lovett?
December 20th, 2022 at 8:54 PM ^
Your last line would be my guess. Roman played in the slot a bunch this year and Henning basically disappeared. I would bet on Anthony, Clemons, and Wilson as WR1, WR2, and Slot.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:59 PM ^
Yes the record shows he forgot how to catch after his freshman year. He may be a nice guy, but imo won’t be the starting wr next year. Will be passed.
December 20th, 2022 at 10:01 PM ^
lol what record?
Won't be passed.
December 20th, 2022 at 9:06 PM ^
I love CJ and for years (like Brian) see an NFL receiver. Just needs to work on his separation in man coverage, because his route running and speed is NFL-level.
Right now he is about a 6th round pick. Without Bell and off the success of the OSU and (hopes) CFP success, he could be the bonafide #1 next year and could be a day 1 or 2 pick. He reminds me of a junior year Corey Davis at WMU.
It just seems it’s a forgone conclusion he leaves, but I think there is a lot to entice him to stay.
December 20th, 2022 at 10:17 PM ^
He got fewer opportunities with Bell back but was still thrown to a fair bit when he was out there. Also, nobody is saying he sucks, they're simply saying that assuming he'll be the #1 receiver this year because of his time served on the team isn't a given.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:21 PM ^
I mean because the people ahead of him graduated. This is typically how it works.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:39 PM ^
Take away the MSU bomb…. What is he?
He’s going to to have stiff competition to get on the field in ‘23.
December 20th, 2022 at 9:52 PM ^
If you take away the MSU "bomb," he would still have...
... all of the actual catches he made during the MSU game.
December 20th, 2022 at 10:13 PM ^
The fact Anthony had 1 fewer catches and 75 more yards in that one game than he's had for all of 2022 would point to that maybe being a bit of an outlier in terms of overall performance.
He'll get more playing time next year with departures but much like how Ricky White had a career outlier of a performance (at the P5 level) in this rivalry we might need to treat the Anthony game as one that didn't point to an immediate impact.
December 21st, 2022 at 8:35 AM ^
*Something* happened to Andrel this season. I was beyond hyped to see him ball out this year after seeing the electric performance against State his Freshman season. He seemed to have Braylon Edwards-like ball skills and ability and a connection with JJ. This year, he was truly awful. He looked confused and hesitant out there. WHAT HAPPENED? The book isn't closed on him. He has the physical skills to get it done, but is the mental side there game in and game out? The good thing is he will have an entire new season in 2023 to make a come back.
December 20th, 2022 at 10:02 PM ^
Well he still had a 93 yard catch in run in that very game, so...
December 20th, 2022 at 11:04 PM ^
Yes Mrs. Anthony we know he's a good football player.
No we don't need to see any baby pictures.
December 21st, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
lol so lame.
Grow up.
Edit: Or don't...but at least get better jokes.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:39 PM ^
Double post. Apologies
December 20th, 2022 at 8:43 PM ^
He had his moments but my guess is Clemons and Morris get more involved in the offense next year and Anthony becomes more involved. But don't sleep on Henning also taking some catches from him.
December 20th, 2022 at 9:18 PM ^
A shit ton of cardio
December 20th, 2022 at 7:55 PM ^
You forgot Okie.
December 20th, 2022 at 7:56 PM ^
Uh, he's on there next to Harrell.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:56 PM ^
My bad, missed him as I was expecting him to be up with the other DL since he played the same position as McGregor and Moore.
December 20th, 2022 at 10:03 PM ^
He was opposite those guys.
Morris was with McGregor and Moore (Hutchinson side)...Harrell and Okie are on the Ojabo side of the line.
December 20th, 2022 at 7:59 PM ^
Too much, overload...cannot compute...cannot compute.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:21 PM ^
"Will Robinson, Will Robinson"
December 20th, 2022 at 8:01 PM ^
You think Joey Valesquez is going somewhere? He gets a lot of playing time with the baseball team...unless that changes under Tracy Smith.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:11 PM ^
I didn't say that at all...just interested to see if he returns or focuses on baseball.
That isn't a list of transfers. Guys like Keegan are on it.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:21 PM ^
Makes sense! Thank you for the clarification!
December 21st, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
Dialogue...what a concept.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:05 PM ^
Thanks for this!
December 20th, 2022 at 8:08 PM ^
Has there been any word on where Cypress or Grimes are leaning? There hasn't been a lot of chatter on which way those recruitments are going from what I've seen. Those two seem like pipe dreams at the moment, but I would be surprised if one of them ended up in this class with how hot we've been in the portal.
December 20th, 2022 at 8:12 PM ^
Pipe dreams is probably accurate. They have offers but there is a lot of competition. Not sure how much traction Michigan has with either...but I had no idea about Jack Tuttle, so I'm not ruling it out.
December 20th, 2022 at 9:03 PM ^
Cypress might be an OSU lean. They have been showing him the red carpet as of late. They’re going after him hard.
December 20th, 2022 at 10:27 PM ^
I totally get why a WR or QB would want to go to OSU, but why on earth would a DB want to go play in that defense?!
