Beat UCLA....Men's Bball hosts UCLA thread

We know this at this point...but our new favorite saying rings true, it's getting late early. A sort of must win on the hardwood this afternoon! Kenpom has us a 3 point favorite. We'll see about that. As it often does with our Beilein coached teams if we can just make the open looks (3s) we can take this thing. Also of preference, not going stagnant like we did Monday night in the 2nd half. Go Blue.

MAAR? He’s a total zero on offense right now. Honesty, best 5 is probably Brooks, Poole, Matthews, Wagner, Teske. Robinson and MAAR are basically 0 for their last 50 from the field. Z is fine on defense but another zero on offense. Livers looks lost. Simmons is useless. We just don’t have the raw talent. I applaud Beilein for staying away from the muck, but this is the result. Sometimes they’ll hit the jackpot and go on an awesome two year run. Most of the time they’ll be a 7-11 seed and very scary in March.

Teske isn't ready for starting minutes. He hasn't shown consistency on offense or defense. I think his offense needs to be respectable before considering him. Matthews, I'd be fine with. I just feel like Livers hustles to the ball more on defense. His offense will come as time goes.

Awful end of 1st half on that rebound. Get it,race the length of the court, and chuck up a wild shot. Never mind trying to get something decent off.

I counted 35 1/2 possessions, with Michigan getting the extra partial possession at the end. Michigan getting 0.75 ppp on offense and only down by three points thanks to UCLA’s turnovers. Defensive rebounding has been awful, even by Michigan standards — looks like UCLA is cleaning up 42% of their misses, and Michigan’s only collecting 9% of their own. Honestly, Michigan is lucky that they’re not down by 15, especially at this relatively fast pace. UCLA’s shooting is almost as bad as Michigan’s, and because they threw so many possessions away, Michigan actually has more shot equivalents despite the rebounding numbers. Michigan is going to need a much stronger effort in the second half if they want a chance to win. I don’t expect them to hold UCLA to 0.86 ppp in the second half; if they keep them under 1.1, I’ll be pleasantly surprised. So I think Michigan needs about 1.2 ppp the rest of the way to win the game. It’s within the realm of possibility if some shots start to fall, but I can’t pretend to be particularly confident.

You’re quite correct :-) — and, actually, if Michigan were shooting 3s at their true talent level today (based on history, not this season), they’d be in the lead. Maybe I’m coming around to your way of thinking. ;). (Or maybe I’m looking at the ease with which UCLA tore up Michigan’s interior defense when they weren’t busy traveling or pushing off. :-) It’s not like we haven’t seen this team have good luck for 19 minutes. Just last Tuesday, as I recall. :)

As the old saying goes...This team couldn't hit water if it fell out of the boat.  What's our FG % since we had 43 points at OSU?  It's somewhere in the 20s.  THAT is effing embarrassing!!!

We are going to get blown out. We should've been up by 15 at half with all of the Bruin turnovers and terrible 3 point shooting.

Our offense is wretched. Not sure what broke at halftime in Columbus, but it's still broken.

This team is so garb. 4/5 starters are upperclassmen and two may even go pro after the year and they can't do shit on offense. Been this way the entire season except for the GVSU and UC Riverside games. MAAR has regressed big time this year (hey, 1-9 shooter, stop chucking the ball!), Moe tries to do too much, Matthews has pretty much been invisible the last few games, and Robinson has only hurt the team with his presence on the court. NIT season at best. Getting killed by a team we should be better than once again. Just unbelievable.
