This will be your thread for hot takes and snowflakes regarding the overall coaching performance against Army.

Just seemed to go into the same little shell we do year in, year out. Looked like Harbaugh called the plays on several of those last series where we ran, ran, threw?

I'm right there with you as well. I'm off the Harbaugh wagon. At the beginning of the second overtime you can see Jim getting the guys ready for the next series with a play chart.... run, run, pass, field goal... but they weren't even creative runs. Up the middle, slow developing motion up the middle then, slow developing pass. It's too predictable. Where were all the quick slants that were working? We just abandoned anything that works, yet we will beat a dead horse with plays that don't.

Keep pumping the well, might have been Harbaugh's story that Drevno narrated.

I’m not quite ready to get off the Harbaugh wagon, but for the first time since he became our coach, I believe he could possibly get fired. Not now or even this year, but someday it is possible. To answer the question of who else would you get to be our coach? Lots of people. Week in and week out I see teams with significantly less talent play better offensively than we do. - Harbaugh has three ten win seasons...we play 13 games every year and we have superior talent in 12 of those 13 games. 10 wins should be the floor with the rosters we’ve had.

I’m not giving up yet, but I’m getting closer each game.

I'm with you.  I have defended JH through thick and thin.  But not kicking a field goal there in a game like this was simply bush league.  He's thinking like a player and not like a coach.  Or else he is more concerned with making a point to his players through failure than in actually winning the game.  There is no question what the right call was there, and Harbaugh did not make it.

this was the unforgiveable sin, IMO. Last week was the spike, this week not kicking the chip shot FG for the lead in the 4th Qtr on 4th and 2.

I think everyone needs to be reevaluating the amount of fucking brains this coaching staff has, b/c they are 0/2 in 2019 from a game mgmnt perspective and didn't look that great last year either.

I'm not an "inexcusable" guy when it comes to play calling, scheme, etc. but these last 2 weeks have been evidence that these caoches have million dollar contracts in spite of having 10 cent heads

In the press conference, Harbaugh said that going for it was what the analytics said.  But that's why we have coaches who can see what's going on in the game.  It wasn't just a field position thing, it was a game flow thing.  If we kick that field goal, there was about a 90% chance we would win, since Army wasn't likely to score.

the math only accounts for down, distance and field position.

Not what QTR it is and who your playing: 10mins to go in the game, 4th and 2, tie game. You're playing Army which means 1) they will only get one more possession and 2) so will you, if you're lucky. Kick for the lead and play D to keep them out of the EZ. Your defense has done that all game against this team vs long fields.

Getting the 1st down there doesn't gaurentee a TD, nor does it gaurentee Army won't get the ball back. You're going to play defense against a long field with 9-10 mins to play either way. At least to that with a fucking 3 point lead, man.

Play calling for the most part sucked, unless the game plan was "Pull a Borges and just run up the middle all the time", in which case they nailed it.

Why do we not have a goalline package?

Back to normal Michigan football.  Run,  run,  run,  run.  Atleast pull the ball out and let the qb run.  The zone read for qb was there all day.

What coaching? I thought they were preparing for this all fucking summer and they got blasted and out coached even though Army does the same shit over and over again. Defensive scheme was retarded and no real adjustments made. Offense keeps running up the middle against 8 men. Coaching, what coaching?

Can't remember a game where we were more outcoached all the way around.  Should have kicked fg on 4 & 3 in fourth quarter for first lead of game, and should have passed more.  Army could not cover our receivers without holding.

It's apparently obvious that Gattis does not have full control this offense and he never will. Don't be surprised if he leaves at the end of the year and that's just a guess on my part

Why is it obvious?  How do you know what kind of game Gattis calls when he is given no constraints whatsoever?

Just because he tweets #SpeedInSpace everytime he gets his cell phone out doesn't mean anything.  It could be an accurate reflection of his offensive philosphy; it could just as easily be an advertising slogan aimed at recruits.  And even if he genuinely believes it, you don't have any basis for guessing how he intends to accomplish it.  Maybe running up the middle consistently to get WRs wide-open for long touchdowns on play-action passes is his definition of #SpeedInSpace.

Or maybe the Offensive Tackle situation is what has been driving the frustrating, conservative, unimaginative playcalling since Harbaugh arrived, and Gattis has figured out that it's still such a problem that he's making similar playcalls because it's the only way to keep the QB from getting killed.

If we had an example of what style offense Gattis produced when he was in charge of the scheme, the game planning, and the play-calling, then we could compare that to what we're seeing now, and come up with a semi-informed opinion of whether Harbaugh is meddling.  But we don't.  It appears you're comparing what you saw today to what your imagination conjured up upon seeing #SpeedInSpace and reading some MGoBlog articles focusing on a few plays that have some new wrinkles, to arrive at the conclusion that Gattis' has his hands tied; I don't see how that's justified.

The offense looked nothing like any offense at any school Gattis has ever coached at, but it looks a helluva lot like last year’s Pep/Warriner Frankenstein monstrosity, so use old Occam to figure out why it looked that way.

Harbaugh won’t let manball go, and Michigan will never be more than a 9-10 win team until he does. 9-10 wins is a lot better than what Michigan was in the years between Lloyd and him, but that’s not what a lot of people hoped for when he was hired. It’s just a downer.

You hope the passivity was because of Shea's health or something.  Because that was a very Lloyd game plan.  WE WILL RUN THE BALL UP THE MIDDLE.  MISDIRECTION IS FOR COMMUNISTS!

14 days to get ready for a real team.

Shea was still 19 of 29 for 201 yards surprisingly.

I feel like the only explanation besides Harbaugh is on his way to a pink slip

Is that Shea was more injured than we thought and in a lot of pain and Mccaffrey is just trash and not able to be relied on at all. so they had to build the offense around the only thing they had with Shea unable to throw the bomb. and hope that they would win easily and then give Shea 14 days for him and DJP to both be back?

or the more realistic Harbaugh took the keys from Gattis. Who is going to leave after the season because Harb is a liar and we are on our way to an 8-4 season in which people make more excuses for Harbaugh.

I’m curious as to why we continued to run HB power when it wasn’t working very well. Today was the most frustrated I’ve ever been at a coaching staff as long as I can remember. The runs up the middle on 4th down made me completely lose faith in this “speed in space” nonsense.

1. After ball security was a huge problem, pay calling was to not lose instead of to win.

2. The one good thing about this offense from last year, goal line/short distance formations/calls have been eliminated. They need to be brought back in some situations.
