Brian Kelly doing Brian Kelly things

Submitted by crg on September 5th, 2022 at 7:40 AM

To the surprise of almost no one, Brian Kelly is being his typical self after the (hilarious) close loss to Florida State last night.

Said this during his post game comments:

And, within an hour or two of this comment, the kid in question promptly deleted all references to LSU from his Twitter & Instagram accounts.

And that was the *second* LSU starter to do so after the game, the first being Kayshon Boutte.

Just normal "family" things.

I had no real sense that Kelly would change when he went to LSU, but he is getting right back on the train without delay.  He is about as big a jerk and tone deaf as one could be.

Over the weekend, I got together with a good friend - who is a Georgia alum.  We talked a bit about both Michigan (QB situation) and Georgia (are they consistent enough to challenge Bama) - and, we watched the LSU game.

The  “gut” says - the Tiger administration is expecting nine wins from Kelly this year.  Ten (or more) wins next year.  And, eleven (or more) - in year three and beyond.  The SEC West is a tough division - and, I think Jimbo and Kelly will be squirming in their seats after next season.

I wonder what the SEC divisions will look like after Texas and Oklahoma join.  And, I predict it will be at least six years before Texas or Oklahoma win an SEC Division title.

Kelly being an asshole is pretty much your “Water is wet” headline.

I don’t know how I feel about the media trend of checking the social media accounts of players whenever they have a bad game.  TMI, frankly.

It feels like Kelly/LSU will be a bad marriage.  But then, I thought that multiple times during his tenure at ND and he still ended up taking them to the BCS/CFP a few times.  Somehow he has nine lives.

I loathe him. As a coach, you talk to the guy in private. If you want to send some kind of message, you play someone else in the next game. Message sent. None of this throwing people under the bus in the media right after the game because you're mad stuff. What a POS.

I feel like Brian Kelly's tenure at LSU is going to be pretty short since he's not a dynamite recruiter by SEC standards and he wasn't close to their first choice for the job.

He's also a huge asshole but this is a program who most recently employed Orgeron and Miles so apparently that's not an issue.

I'm trying to remember if his 'asshole-ness' was a known thing while at Cincinnati.  I guess I just didn't pay enough attention.  The only thing I really remember about him from those day was hoping he wouldn't go to ND.

Maybe ND brought out the asshole in him?  I could see that because...you know...fuck Notre Dame.  But yeah, what a douche-nozzle.

Throwing players under the bus is a BK specialty. But I was also interested in the kind of rhetoric he was resorting to--not a guy with a ton of obvious self-awareness. Usually you hear coaches resorting to cliches about how "we the coaches need to do better," etc. toward the end of their tenures, not at the beginning. That thing could go South fast.

Unless he does something stupid enough to get fired for cause, he's not going to ever have to worry about it.    LSU has more than 80 million reasons to put up with his nonsense.

More likely, some of the less savory "boosters" would arrange for an unfortunate "accident" in the bayou involving an airboat and hungry alligators.

What Brian Kelly said is probably not why they deleted LSU stuff from their Instagram. I can only imagine how toxic the player's DMs are. Then there are the "NIL" boosters who may not be all too happy with the player's performance and the return on their investment.

Wow, Brian Kelly being a giant douche? What a surprise. In other news, water is wet.

Leaders take on responsibility (in public, certainly) for their team's failures. This is not leadership.

I'm glad he's not our coach.

Players have power now. Coach says or does somthing they dont like they can control there situation.  This will happen everywhere now. Watch out for #12

It is quite funny to hear my acquaintances that are ND fans go from making excuses for Kelly while he was still their guy, to piling on when he becomes someone else's dirtbag

Makes you doubly glad we've got Harbaugh.  JH does not drag Michigan players in public.  Or if he has, it's been rare and he's gone to great pains to protect guys like O'Korn etc. when things went bad for them on the field.

Vintage Brian Kelly material. "Our mistake was thinking this kid isn't garbage, and I take full responsibility for that mistake, it won't happen again."

His relative success as a coach shows you though that treating people right is by no means a requirement for success. Fear, loathing and terror can all achieve remarkable results, too.
