Braiden McGregor Body Slams Opponent, Suffers Ankle Sprain

Not top-100 composite recruit. DO NOT WANT
xoxoxo,
(you know who)
But seriously, that should be a penalty in HS ball. Neg away.
EDIT: Upon reading further, I see that it was indeed penalized.

Not a big fan of a play like that. It doesn’t make him a dirty player, but he’s going against a smaller guy trying to protect a ball with at least one arm. I dunno I just never feel like body slams are that impressive.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:28 PM ^
Agreed. That's not a football play. That kid could have been seriously hurt. Having said that, can't wait till he's wearing maize and blue.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:34 PM ^
Hopefully he hears from his coaches (and future coaches) that that was a cheap shot. No need to play like a spartan.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:39 PM ^
Comparing the sizes of the two players, if you were the ball carrier, would your rather get picked up and slammed to the ground or had McGregor hit you at full speed? The body slam looks bad but I bet it generates a lot less force than two players running into each other at full speed.
August 30th, 2019 at 4:02 PM ^
After watching that over about 10 times, I would rather be hit than be slammed into the ground like that. That's just me though.
August 30th, 2019 at 4:20 PM ^
That's fair. It was obviously deserving of the flag and is hopefully a learning moment for the young man.
August 30th, 2019 at 4:30 PM ^
I can totally see a crying James Van Der Beek making this comment.
August 30th, 2019 at 4:08 PM ^
He was on the line of scrimmage, it wasn't like he was coming from the safety position.
August 30th, 2019 at 4:23 PM ^
This came from the line too...
August 30th, 2019 at 4:02 PM ^
Oh please....If he was a commit to any rival school you would have been bemoaning the fact he was a dirty player and it's a good thing he wasn't coming to Michigan, but because he plays for Michigan its ok.
August 30th, 2019 at 4:07 PM ^
Calm down, dude. It's Friday.
August 30th, 2019 at 4:17 PM ^
The last Friday before Michigan football at that!
August 30th, 2019 at 4:24 PM ^
Well, it is our right as fans to be bias.
August 30th, 2019 at 4:26 PM ^
So true.
+2. One for a solid point and another to redeem the point I negged you for.
August 30th, 2019 at 4:30 PM ^
Anybody watch the two schools from Texas on ESPN last night? A little different football played down there than what was played yesterday in Michigan. Goodness. it makes you wonder what the heck other high schools are doing. This bodyslam kid would just be another big kid on a team loaded with big kids.
August 30th, 2019 at 7:11 PM ^
Hurting yourself on a borderline dirty play is a Sparty thing to do. He’s just a kid though. The coaches will sort him out.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:23 PM ^
This title is ambiguous as to whose ankle suffered injury - Braiden's or his opponent's.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:26 PM ^
The article straightens this out. It's McGregor.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:24 PM ^
Sweet mother of God.
Can he reclassify and start Saturday????
August 30th, 2019 at 10:29 PM ^
I just don't understand this type of response. Any kid can make an illegal body slam tackle, it wasn't impressive at all, it was a penalty that cost his team.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:26 PM ^
McGregor Clegane.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:27 PM ^
August 30th, 2019 at 4:25 PM ^
That was ridiculous not a fan of that at all
August 30th, 2019 at 5:20 PM ^
Yeah, I cringed. Looked like when you pick up an almost empty gallon of milk thinking it's full.
August 30th, 2019 at 5:24 PM ^
I mean, I get that it was deserving of a penalty, but its not like he took a cheap shot or launched himself into the kids head or threw a blind side block on him. He wrapped up the guy and if he drives through and goes to ground with him its a perfectly legal tackle.
August 30th, 2019 at 6:50 PM ^
That looked like me picking up my 4 year old. I can put my 4 year old down without hurting him easily. Unnecessary, dirty play that makes him look like an asshole.
August 30th, 2019 at 8:57 PM ^
"...it's not like he took a cheap shot..."
So wrapping up a guy and intentionally lifting him over your head, then slamming him down flat on his back with your full force, is not a cheap shot?
He deserved every inch of that flag... Hopefully, his coaches are shitting all over him for that.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:40 PM ^
Captain insano shows no mercy.
Really interested to see what he does against Romeo next week. His school is in the 3rd tier of the Macomb Conference and Romeo is in the 1st tier and won the D1 state title a couple years ago.
Of course not that that means anything since Romeo can't produce anything.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:49 PM ^
Say whut??
August 30th, 2019 at 4:09 PM ^
He said. What he said.
August 30th, 2019 at 4:24 PM ^
No politics, I know, but I think we can all agree Mr. Early Morning Stoned Pimp is a true American Hero, no?
August 30th, 2019 at 3:54 PM ^
A flag should have been thrown for the OC for making a call to run a jet swap towards McGregor.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:55 PM ^
I'm sure he'll be a fine player for Michigan.
That was unnecessarily aggressive for high school though.
August 30th, 2019 at 3:58 PM ^
Eh....I got no problem with the tackle.
August 30th, 2019 at 4:30 PM ^
I could never find the video but I remember Terrence Taylor doing that to a NW runningback in 2008 when I earned my Fandom Badge of Courage.
The only bright spot of that otherwise miserable game.
August 30th, 2019 at 5:09 PM ^
Scraping ice from my car afterwards was the BEST part of that game.....
August 30th, 2019 at 4:31 PM ^
If I was that small WR running the jet sweep, I much rather be picked up and dropped like that than being full on hit and having McGregor land on me. Dude looks like a man amongst boys on that field.
August 30th, 2019 at 5:51 PM ^
What an idiot
August 30th, 2019 at 6:09 PM ^
I think the sprained ankle is more of a story instead of the tackle, but maybe it's because I'm still worried we can't have nice things.
August 30th, 2019 at 8:30 PM ^
Love the aggression. To me it's the same as Rumler burying his mark after he's already out of the play. I'll take that all day, every day.
August 30th, 2019 at 9:29 PM ^
Looks like a good tackle to me, when did people get so sensitive
August 30th, 2019 at 9:43 PM ^
It's not a great look and flagging it seems worth doing to prevent injury, but I don't think his intent was to hurt the guy. Not a slam as much as it was a throw. Maybe because he's so tall and many high school backs are under 5-6, he's getting into bad tackling habits.
August 30th, 2019 at 10:49 PM ^
Was a good play.
Would have anybody objected if he did that to Curtis Samuel a few years ago...
August 31st, 2019 at 1:42 AM ^
Am I the only one who read that as Connor McGregor and was confused?
August 31st, 2019 at 7:55 AM ^
100% guarantee he won’t be doing that at Michigan. He will find out the competition is just a wee bit bigger, stronger, and faster. Hot dog play that could have broke that kids neck.
