Yeah I know, the unwashed masses need constant scoring to keep their attention. It's why I don't really watch basketball anymore. The lack of defense has completely changed the game, and not for the better IMO.

Don't get me wrong, high scoring games can be fun. But I'll take a 14 to 10 win over needing 67 points to beat Illinois.

Fuck I'm old.

Texas has the best win in college football by far, at Alabama.  That counts for something.  We have nothing even close.

It would not bother me if Texas was ranked #1 at this point.  They would certainly deserve it more than Georgia who is getting credit for the accomplishments of players who are no longer on the team.

Things will sort themselves out.  Just keep winning.

Chris Murray from Reno has Michigan ranked 8th, 1 spot behind Utah which just lost 21-7 to Oregon State. Makes sense.

Edit: That is from last week, AP website hasn't updated individual rankings yet.

Still a bit early to matter much but that is ridiculous.  Maybe he has a chip on is shoulder re Cade.  Or maybe he knows nothing about football.  Or both.   Glad you mentioned it last week's ranking though.  I'm liking the SP rankings more and more not just because Michigan does well in that but because it takes out personal bias ( yes understand can be statistical bias too.)

In typical Michigan fashion, no matter who we play, it will always be “you still haven’t played anyone.” We saw how the media treated Colorado’s win over Nebraska, but now that we absolutely dominate them, they’re just bad. Rutgers is currently 4-1, but nope they’re awful too. UNLV and BGSU have both beaten P5 teams as well

Have you been listening to CFB Final on Sunday mornings?  Joey Galloway is such a homer jackass.  He said Oklahoma is the best all around team right now, and his sidekick Dan Mullin said Texas should be #1.  Galloway gives UGA credit for being the defending champ, but poo-poo's Michigan asking "when are they going to play somebody".

Galloway is not a person with a tough will.  He cannot bring himself to give any credit to UM, at all...

Have you noticed that CFB Final - a show that covers the day's CFB results across the entire nation - has now added an "SEC roundup" segment?

No Big Ten roundup segment or even ACC roundup or Big 12 roundup.  Just an SEC roundup segment.

ESPN is not even pretending anymore that they are anything but the in-house network for the SEC.  There does not even need to be an SEC network, ESPN is the SEC network.

No Big Ten team - not even Galloway's Buckeyes - is going to be highlighted on that show.

I heard Galloway and Mullen this morning say that as well.  I usually don't watch College Football Final anymore.  I used to be a regular when Rece Davis, Mark May and Trev Alberts were doing it.  It went downhill when they put Holtz on it.  The show lost me when Davis left and now is completely unwatchable.

Severing ties with ESPN may be one of the better decisions made the B1G.

LSU has no business being ranked. OSU vs Maryland should be a ranked spotlight game. If they weren’t coming off of a bye, I would have OSU on upset alert. Still wouldn’t be surprised if they lost. Maryland had looked legit.

Being #1 would nice for the feels and hype, but after we do our traditional faceplant in the bowl game, our ranking in early October will be irrelevant.

Mr. Positive.

I was thinking while Georgia was losing to Auburn yesterday, if we’re #1 this week going in to Minnesota, the media will reference a billion times how in 1977, #1 Michigan went to Minneapolis and lost.  So maybe we’ll be spared that now.

Otherwise, it’s true that rankings mean nothing now, especially at this part of the season. If the media had their way, they’d make the entire top ten out of SEC teams.

Yes.  In November.  I was there, it was cold and raw.  We turned the ball over repeatedly.

It was the beginning of our we-can't-contain-a-running-QB legacy.  Minnesota was meh that year, but QB Rickey Foggie kept eluding our defense to get into winning field goal range as time ran out.

Good to see Georgia's lead shirking and the Maize and Blue have 12 first place votes. The AP writers still love the Longhorns.

Michigan is in a good spot as we start October.

Mathematically, Georgia is 1.8, M is 2.8, and Texas is 3.0. (  ( (# of Poll voters)*25 - (team’s point total) ) / (# of Poll voters) ) + 1.  The AP has 62 voters this year. Your homework: simplify this equation.

TBH I would feel more comfortable if Michigan were not ranked #1in the polls till late November.

And with formidable November schedule, that will take care of itself. Don't screw up in October, go 4-0 in November, and Michigan will be #1 (top 3 at the very least) going into the playoffs.

I actually think it's better to be 2 or even 3 than 1, target on your back, maybe even higher expectations. UM is sort of flying under the radar with UGA, Colorado, USC getting more attention.
