For some reason, I suspect that Fielding Yost would straight up punch you in the nose if you called him just Field.  Aside from that, Yost had some pretty forward looking offenses in his day.  Remember the 'Point a Minute' teams?  That was Yost.  Remember the forward pass?  That was Yost's invention.

I mean it did help that Meyer inherited a highly mobile QB. Meyer’s version of the spread always seemed to keep some power concepts anyway, especially at OSU with backs like Hyde and Elliott thriving in the offense.

Point being, any good coach can adjust their schemes to fit the personnel they have in place. This isn’t Rich Rod running read-option with Nick Sheridan and Steven Threet and a 220 lb tailback.

Just a bad take on their part.

Hey it's my favorite poster! I've missed you!

I'm looking forward to high-fiving you after this season when we go 3-9 and Harbaugh gets fired, because I've learned that being right is SOOO much more important than being happy. ?

Say what you will about 11 Warriors but that site takes Michigan football seriously and posts genuine analysis about our team and what they think we are doing.   When was the last post here, front page or side board, that provided as much content on OSU's coming season and what their offense is going to look like with a new HC and new QB running the show?

BiSB will publish his "objects in the rear view mirror are closer than they appear" and we'll get a funny paragraph on OSU.   Game week both Seth and Brian will post content on OSU and maybe we'll get a few sidebar posts but between features like this one from 11 Warriors, the O Zone's "Michigan Monday" and other serious content they post on us I dont think it's a stretch to say their fucking BLOGS take the rivalry more seriously than we do.

So you came here to compliment OSU's recruiting class?  Seems like a classy thing to do...

Here's an idea, if you're truly trying to provide us with an overview of OSU's team: write a diary with facts backing you up, rather than a self-congratulatory post telling us how good you are.  Seriously - give us a good analysis of what you have coming back and who you expect to play.  Tell us the type of defense and offense you expect to run.  Tell us your fan base's realistic expectations, what you're looking for from them.  We can appreciate that...

Agreed.  I have seen more long form articles written on 11W about Michigan in the last year than I have seen on here about OSU (or any opponent) in the last decade.  Frankly, and not to denigrate anybody, but this is as good of an article about Michigan than I have seen on here in some time.

They take the rivalry more seriously than we do. From their coaches to their players to their fans. I grew up in the 90's and I could never have imagined having to go through the stretch we are against them right now. The sad thing is the number of people who continue to make excuses for it.

Their scouting of Michigan is impressive. Their writers (and some of their fans) appear to have as intimate an understanding of our team as most of us do.

But I'm not sure it's fair to criticize the mgoblog staff for not covering OSU as much as they do. For one, Michigan does have three actual rivalries. OSU has just us. So it's easier for them to focus on their one rival.

Also, and this is far more important, mgoblog has always had a narrowed focus in bringing quality, non BS content, that is clearly written by grown ass adults. 11 Warriors seems to have a lot of students who write for them, and don't really use as much discernment in selecting their content. That's why half their front page stories read like they were written by a high school student. Or why they have writers who make homophobic jokes about Michigan players like they're in middle school.

I guess I prefer not having to wade through all the junk just to find some good stuff to read, but to each their own.

Eh... kind of.  I feel like some writers on MGoBlog don't take the actual sport of college athletics as seriously as I see on other blogs.  The content about the actual play on the field is overshadowed, or cannot be separated from, the constant commentary and critique about the nature of college athletics and outrage.  So, in a sense, everything here seems tongue in cheek, as if writing "too seriously" about the sport itself is actually taboo.

Ultimately until Michigan starts recruiting on OSU's level the X and O's won't matter. Michigan's at the point now under Harbaugh where they are taking care of business against teams with lesser talent than them. When they play anyone with equal or more it usually doesn't go well.

You’ve got 241 negative points in 13 days. Aside from saying “underrated comment” or logged in to say this” you’ve made about every shit response possible.  I wonder what new account you created today to slip into when this one inevitably gets sent to Bolivia.   At your best you remind me of the quote from the Big Lebowski, you’re not wrong, your just an asshole.  With that being said your are almost always wrong, I was referencing your very best additions to the board.

Combined with having two hall of fame coaches back to back, it's the main reason they've dominated the rivalry, it's not necessarily that "Michigan isn't emphasizing the rivalry enough" it's literally that hating and striving to beat Michigan is an integral part of their program, it's as natural to them as singing Hail to the Victors is to us. Their fans live and breathe it. Michigan has to go above and beyond to match the hate, as we found out last year, having approximately equal talent isn't enough.

Hopefully now that Urban, probably the best rivalry coach of all time (he went 16-2 vs rivals at Florida, 3-1 at BG, 7-0 vs Michigan at OSU, 2-0 vs BYU and 2-0 vs USU at Utah) is gone, there's more margin for us.

Its 3 Hall of  Fame coaches.   Cooper was inducted in 2008.  That just shows it takes more than a hall of game status to win this rivalry. Cooper went out of his way to stress Michigan was just another game, no more important that any other despite the rivalry and that got him a 2-10-1 record.   Tressel made UM a focal point and had 10 minutes of every practice during the year, a tradition kept by Meyer.   While I don’t think any other coach will match Meyer’s rivalry record for a career, Day said he isn’t changing any of the focus on UM and they did allot practice for UM every day during spring ball and I’m sure it will continue into the fall.   We have to find a way to win this year at all costs.  We can’t let Day get the same confidence as the last two.

I think the issue is pretty much we never beat them. Brian doesn't do OSU UFRs unless we beat OSU. Well since 2003 that's happened once. I think not wanting to write a UFR every time we get our asses handed to us for the last 15+ years has also manifested itself as a refusal to write anything about OSU.

Why spend time writing in depth analysis about our biggest rival when we all know what's going to happen anyways? Take the emotional let down of losing to them 14/15 times and multiply that by 100 when you'd spend god knows how much time following them in the offseason, writing in depth season previews and the works. Continually building yourself up to think this is the year followed by another inevitable let down. And then every time we lose you know the comments will be hateful and pointed at everyone, including the staff here.

That's my guess on the reason why.

I've read the comments here for a long time, and the ones after the OSU game are always my favorite, mainly because the same people reverse course once spring ball hits and convince themselves that everything is "fine" and THIS is the year.

It's what fans do.

I think a lot of us who were once players in our younger days embrace the hope that is the spring because it takes us back. Over a three year stretch, my teams got our rear ends handed to us by our biggest rival, but guess what we did every off-season. We went all out and convinced ourselves that we were going to beat them next time around.

What fun is it to sit around in the spring/summer and self-loathe?

And I think that's fine, but the problem lies when people who bring objective or critical analysis to the table and get labeled trolls or downvoted because it's not what they want to hear by the same people who were bitching after the OSU game.

I'm excited for this year, mainly because UM is going to be starting nine Top 247 recruits on offense. Talent wins games in CFB.
