Bryce West Visiting Michigan this week on an Unofficial

Submitted by WoodleyIsBeast on June 19th, 2023 at 1:23 PM

Both Bryce West(https://247sports.com/player/bryce-west-46117234/) and Aaron Scott(https://247sports.com/player/aaron-scott-46129065/) will be visiting OSU together next weekend before supposedly making their college decisions, however it appears West is returning to Michigan this week.

West was in Ann Arbor two weekends ago, and an unofficial can only be a positive development. Glenville players historically go to OSU, but Michigan has been putting secondary players in the NFL at a much higher rate than OSU lately, not to mention the value of Clinkscale(OSU is on secondary coach #4 in the last 6 years).

No guarantees, but good news! Side note, I didn't realize OSU had 0 interceptions from cornerbacks in 2022 until this morning....That is wild.

If coaching is even remotely a factor, both should come to Michigan. OSU's secondary chokes on shit in every big game.

Well that's awesome news. Even if Michigan misses on Scott and West, just being in this close a race with OSU for Ohio recruits is a great sign. Getting one along with Marshall and hopefully Rudolph is just huge for momentum.

I think it's a positive development, but OSU getting both back on campus for last licks is still definitely not great. Fingers crossed, and we'll see what happens

Not holding my breath on either one but Scott seems much more likely while still being unlikely.

West coming back can't be bad though. Any time a player visits it's a good thing as long as the hosting system is humming (even if not on an official there is a LOT of "unofficial" planning and hosting).

Don't you think a few marketing interns in the Athletic Dept. could put together a great NIL pitch based on West and Scott committing together as the top two corners in OH?

"Lockin' it Down", or something like that.  They would be considered royalty by the UM fan base.

I'm trying to remember which player has that great high school coach pushing them to really consider the player development each school offers.  I think it was Scott.

Choose wisely, young men.

If there was ever a money cannon, it should be fired directly at these two. Implications on these guy, I would argue, are one of the biggest. If UM could somehow land both of these guys, OSU fanbase would be on suicide watch. Not to mention their CB room would not be good at all. The mental aspect could warrant going against the transformational approach to a transactional idea just to piss off these osu scumbags.

This is where the whole "money cannon " mentality is bs.

Imagine if a booster followed your advice and fired his/her cannon...

Said recruit then heads back to OSU and says UM booster shot their cannon...now what do you think is going to happen?

Do you REALLY  want to see money cannon warfare between UM and OSU boosters for individual recruits? Because if you do it for one you better be prepared to do it for others...as no doubt they and their rep/agents talk and exchange notes.

I don't think this is what Harbaugh has in mind when it comes to building his program based on a solid culture.

I get where you’re coming from and tend to agree on most of it. I would love to see boosters hype up the value of the two (as I still am not sold either are coming) aka shooting the cannon, then osu has to offer up more. Boosters and such at osu have to pay more by UM playing a little chicken with them. I would then imagine osu losing out on other players due to money they dropped on these two. This would in turn be talked amongst the other recruits and players at osu and starts creating friction. Either way, by instilling fear that ohios top 3 recruits might head to UM could start some psychological war with osu.

as a general rule i will never believe Michigan is getting a blue chip from Ohio over OSU until the moment it happens, but the pursuit of Scott and West certainly now qualifies as "intriguing"

According to Birms sources in the WHAC, Marshall was deemed by the staff as their #1 recruiting target for the class of '24. As such, they threw the kitchen sink at him with Day, Alford, Hartline and Frye all taking an active role in his recruitment.

This was a kick in their nuts. Silly to spin it otherwise.

This is a pretty crazy development.  This is (was?) next to a lock for OSU.  To visit again unofficially definitely means at minimum not a lock.  If Michigan can pull off one of these guys, it would be pretty big.  And i had figured it would have to be Scott.  Guess not.

Get them on campus and anything can happen. Not holding my breath. Reeling top recruits out of Ohio is nigh unheard of since Tressel showed up. Especially getting them to even consider Michigan, but hey, the fact that Michigan is in consideration at this juncture is a very encouraging sign of how things are trending.

These things are not happening but it's certainly a change for the better that we can at least think they are possible.  Kool Aid tastes way better than Absinthe, the official beverage of BPONE.

Bo used to say that every year a couple recruiting battles were ultimately decided by the winner of The Game. OSU loses in AA in November, imagine the hysteria of Buckeye fans. All the talk will be about firing Day because he can't beat Michigan. Bet both these kids are blue in the end.

It should be a pretty simple decision.  If he wants to maximize his talent and become a better defender, it is Michigan.  If he wants to be mediocre, and hope that his offense just scores so many points that the defense doesn't matter, then OSU.

Respectfully…why are you here? All OSU fans ever say is that anyone that commits to Michigan over them was not a take for OSU or they always wanted to go out of state.

Michigan turned “non-OSU takes” Paye, Uche, Hutchison and Ojabo into first and second rounders recently while OSU has turned five stars Harrison and Sawyer into busts(JTT isn’t far from it either). Rudolph may be applying logic to his decision.

I wouldn’t say JTT and Sawyer are busts. Both are probably first round draft picks in next years NFL draft. With JTT potentially going in the top 10. That’s just a terrible take from you. Also, let’s not forget the Bosa brothers and Chase Young who were high first round picks with Nick Bosa being the reigning NFL defensive player of the year. OSU has a lot of selling points to defensive line recruits. You can hate everything about that program but those are facts as much as I hate to admit it.

Exactly, Zach Harrison was only taken in the 3rd round because of his potential upside, not due to his production. Unless JTT and Sawyer randomly have huge breakout years, the only reason they will be drafted as high as they do is because "OSU 5* DE" has weight to it

Way to not even acknowledge my point bud. Here's some more information that may(or may not) sink in for you:

JTT: 4th in his class, Sawyer: 5th in his class

Nick Bosa: 8th in his class, Chase Young: 7th in his class, Joey Bosa: 37th in his class

The last three were drafted 2nd, 2nd and 3rd overall after productive careers at OSU. JTT and Sawyer have very much underperformed for their rankings. They may still go in the 1st round depending on this upcoming fall and their physical attributes, but it would be similar to Rashan Gary going 12th overall on potential.

Conversely, Michigan has taken a lot of non-5 stars and turned them into 1st-2nd round draft picks:

David Ojabo: 331st in his class, Aidan Hutchinson: 112th in his class, Kwity Paye: 481st in his class, Josh Uche: 701st in his class

Not to mention, Zack Harrison went from a 5 star to a 3rd rounder and Taron Vincent(DT) went from a 5 star to undrafted in April.

Pretty obvious that one of the schools develop non-5 stars at a better rate.
