Anyone have early thoughts about Michigan-OSU?

Submitted by Braylon1 on November 12th, 2023 at 7:20 PM

I can't help myself. The Game is on my mind at the moment. šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø

As of right now, I'm a little concerned about Michigan's situation at OT. OSUs defense has improved and the threat of Egbuka, Harrison, and Henderson is significant.

What are your thoughts?

MSU which is a shell of a football team was pushing OSU back time after time. They just couldnā€™t ever recover if they got behind the sticks. They literally got into OSU territory on the majority of their drives with no real playmakers. Their offense is a force to be reckoned with. You have to take MH off the table because McCord literally stares him down on almost every pass play.

I trust this coaching staff so much. I just want a win for them. So they can meet Karen Day at mid field after the game and give him the Michael Corleone to Fredo, ā€œI know it was you ā€œ treatment.

then, to receive the big 10 title from bigtitties (or whatever his name is) the following week.

thatā€™s what I hope for.

Worse DEs than PSU but not sure how they compare to Purdue's - Barnhart needs to step up or at minimum help him so we can have some semblance of downfield game.

They scored 20 on PSU at home, so wouldn't imagine more than 20-24 on us on the road.  (Transitive theory I know)  Think PSU and UM defenses very comparable with slightly different strengths (PSU is better on the edges of DL, we are better down the middle)

Marvin will get his, limit T Henderson.  Would like to get home on the QB earlier and more often - he is better than Aller by a lot despite being nothing like Stroud.  Think they will have a hard time putting up a lot of 10+ play drives but they have big play capability both with Henderson and Marvin.  I was surprised by the ability of PSU to gash us in the run but to be fair it was the first challenge of the year for the DL and I think it can't be understated how playing teams you are so much better than all year is a bit of a detriment when it's such a step up to players who will actually be in the NFL.  So that will be helpful to have that under our belt.

Don't know their pass protect numbers for OL - will be looking for info on that in the coming weeks.

Barnhart will be helped out just by playing at home. The PSU crowd noise was loud. The DE has an advantage because he can move as soon as the ball is snapped. Barnhart has to sense when the snap is made. At home, heā€™ll hear the cadence and the snap count and be ready when the ball is snapped. That extra half step will keep him from repeating his PSU performance. At least I hope so.

I want Ryan Day suspended for the game by the Big Ten based on hearsay that he is behind the PI firm hiring. He should be suspended until we find out for sure he is not behind it. There is now precedent to back this move up.

Bash them senseless.

I know we have a Ferrari QB who barely came out of the garage last week. But the idea of running it down their complaininā€™, whorry, HPV painted throats the whole game, and just watching the light go out of their eyes as they recognize this game plan from ā€˜21/ā€˜22, and they realize thereā€™s nothing they can do.  It just is justice.  And would be incredibly satisfying.

Then I wanna see Harbaugh cross the field for the postgame handshake and whisper, ā€œCry more, Third Baseā€¦ā€

My thoughts are that we should forfeit the Maryland game if Harbaugh isn't allowed to coach it. We still win the B1G if we beat tOSU the week after and lose it if we don't. Why play ball with any of these assholes when we don't have to?

Marvin Harrison Jr. is going to be a problem. Iā€™m glad we have Will Johnson to line up opposite him, but that guy is going to make some plays. We have to accept that now.

I think PSU and OSUā€™s defenses are somewhat interchangeable in difficulty, but with PSU having better edge rushers. I donā€™t think McCarthy will be under as much siege, and I also believe yesterday had to be a massive confidence booster for Corum and Edwards, that we can come back to them to carry the load in big time moments,

McCarthy is going to have to be a difference maker in this game. As Joel Klatt would say, he needs to be ā€œyour out pitch.ā€ Because that is what MHJ is going to be. You canā€™t let MHJ take over this game. Double him, force someone else to beat you and live with the results.

I live in Ohio. I watch OSU games almost as closely as I watch Michigan games. My opinion is that this will be a war. The OSU defense is much improved. We beat them the last two years because their defense couldnā€™t get enough stops. I donā€™t see us putting up 30+ on their defense. I predict a fairly low-scoring, very close game.

Iā€™m a bit worried too about OT. I loved running the ball down PSUā€™s throats, it makes me cackle with glee. But Iā€™m also concerned that the reason for this was at least partially because we couldnā€™t trust our pass blocking to protect JJ.  Weā€™re gonna need to pass to beat OSU (I think)

The other thing that bothers me is I think with Henderson back and McCord starting to get more comfortable as heā€™s gotten more experience, the offense has seemed to have turned a corner from how it looked earlier in the year. I think our defense can hold off anyone (obviously) but theyā€™re gonna test us.

But overall, my thoughts are the same as theyā€™ve been all year: I think Michigan is the better team, theyā€™re at home and I think the one thing that OSU had going for them, the chip on their shoulder from losing the last 2 seasons, has been neutralized and then some by what Michigan has gone through the last few weeks. Michigan is hungry to shut everyone up, and they will.

I think Michigan and OSU are both great teams.

But Michigan has a better defense SP+ (#1 vs #3) and a better offense SP+ (#5 vs #15).

And it's a home game.

I like our chances.

Specifically:

OSU DEFENSE

Penn State has a better running defense (#1 in country) than OSU.  Michigan could run it on Penn State.  It should be able to run it on OSU.

Michigan could pass it on Penn State as well.  7/8 completions, 7.5 yds/attempt.  But Moore saw that he could win with 100% runs, and so did just that.  OSU has a bit better pass defense than Penn State.  But Penn State got 191 passing yards on OSU, Maryland 196, Wisconsin 164, Notre Dame 175.  I think Michigan is a better passing team than any of those and would be able to get some passing yards if it wants.

OSU OFFENSE

OSU's offense isn't as good as the last two years because McCord, while being a good QB, isn't Stroud.  Michigan's defense is excellent.  I think we can do well there.

Michigan and OSU are good teams.  I think Michigan is better.

Not getting too invested in this until we get closer to gametime. It's college football, so you never know. Who thought Oklahoma State would pound Oklahoma? (And then turn around to be eviscerated by UCF!)

At the moment my thoughts are: Michigan should have the advantage, especially if Harbaugh can return. But OSU will have the best player on the field, which can sometimes be the difference in college football.
