This is all over the twitters. Coach Hoke is looking like half the man he once was. Good job, Coach but photo could use more pointing.

That's impressive for a guy in his 60s. Wonder what his secret is?

I had an uncle who was close to 300 most of his life then went on a super strict no sugar diet and now looks like this. I know it works, but I just can't avoid stress eating and drinking.

My cardiologist would argue that any white carb, white rice, potatoes, wheat products..., are bad carbs.

In a follow up visit immediately after my LAD blockage was successfully reduced, I mentioned to my Cardiologist that the hospital menu included "Heart Healthy" baked potato.  At which my doctor chuckled saying, no such thing.

Your body doesn't actually need carbs. They are not an essential nutrient. Your body will make as much sugar as it needs through gluconeogenesis, using fat, protein, lactic acid, etc.

I'm not saying you shouldn't ever eat carbs. I'm just saying the body doesn't REQUIRE us to consume carbs in order to function.

In order to be healthy your body absolutely does need carbs, though it's better to get complex carbohydrates from whole grains and fruits and vegetables than simple carbohydrates from sugar or fruit juice. There are also many other nutrients, such as essential fatty acids, vitamins and fiber found in complex carbohydrates that your body needs access to in order to be healthy., although yes, you are correct that your body will convert fat and protein to energy in order to function. Its just not as efficient at doing that.

Good for you man! I went lower carb a year ago and lost 20lbs with almost no effort. The main thing for me was switching from beer and wine to Vodka and cutting out chips and stuff. I snack on peanuts, almonds now. Distilled spirits contain no carbs.

Intermittent fasting is the new thing, and it’s worked for me.  Eat whatever the heck you want, just do it in a window of 8-hours or less.  It’s hard at first, but it gets easier; much easier than NEVER eating treats or never drinking beer.  Eventually, you’ll be confident enough to incorporate some exercise in there and have a few “super fast” days, when your window is 4 hours or less.

I’ve lost plenty of weight, and feel no stress about this lifestyle.

Glad to hear it's working. I don't doubt that it is effective for some people, like many weight loss strategies, but the first decent randomized trial of intermittent fasting was just published and it didn't have a significant effect.

I'm into intermittent fasting 22/2 or OMAD (one meal a day) and low carb/high fat...Two years running to date along with 2 years of blood work..Believe what you want, but for me it has changed my life (probably saved it)..I see it in results from my blood work....My body is fat adapted so I no longer have hunger cravings...it's just a life style for me that has become easy to follow and at age 76 I take only medication for thyroid.....also walk 6-7 miles every day...

Yeah, nuts are tricky. Some are better than others for carb content, but I consider nuts a treat and not part of what i normally consider eating.  Pretty much keep the fridge stocked with eggs, pickles of all kinds, cured meats, cheeses, mustards, Japanese mayo, and veggies. Plenty of canned tuna and sardines on the shelf and a deep freezer full of all kinds of meat and seafood.  With so much other stuff available, it's usually pretty easy to grab something filling that fits the bill.  This can get hard when the kids have chips, rice, and candy/chocolate in the house.
