Expected. He's the #1 247 Composite Ohio kid but the other highly rated CB - Scott - is right behind at #2. I think it comes down to UM and Oregon for Scott now that West has pulled the trigger for OSU. Could be wrong, but I just don't see both going to OSU.

Considering early signing period is many months out and when Michigan exposes OSU again in A2 in November, Mr. West might decide it is better to be a Leader and Best and flip to be a Wolverine.

Would've been a legendary pull from Ohio.  Welp, time to convince Scott that he doesn't have to go to school with West and he can be the man at Michigan.  A Michigan M---just kidding.

Living here in the Columbus area, I get a ton of OSU recruiting news and they're taking 2 CBs this class and have been recruiting 4 very hard - West, Scott, some kid from AZ, and Kobe Black who is rated higher nationally than both West and Scott and who is really liking OSU as of late. I think the next one that verbally commits locks the other two out. Just my guess.

I have not read anything about them (except on MGoBlog) but Cleveland Glenville (where West attends) is a feeder school to OSU. I can't remember the last time that a Glenville kid OSU really wanted end up at Michigan, so I always considered UM to have a better shot at Scott.

It's gone back and forth over the months, but as of recently, most have thought we had a better chance at Scott.

Most analysts believe Michigan either evened things up or took an ever so slight lead after Scott's OV last weekend. However, everyone understands this is teed up for OSU to retake the lead and/or close it out on the OV this weekend.

Just rumors, but I’ve heard that Scott doesn’t want to play with West. They are constantly mentioned together and Scott wants to make his own path. That might be complete bs, because they go on visits together. Scott did tweet “Go Blue” yesterday, but West was also talking about a return visit to Michigan and then proceeded to commit to OSU as soon as he got on their campus last night (his sister posted it yesterday). I’m guessing the return trip was just made up to throw smoke for his OSU commitment. Is Scott doing the same or is his interest legit? We’ll probably find out in the next few days. If he doesn’t commit to OSU by Wednesday, I like our chances.

You are correct. It was reported that way just before West and Scott visited. Scott was the more likely to go to OSU and we had a better shot with West.

Fake news apparently.

OSU’s secondary is underwhelming. I hope we make West regret his decision.

Disappointing but not unexpected.  And, in his defense, if you're Bryce West how can you not watch the most recent Game and think that you'll can be 50% worse then you are and still be easily the best defensive back on campus as a true frosh?

As someone in another thread said, OSU fans jubilantly celebrating the commitment of the #1 player in their state over Michigan kind of tells me the state of the rivalry right now.

2-3 years ago, this would’ve been another day at the office for OSU. The idea of Michigan even being on the radar for this kid would’ve never even registered for them, and rightfully so.

Don’t get me wrong, would much rather have him than not. He’s a very good player. But to get kids like Bryce West to be seriously considering Michigan right now….just goes to show there are definitely some cracks in OSU’s previously impenetrable instate recruiting armor.

Just got to keep winning and keep chipping away at it.

Actually, the state of OSU recruiting has really changed starting with Meyer and continuing with Day - they've went after the national recruits far more than they did with Tressel who concentrated on Ohio recruits.

They've only taken 6 to 7 recruits max out of Ohio in the last 5 to 6 years and it's kind of POd some of the Ohio players and coaches. They have a huge presence now in Georgia, Florida, Texas and California. And if you look at our recruiting, we're kind of going the same way. Regional and state recruiting only - anymore - is a thing of the past

Agree with you about the HS talent in Ohio and the Midwest taking a step back - a little - but Ohio still had the 5th most players in the NFL in 2021 (a total of 71) behind Texas, Calif, Florida and Georgia who's really surged the last few years.

I guess my previous point - probably not worded correctly - is that all the major powers HAVE to recruit nationally now (along with OSU and UM). Just the way it is now. The Tressel days in Ohio are long gone
