Buckeye Snowflakes
- Welp. Oregon was impressive despite not having their best player. They played really well.
- Stroud has a lot of learning ahead. Even though the stat sheet shows he threw for nearly 500 yards, he needs a bit more experience before he’s big-game ready. Many throws were high and missed open targets. He’s still WIP.
- Failed 4th down attempts missed out on several more potential points. Being in plus territory, if they convert on even one or two of their three failed 4th down attempts, there are likely more points on the board.
- Oregon won the line play both sides of the ball; the O-line was consistently getting push, the RB could fall forward for 4 yards. OSU’s O-line did not get the same push. This is the most disappointing part of all.
- We all knew going into the season that the back 7 on OSU’s defense was a huge question mark. But when even the few experienced players are hurt (Banks missed both games, Proctor left hurt both games, Brown didn’t play first game and played dinged up and eventually left the 2nd game), the entire back 7 is playing freshmen/inexperienced players. It will take the duration of the season for the back 7 to get quality game experience.
- There’s a lot of season ahead. This loss does not hinder aspirations for the B1G championship. This could be a learning opportunity like the VaTech game was in 2014; that team (also led by a freshman QB) gelled midseason.
- OSU has become a clone of Oklahoma. (Who else can lose despite 612 total yards of offense?)

Looks like OSUs random loss came early this year.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:27 PM ^
Something tells me it's not gonna be their only loss this year.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:30 PM ^
This wasn’t a random loss where they played well but got outplayed by a future Heisman winner in Baker Mayfield or a bad weather + Neanderthal play calling by Urban loss to Sparty.
they flat out got beat today and it was glorious.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:43 PM ^
Agreed. This was not a random loss. This was a loss against a conference-title favorite. A "random" loss would be to a random (likely unranked) team.
I also agree that this could be a multi-loss team. (gasp)
September 11th, 2021 at 5:04 PM ^
Who’s going to beat them…Indiana? Penn State?
we all know it sure as hell won’t be Michigan, so those are about the only two teams that stand a chance.
September 11th, 2021 at 6:59 PM ^
This Ohio team has shown two weeks running they are vulnerable. They should have dominated a weak Minnesota squad and did not, and were less physical than Oregon today. I am not saying they will lose, but it is possible they lose a game or two against Maryland, PSU, Sparty and UofM. If Indinia gets their crap together that could be another tough game. We’ll have to wait and see.
September 11th, 2021 at 8:33 PM ^
Upvoted for Indinia.
September 11th, 2021 at 5:17 PM ^
+1 for candor.

He got sacked by an Oregon Tight End with fresh legs and the size of a DE
September 11th, 2021 at 6:09 PM ^
Good coaching move by Cristobal and his DC to have him in their pocket for those kinds of situations.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:27 PM ^
I didn't get to see much of the game, but I was kinda surprised that OSU didn't run the ball more. Any idea why not? their average rush was something like 5 yards.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:42 PM ^
Yeah I disagree with BC's point that the OSU OLine was not good. They were fine, OSU should have kept running the ball. It felt like Day kept trying to score 14 points on a single play, throwing deep bombs to his elite WRs, constantly going for the home run ball. This anxious playcalling got especially bad in the last 5 min as Stroud had to wait for his WRs to get deep and got sacked. Running the ball and underneath throws would have gotten them more points.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:49 PM ^
Yea, I expected more underneath passes in the last couple possessions.
And I didn't say that OSU OL was not good, I said they didn't get the same push that Oregon's OL did.
September 11th, 2021 at 6:24 PM ^
Yeahhhhh…….if you could not mention “underneath passes” anymore, that would be great.
September 11th, 2021 at 6:52 PM ^
Seriously. I don’t know why they didn’t go to the underneath route over and over again. Stroud was completing those passes and they had to be getting 10 yards per play.
September 11th, 2021 at 7:45 PM ^
Don Brown was watching and thought, wtf?
September 11th, 2021 at 5:18 PM ^
When they tried to establish the run earlier, they struggled. Later, they made some gains but I think that's a misleading stat.
September 11th, 2021 at 6:02 PM ^
Agree, osu was trying to establish the run. They ran okay, not what they were accustomed to. The run game stats show the ground game was tough sledding and the Ducks D was stout. Avg 4.1 per carry not that 6+ ypc they want.
54 passing attempts tells the story…. Imo…

Ryan Day is at his core an air raid coach - when teams are in trouble, coaches stick to what they know
September 11th, 2021 at 8:11 PM ^
They got behind and threw the ball to try and catch up. Key was their inability to stop the run, which got Oregon into open receivers using play action.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:28 PM ^
Hey OSU
September 11th, 2021 at 5:43 PM ^
Ohio State just kept getting edged over and over, then over again. Honestly, their unmitigated defensive failure just warmed my heart.
September 11th, 2021 at 6:42 PM ^
Trying to sum up the OSU boards, they are blaming their DC. They said his gameplan was terrible, made no adjustments, and got no push from the d-line.
September 11th, 2021 at 6:55 PM ^
They want Coombs fired before the team is back in C-bus.
September 11th, 2021 at 7:19 PM ^
Huh? Weren’t they already IN C-bus?
September 11th, 2021 at 7:43 PM ^
Ha! Right, yes. That was a home game.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:29 PM ^
OSU looked soft, soft, soft just like last week at Minnesota. Don't want to hit, don't want to be hit and barely look like they want to be there. Olave and Garrett Wilson are still good though.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:30 PM ^
I bet Stroud will not finish the season as the starting QB.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:40 PM ^
Especially if he has to throw 50+ passes to keep them in the game week after week. His arm will be dangling from a tendon.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:45 PM ^
I hope you're wrong. How many times has the sudden appearance of a backup QB cost us The Game?
September 11th, 2021 at 4:58 PM ^
Never when OSU's defense looked this porous. They were terrible last year, so it isn't a blip.
September 11th, 2021 at 6:27 PM ^
For sure. He is not the answer.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:32 PM ^
Hey Chuck, I like you but serious question: why not post this on 11W? Let us emotionally revel in your loss today; it's much more enjoyable than objective analysis.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:42 PM ^
You should probably switch to a browser that doesn't open threads you don't want to see and force you to read them. It's not like the title and author were hidden (except, maybe, in the browser you use).
September 11th, 2021 at 4:51 PM ^
This way you can revel in the OSU loss at my expense.
Besides, I have no interest in the 11W comments section.
September 11th, 2021 at 5:19 PM ^
And, another +1 for candor
September 11th, 2021 at 5:53 PM ^
I am enjoying this. Thank you and +1.
September 11th, 2021 at 6:30 PM ^
Is that in general, or simply because of the game today?
September 11th, 2021 at 7:00 PM ^
In general...I've never once contributed anything there.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:55 PM ^
Could Mgoblog be a less terrifying place for a buckeye fan than 11Ws after a loss?
September 11th, 2021 at 5:10 PM ^
This is the truth! I looked at their game thread, they have been ready to bench their QB and fire the DC since the 1st half.
Now I need a shower for visiting that cesspool.
September 12th, 2021 at 8:41 AM ^
Smart OSU fans and regular 11W commenters don’t go to those game threads. They are a cesspool.
September 11th, 2021 at 4:35 PM ^
This is a glorious day. Also, good on you OP for posting this thread and taking your lumps.
September 11th, 2021 at 5:42 PM ^
Do you like hanging out here bc we're pretty chill or? Not being sarcastic, I'm truly curious. If I went on 11w I would get massacred.
September 11th, 2021 at 6:34 PM ^
I wandered into the OSU subreddit and was permanently banned after two comments about their run defense after the Minnesota game. No patience for outsiders and doubters, that’s for sure. I wasn’t even talking smack, just commented that they really needed to improve after Ibrahim gashed them for big gains, then his backup took over after he got hurt. I was representing with UofM flair but still.
