Current HC Rocky Long is stepping down with Hoke expected to take over.

Time is a flat circle.

Interesting. Hoke turned it around, but only was there two years. Rocky Long is the one who turned SDSU into a Mountain West power the last decade, winning a few titles; let's see if Hoke can sustain the success of his former assistant.

Timing is interesting. A bit earlier in the cycle and SDSU could've gotten a hot up-and-comer P5 assistant.

Yeah, but you get a hot up and comer and you risk losing him in 2 to 4 years.

I don't think Hoke is on any P5 short lists so SDSU is probably banking on having him around for a while which is probably good for a G5 program.  Too often when G5 teams hire the hot up and comer they have a meteoric rise followed by a crash down to earth once he leaves for a bigger program.

I wonder if SDSU even wants a "hot up-and-comer P5 assistant", though.

They went that direction in 2006-2008 with Chuck Long.  That was an absolute disaster: an average of 3 wins a year that was capped by a 70-7 (!!!) loss to New Mexico.

I think they are still hurt by that experience.

Rocky Long in 2011 - and Hoke again here in 2020 - are/were safe choices.  An established coach, who's a low risk to leave for somewhere else, and is low risk to completely flame out like Chuck Long.

If I were a SDSU fan, nothing against Hoke, but I'd be a little annoyed by this safe choice.  In reality, SDSU should be a bit more than they are - they should be at Boise State's level every single year instead of 8-4 every year.  But it's unlikely to be a disaster either.

God I hope he does well there.  SDSU will now become my unofficial fourth 2nd University to cheer for (teams playing MSU, OSU & ND are the others) each Saturday.

Brady, by all accounts was one hell of a nice guy who got his dream job and fucked it up.  Sometimes I wonder how he would've done had the great Dave Brandon not insisted on sitting in on the Sunday film sessions (God only knows what he "suggested" in those) or if Denard's elbow hadnt gotten destroyed at Nebraska.

We make fun of his clapping and aversion to headsets but give the man his due in one area.  He had the team ready to GO against OSU each year he was there.  His record may have only been 1-3 but we played them evenly to the very end.  If not for a couple of bad breaks in 2012 and the infamous 2 point conversion in 2013 Brady would've gone 3-1 which is one hell of a lot better than we've done since.

Good luck Brady.  You'll always be a Michigan man and this Michigan man will be rooting for you.

1.  If not for a terrible spot in 2016 and John O'Korn in 2017, Harbaugh would have two wins against OSU.  Unfortunately, that's not how it works.

2.  Hoke apologized to MSU for the stupid Joe Bolden tent-stake incident and played a huge role in elevating Dantonio to deity status in East Lansing.

3.  Hoke forgot that recruiting quarterbacks was important.

I'm sure he was a hell of a nice guy.  He was also totally in over his head--regardless of Brandon's interference and Denard's elbow--and did quite a bit to embarrass the University of Michigan.

We could go 16-0, every year forward, and your posts would never change.

Hoke lack of development and recruiting created O’Korn

Hoke won 11 games with Rich’s guys.

You saw 9/11 coming.

Bobby Riggs fixed the match.

JFK got in the wrong limo.

Amelia had a bad map.

Dan Jansen needs to stop falling down.

Nancy Kerrigan should’ve called in sick.

And stuff like that...

I tend to agree with you on your point here and he did have his teams show up in games it looked like we had no chance vs OSU so this isn't meant to be a dick but it's the internet so....punt/counterpunt

He almost lost his 1 win vs a shit OSU team so he easily could have been 0-4.  If not for a slight overthrow by Braxton we could have had another tragically bad loss to rank up there with The Snap Horror and Hail Mary games.

As a Harbaugh truther I can point out the 16 and 17 games in which he easily could have won and he would have been 2-3 and much better than anything we have had in the last decade.
