Submitted by mi93 on October 27th, 2023 at 12:04 AM

It’s been a helluva week. Thanks to the blog (and the mods) for this place and for thoughtfully tracking the story while managing and monitoring SO many posts.

Thanks to everyone for humor and commiserating.

Thanks to those remembering brother Hoek and fam… a reminder that we’re not just here for M, but for each other in whatever ways we can be.

It’s great to be a Michigan Wolverine! Have a BANG-tastic Friday!

Two reasons in one on your POSBANG title? Listen here, rookie...

But ok... Go ahead and steal the  one thing that keeps me going all week. I'm not offended....

Let us celebrate the comprehensive history of cheating and rules changes

Spying and Sideline Incidents:

1. Harvard vs. Yale (1900) - Often considered one of the earliest instances of spying in college football. Harvard fans were accused of using telescopes to spy on Yale's practices. Harvard survived, so will we (talk about comparing telescopes to Apples here)

2. Notre Dame vs. Michigan (1909) - Michigan coach Fielding H. Yost accused Notre Dame of using spies to watch their practices before their game, leading to tensions between the two schools. These tensions have since gone away entirely. No hate for/from NDU for Michigan.

3. The Origin of "Ohio State" vs. Michigan Spying Accusations - The fierce rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan has seen numerous spying allegations throughout the years, contributing to the intensity of "The Game." - AKA everything leading up to today, include RyanDay AKA Ryan-JFM-once-a-Day.

4. Penn State's "Victory" Lights (1982) - Penn State was accused of using hidden signals with stadium lights to communicate with their players during a game against Miami. To be fair, Penn State has kept this tradition alive, they cut the word "victory" from the title and pasted the color White everywhere.

5. Syracuse vs. Penn State (1998) - Syracuse coach Paul Pasqualoni accused Penn State of spying on their practices, leading to controversy and a breakdown in relations. Et tu Paterno?

Rule Changes:

1. The "Hurry-Up Offense" Rule (2008) - Prompted by a 2007 game between Arkansas and Florida, where Arkansas used an unusual hurry-up offense that caught the defense off-guard. This led to the "2007 Arkansas Formation Rule," making it illegal to have more than one player in the offensive backfield.

2. The Creation of Instant Replay (2005) - The infamous "Fifth Down Game" between Colorado and Missouri in 1990, where Colorado was erroneously given an extra down, contributed to the introduction of instant replay in college football to prevent similar errors.

3. The Fumble Out of Bounds Rule (2002) - A controversial call in the 1998 game between Wisconsin and Michigan led to a rule change in 2002, allowing only the fumbling player or a teammate to recover a fumble out of bounds.

4. 2024...tbc. Definitely going to be monumental, or else why have we wasted so much of our time, energy, and passion with this scandal? I mean if this doesn't result in a Chris Nolan biopic with (Kevin Costner?) As Harbaugh, I will fume with anger. Who can play Warde, this NCAA board member, Ryan Day, and our very own spy?

For #4 I envision Wilford Brimley playing every character in the film.  Within a few months you'll be able to generate the entire film in about 20 minutes using ChatGPT or Dall-e.  I'd also suggest creating an alternate version with Peter Sellers.

As good as my memory is, I don’t remember a fumble out of bounds against Wisconsin in 1998. My main memories of that game were…

1. Exposing Wisconsin for the frauds they were.

2. Aaron Shae taking out 3 Badger defenders so A-Train could walk into the end zone untouched.

3. Jay Feely nailing a long field goal despite slipping to the ground on the kick.

4.  Ron Dayne running for a mere 53 yards all day and constantly going the wrong way on option plays.  He later said the Big House crowd noise kept messing him up.

Even Lloyd Carr, who was always deadpan in his emotions on the sideline, was all smiles throughout the game.

Yes. Thank you. I am undergoing my own battle. I was doing fine with outpatient chemo and radiation but really  starting to feel the effects last week and just before I left the facility told to go to ER. My kidneys were failing. That is now under control but I'm still in ICU unable to digest anything for over a week. The team, the team of doctors were trying everything. Finally one doc suggested  tincture of opium. That seems to be working. Thanks be to God and my team of physicians!

It's too small a dose I think. I'm still not digesting anything, but it's slowing things down.  I'm supposed to get lab results today.. The chemo seems to be the issue. Not had any in over a week. The goal is to get me to some semblance of normal health so I can finish my last 8 sessions of chemo and radiation . Anyway, they've got me on a ton of drugs and I'm in good spirits.

Moon is in the seventh house with Harbaugh ascendant. My guess is that the team will feed on this.

The Udvar-Hazy museum has a spectacular example of a Sopwith Camel; Snoopy would be happy with it. Check out the cockpit panorama and imagine flying off to war in a 930 pound airplane while sitting in a rattan seat sans parachute.

Just for a minute let's imagine that Wisconsin beats Ohio State.  With a backup quarterback.  Would they leave Ryan Day on the tarmac in Madison, fired before he even had a chance to lose to Michigan for a third year in a row?

Thanks for putting this up. Amid my frustration with various writers, ideas, posts, I can forget to be grateful this place is here. Amen to your observations.

i know this will be fleeting, but my points just hit 1983, the year i started as a freshman in Ann Arbor.  and yes - 'long time listener, infrequent caller', but this is the best place to get the real info - certainly not Xitter.
