Brian Kelly doing Brian Kelly things
To the surprise of almost no one, Brian Kelly is being his typical self after the (hilarious) close loss to Florida State last night.
Said this during his post game comments:

And, within an hour or two of this comment, the kid in question promptly deleted all references to LSU from his Twitter & Instagram accounts.

And that was the *second* LSU starter to do so after the game, the first being Kayshon Boutte.

Just normal "family" things.

I had no real sense that Kelly would change when he went to LSU, but he is getting right back on the train without delay. He is about as big a jerk and tone deaf as one could be.

Over the weekend, I got together with a good friend - who is a Georgia alum. We talked a bit about both Michigan (QB situation) and Georgia (are they consistent enough to challenge Bama) - and, we watched the LSU game.
The “gut” says - the Tiger administration is expecting nine wins from Kelly this year. Ten (or more) wins next year. And, eleven (or more) - in year three and beyond. The SEC West is a tough division - and, I think Jimbo and Kelly will be squirming in their seats after next season.
I wonder what the SEC divisions will look like after Texas and Oklahoma join. And, I predict it will be at least six years before Texas or Oklahoma win an SEC Division title.

Kelly being an asshole is pretty much your “Water is wet” headline.
I don’t know how I feel about the media trend of checking the social media accounts of players whenever they have a bad game. TMI, frankly.
September 5th, 2022 at 9:37 AM ^
It feels like Kelly/LSU will be a bad marriage. But then, I thought that multiple times during his tenure at ND and he still ended up taking them to the BCS/CFP a few times. Somehow he has nine lives.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:04 AM ^
I say this as a Catholic, the guilt you can throw on kids at ND (even if they aren't Catholic) without major repercussions isn't going to fly in Baton Rouge.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:20 AM ^
This is Brian Kelley's 9th life and then it expires.
September 5th, 2022 at 9:59 AM ^
I loathe him. As a coach, you talk to the guy in private. If you want to send some kind of message, you play someone else in the next game. Message sent. None of this throwing people under the bus in the media right after the game because you're mad stuff. What a POS.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:02 AM ^
I feel like Brian Kelly's tenure at LSU is going to be pretty short since he's not a dynamite recruiter by SEC standards and he wasn't close to their first choice for the job.
He's also a huge asshole but this is a program who most recently employed Orgeron and Miles so apparently that's not an issue.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:24 AM ^
I'm trying to remember if his 'asshole-ness' was a known thing while at Cincinnati. I guess I just didn't pay enough attention. The only thing I really remember about him from those day was hoping he wouldn't go to ND.
Maybe ND brought out the asshole in him? I could see that because...you know...fuck Notre Dame. But yeah, what a douche-nozzle.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:29 AM ^
Have a number of family that are/were faculty and donors at CMU. He was not well liked even when he was there.
September 5th, 2022 at 1:32 PM ^
I had a relative who played a year for him at Central and then for Butch Jones. He thought they were both jerks. Ended up leaving football even though he was an on field contributor. He was a really good student and is now very successful in his profession.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:11 PM ^
Pretty sure we’ve had several people with ties all the way back to his GVSU days come on this board and confirm his a-holeness
September 5th, 2022 at 10:09 AM ^
OP title scared me…Was worried Kelly killed another student.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:18 AM ^
A couple more early season losses and Kelly will be fired. If anyone thinks Scott Frost is on the hot seat, Kelly's is heating up faster.
September 5th, 2022 at 11:05 AM ^
Kelly's contract is 90% guaranteed if they fire him without cause. LSU made their bed and now they get to lie in it,
EDIT: If he manages to win a championship, the balance will be 100% guaranteed.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:32 AM ^
Brian Kelly still a POS. News at 11.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:40 AM ^
Throwing players under the bus is a BK specialty. But I was also interested in the kind of rhetoric he was resorting to--not a guy with a ton of obvious self-awareness. Usually you hear coaches resorting to cliches about how "we the coaches need to do better," etc. toward the end of their tenures, not at the beginning. That thing could go South fast.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
Let's not throw stones if we live in a glass house. There is a championship winning 4 star QB on our team that fans are driving under the bus.
September 5th, 2022 at 11:03 AM ^
Coach is not, which is what really matters.
September 5th, 2022 at 11:25 AM ^
Whut?
This is not that. I don't know why you would think this way.
September 5th, 2022 at 1:37 PM ^
This should win an award for being one of the most disingenuous MGoBoard takes out there. A head coach singling out a player and throwing his player under a bus is not the same as fans saying the more talented QB should start on a fan forum.
September 5th, 2022 at 5:07 PM ^
Well, some fans have done more than that in this instance; they have criticized Cade's play. But it's not at all the same as what Mr. Purple did. Fans criticize players all the time. It's our right as fans. It doesn't put them in a glass house throwing stones at a coach publicly calling out a player.
September 5th, 2022 at 6:22 PM ^
Can’t teach speed, can’t fix stupid. Thanks for highlighting both points simultaneously.
September 5th, 2022 at 10:57 AM ^
Players should refuse to play until he apologizes pubicly, walks to midfield in front of a full stadium, bends over, and kisses his own ass.
September 5th, 2022 at 11:05 AM ^
So where does Kelly land after LSU? Serious question, I'm actually curious.
September 5th, 2022 at 11:20 AM ^
Unless he does something stupid enough to get fired for cause, he's not going to ever have to worry about it. LSU has more than 80 million reasons to put up with his nonsense.
More likely, some of the less savory "boosters" would arrange for an unfortunate "accident" in the bayou involving an airboat and hungry alligators.
September 5th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
Purple face Brian Kelly is my favorite person to watch lose. Also, did anyone else feel like he looks like he has aged like 10 years since we last saw him?
September 5th, 2022 at 5:11 PM ^
Just curious, have you never heard of Mrs. Frost's son?
September 5th, 2022 at 11:41 AM ^
This guy wants to be Nick Saban so bad.
September 5th, 2022 at 12:26 PM ^
He will end up as Sick Naban instead.
September 5th, 2022 at 12:00 PM ^
What Brian Kelly said is probably not why they deleted LSU stuff from their Instagram. I can only imagine how toxic the player's DMs are. Then there are the "NIL" boosters who may not be all too happy with the player's performance and the return on their investment.
September 5th, 2022 at 12:01 PM ^
Never underestimate how quickly Brian Kelly will throw his players under the bus
September 5th, 2022 at 12:10 PM ^
Wow, Brian Kelly being a giant douche? What a surprise. In other news, water is wet.
Leaders take on responsibility (in public, certainly) for their team's failures. This is not leadership.
I'm glad he's not our coach.
September 5th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
It's a shitty thing to publicly dump on a kid who's already quite visibly distraught. Full stop.
September 5th, 2022 at 12:25 PM ^
Throwing his players under the bus is what Brian Kelly does. This is nothing new.
September 5th, 2022 at 12:32 PM ^
Players have power now. Coach says or does somthing they dont like they can control there situation. This will happen everywhere now. Watch out for #12
September 5th, 2022 at 1:23 PM ^
It is quite funny to hear my acquaintances that are ND fans go from making excuses for Kelly while he was still their guy, to piling on when he becomes someone else's dirtbag
September 5th, 2022 at 1:45 PM ^
Makes you doubly glad we've got Harbaugh. JH does not drag Michigan players in public. Or if he has, it's been rare and he's gone to great pains to protect guys like O'Korn etc. when things went bad for them on the field.
September 5th, 2022 at 5:14 PM ^
Have we ever had a coach who criticized a player in public? I don't recall it ever happening.
September 5th, 2022 at 1:56 PM ^
Brian Kelly is the biggest asshole. Really going to be rooting hard against LSU.
September 5th, 2022 at 2:45 PM ^
Every comment post-game should setup the team for the next game.
September 5th, 2022 at 3:21 PM ^
He's got such a history of this - documented in videos anyone can see - why in the world do recruits still want to play for this guy?
September 5th, 2022 at 4:00 PM ^
Never cared for Brian Kelly. I think the big winner here is ND unfortunately.
September 5th, 2022 at 4:38 PM ^
Vintage Brian Kelly material. "Our mistake was thinking this kid isn't garbage, and I take full responsibility for that mistake, it won't happen again."
His relative success as a coach shows you though that treating people right is by no means a requirement for success. Fear, loathing and terror can all achieve remarkable results, too.
September 5th, 2022 at 5:18 PM ^
I knew all was right in the world when I flipped the game on and heard the announcer say, "And BK is HOT!"
September 5th, 2022 at 6:23 PM ^
I kept hoping he would go put an arm around the kid and build him up. This approach, on the other hand...
September 5th, 2022 at 6:53 PM ^
Hope Jalen Brown, Jaxon Howard, and Paul Mubenga see this shit
September 5th, 2022 at 9:28 PM ^
Paul Finebaum weighs in: "LSU paid $10 mil for that??" Haha.
