Assuming Henry is saved for the second game this could come down to who wants it more after 18 grueling innings.   I hope we win Friday but I have a feeling TT comes out ultra aggressive and might steal that one.   Setting up a showdown with the hottest pitcher in the country trying to accomplish the highly highly unlikely.  It’ll be a dogfight with ups and downs and will test your constitution.  But  Tommy will be the difference.

I don't know exactly how Bakich picks the pitcher for Friday. But I think to win it all, we almost need one of our 3 key starters to win on Friday. This leaves the 2nd best to pitch Monday, the 3rd best on Tuesday, and whoever pitches this Friday to pitch again on Wednesday in a 3rd game, if necessary.

Generally, you wouldn't want TT to have a second look at Kaufman in the same week.  My guess is Bakich will go with Criswell Friday (he is the most rested as well), Henry on Saturday and Kaufman out of the pen.  A win Friday sets up a rotation of Henry, Kaufman and Criswell for the final.  A loss Friday and win Saturday sets up a rotation of Kaufman, Criswell and Henry for the final, but all three may be a bit fatigued.  A Friday win would obviously put us in a much, much better position for the final.

In an ideal world we wouldn't want Kauffmann to have to go against TT again but I think that is our best shot right now because he is more likely to go deep into the game. Criswell has electric stuff but he has more control issues and I would worry about pitch counts with him.

If Kauffmann were on short rest I would think Criswell is the best option but I can't imagine taking the ball out of his hands on full rest with the way he's been pitching lately.

Honestly, I think Henry gives this team the best shot. He'll have plenty of rest, he seems to have the best control out of all these guys. I've only seen Criswell a few times, but every time I have, he has made me beyond nervous. Kauffman was starting to get very, very shaky with the late game the last time he was out. At this point, I trust Henry the most.

You throw out the kitchen sink to win one of these two games. Hell, you can tell those three dudes, you may each end up pitching 10 innings either in starting work or relief in the next two games.

Save NOTHING to get to the finals. That mentality gets teams sent home.

Worry about the finals if/when you get there.

It'll be interesting to see who Bakich chooses for this game.  Henry would be on 4 days rest, so MLB regular rest.  Kauffmann is more rested, but I'd throw Henry in Game 1 because TT hasn't seen him recently.  They just played against Kauffmann on Saturday, which could be advantage hitter.

Yes, MLB regular rest is 4 days.  Henry, who pitched on Monday, would only be on 3 days rest on Friday (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday = 3 days).  Save Henry for Saturday.

Tough call, but I think you pitch Criswell on Friday.  Kauffmann can be available for very long relief appearances if needed.  Texas Tech will almost certainly be using their game 1 starter against Michigan, Micah Dallas (7-1, 3.60 ERA).

Also important to note that during the season each of our guys gets a full 6 days rest so their bodies and routines are not conditioned for the normal MLB schedule. Not that Henry couldn't go deep on 4 days rest but it wouldn't surprise me to see him pulled earlier if he does have to start on Saturday.

Question for those with more baseball knowledge, would starting pitcher decision be at all something you could do game time based on who the other team starts?

Not sure if we are home or away for tomorrow, so perhaps moot if we are in the field first, but in general if you're at bat first, wouldn't you take into account who the other team starts?
