Indiana at 24! They do have Penn State this week though.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:32 PM ^
Indiana being ranked - means they are no longer the Power 5 team with the longest drought in terms of an AP Top 25 appearance.
IU's first AP Top 25 appearance since September 20, 1994.
That title now goes further north in the Hoosier State. To Purdue. Purdue hasn't been in the AP Top 25 since September 30, 2007.

Good stats.
You know a program stinks when Kansas was ranked more recently ...
November 10th, 2019 at 5:19 PM ^
99% sure we were the ones who beat #25 Purdue. I still remember being in the student section and Henne threw a nice corner route to Arrington(?) in the southwest corner of the (south) endzone...or maybe my memory is starting to fail me
November 10th, 2019 at 6:32 PM ^
Looks like Ohio State beat Purdue the week prior to U-M ... OSU's win (an ABC Prime-Time game) knocked Purdue out of the rankings.

November 10th, 2019 at 7:01 PM ^
I do remember that. Purdue was unbeaten at 5-0 when they were prepping to host OSU for their "national championship game". Then both OSU & UM kicked them in the teeth in consecutive weeks, and we haven't heard from them since (in the rankings).
November 10th, 2019 at 10:58 PM ^
Yeah, "in the rankings". We certainly heard from Purdue last season.............
November 11th, 2019 at 1:35 PM ^
Yeah, also Tressel inexplicably lost there the next time he went to W. Lafayette, back when Ryan Kerrigan was the Gaz of the B1G.
November 10th, 2019 at 4:45 PM ^
further validation that we do have one of the harder SOS's in the country.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:26 PM ^
Michigan was ahead of Wisconsin in the AP and coaches poll last week too
November 10th, 2019 at 3:35 PM ^
And also in the post in the thread below...by the same OP.
C’mon man.
November 10th, 2019 at 3:51 PM ^
cmon what
November 10th, 2019 at 3:57 PM ^
Why did you call out Wisconsin being below in one thread but not the other?
November 10th, 2019 at 5:19 PM ^
Call out?
Relax man, relax.
November 10th, 2019 at 7:15 PM ^
I feel like you’re missing the point.
November 10th, 2019 at 10:46 PM ^
I feel like you're too tightly wound.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:26 PM ^
Current form matters
November 10th, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
They were ahead of Wisconsin in the AP last week
November 10th, 2019 at 2:31 PM ^
Wisconsin had looked pretty shaky lately, while UM has looked much better.
November 10th, 2019 at 5:22 PM ^
It would be interesting if we had NFL style scheduling and we got Wisconsin at home now. Two different teams right now
November 10th, 2019 at 2:35 PM ^
Notre Dame at 16 tho (inserts laughter emojis)
November 11th, 2019 at 8:35 AM ^
Just don't understand the love for ND. I've watched them a few times this year and they're not a top 15 to 20 team. Very "shaky" at best.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:41 PM ^
Wonder when's the last time Minny was in Top 10.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:44 PM ^
1961 I’m guessing or prior to the AP poll existing lol.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:56 PM ^
According to this LINK, they finished the 1962 season at #10 and that was more or less it after finishing at #1 and #6 in the two years prior to that. They finished at #18 in 1998 and #20 in 2003.
November 10th, 2019 at 4:33 PM ^
Nice. Think my parents woulda been in middle school.
November 10th, 2019 at 4:25 PM ^
1962. The current AP era is considered 1936 to present. Minnesota has 4 national championships...1936, 1940, 1941 and 1960.
November 10th, 2019 at 5:15 PM ^
They'll get another in about 75 years when the west runs out of water and the south is uninhabitable.
November 11th, 2019 at 1:15 PM ^
The West is already out of water and stealing from Lake Meade...
The South IS uninhabitable for most people with a moral compass and any personal constitution.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:42 PM ^
More reasoning to never schedule hard out of conference teams...
November 10th, 2019 at 4:58 PM ^
MI hasn’t lost in non- Conf this year. Not that you specifically said they did. But the ND win has helped their bowl outlook (as they won’t win the B1G).
November 10th, 2019 at 5:19 PM ^
And what if Michigan won all of its games but then lost to a 10-1 OSU team? That W over Notre Dame might solidify a claim to the playoff.
I'm not saying a strong non-conference schedule is always a good thing, but I am saying that it's only with hindsight that you know whether it helps or hurts.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:42 PM ^
That was early season turnover-prone Michigan. We are a different team today than we were back then. Wiscy lost to Illinois and was completely shelled by OSU. These ranking are justified.
November 10th, 2019 at 3:53 PM ^
Ohio St v Wisconsin was not a complete shelling. It was very close until about 1/2 way through the 3rd.
November 11th, 2019 at 2:20 PM ^
Ummm, it was 38-7. OSU outgained Wisky 431-191. 6 YPP to 3.75 YPP.
That's a shelling.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:44 PM ^
When you lose to Illinois, that tends to happen
November 10th, 2019 at 2:47 PM ^
At this point in the season, Michigan deserves to be ahead of Wisconsin. Michigan has improved as the season has progressed, and UW is playing about the same as it did at the beginning of the season.
Let me put it this way....if UM played Wisconsin at a neutral site tomorrow, who would you pick to win? Vegas would favor UM by a few points.
November 10th, 2019 at 4:30 PM ^
Depends on who's at QB for M.
Patterson L.
Me W.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:49 PM ^
Clemson's schedule should not place them 9 spots higher than Baylor.
November 10th, 2019 at 3:31 PM ^
Like Clemson, Baylor has not played a ranked team all year. However, Baylor does play #9 Oklahoma this upcoming Saturday, whereas Clemson does not play a ranked team all year until the CFP, and that includes the ACC Championship Game.
November 10th, 2019 at 3:47 PM ^
Minnesota should be ranked higher than Clemson.
November 10th, 2019 at 4:15 PM ^
Yup. Believe it or not, the Gophers have played a tougher schedule - including PSU.
November 10th, 2019 at 4:45 PM ^
Maybe you can remind me -- how did Clemson do last season? Does a team deserve any sort of ranking bonus for precedent?
November 10th, 2019 at 5:35 PM ^
With the turnover in college, honestly, no. But if you're implying that it does get weighted then yes, you're right. I happen to disagree with the notion though. And yes I know what I think doesn't mean diddly.
November 10th, 2019 at 5:58 PM ^
Clemson is destroying teams most weeks. Sp+ has had them top 5 all year. If they go 13-0 they deserve a spot no doubt. 1 loss and it’s a no.
November 10th, 2019 at 9:46 PM ^
Place both teams on neutral field. Who would win. Clemson would throttle Minnesota. That's why they're ranked ahead of Minnesota. The rankings are for the best teams in the country and Clemson is objectively and subjectively better than Minnesota by eye test and S&P+ rankings.
November 10th, 2019 at 4:50 PM ^
CU and Minny would definitely swap places if Minny had gone 15-0 last year, throttled Bama, won 2 of the last 3 NCs, a generational QB, 10+ NFL talent and a culture to beat ... while CU had 15 straight seasons without 10+ wins.
Only 3 people actually believe Minny could beat Clemson let alone beat them on a neutral field.
November 10th, 2019 at 2:49 PM ^
That's how you overcome a 21pt. deficit
November 10th, 2019 at 2:53 PM ^
Wisconsin and Michigan have very similar resumes. They both have two wins over ranked teams at home (one by a significant margin over a team ranked in the teens, one close over Iowa). They both got crushed once on the road by a ranked team, and lost a close one on the road. The difference is that our close loss is to Penn State, while theirs is to Illinois. This is similar to the time that Notre Dame beat Florida State then lost to Boston College, and ended up ranked second behind Florida State.
Also, as others have said, Michigan looks like a much better team now than they were in September. McGrone and Haskins have emerged as major contributors, the running game actually exists, and the run defense is vastly improved.
