Anonymous SEC Coaches Say M Will Struggle vs. Alabama

As a followup to the previous Athletic article, Bruce Feldman is back with an anonymous survey of the SEC coaches. They think Michigan will struggle against Milroe:

“(Milroe’s) going to be a big problem for Michigan,” said an SEC defensive backs coach. “There is nobody in the Big Ten like him. He’s the best athlete on the field. He can run over your DBs and your linebackers can’t catch him.”

“I think Michigan is going to struggle to tackle Milroe,” said another SEC defensive coordinator who faced Milroe late in the season. “He’s very dangerous. I was not worried about the QB-designed runs. I was worried about when the pass is not there and he takes off and he has space.”

On the plus side, SEC coaches aren't scared of Alabama's RBs or WRs. More here.

The difference I take here between SEC and B1G:  SEC schools stick up for each other, B1G schools do not.
Of course, this is all dependent on what the “journalist” chooses to include in his article…

What they're saying is pretty much the same thing lots of us have been saying ourselves. Milroe is indeed a dangerous QB who may give M's defense some problems, and if he has a good game throwing on top of his run potential, it's not going to be easy to beat them.

I think Michigan would be more likely to control the clock on long drives with Zinter; that's the boa constrictor game that we've employed all year until he went down.

We saw what a good defense could do against our O-line to disrupt the run and get to JJ during the Iowa game. It's worrisome.

Nonetheless, I'm hopeful that Sherrone can get them sorted out, and make the most of this opportunity with some creative play calling that minimizes the loss of Zinter.

I am in my mid 40s and as far back as I can remember bowl games have been a shitshow for Michigan, with few exceptions. The meltdown against South Carolina a few years ago was the last straw. I haven’t watched one since.

It's going to be a difficult game. I mean who thinks otherwise?

It seems like at this time nobody is giving Michigan much of a chance, so I hope that takes the pressure off the team a bit and they can play the best game of the season.

The proof will be in the pudding. Michigan has historically been underwhelming in the post-season and hasn't looked good in recent games vs top SEC teams. Can't blame people for running with that. It's up to the team to prove them wrong.

Two years ago, some people thought UGA was exposed by Bama and was vulnerable. We were coming off our 1st win over Ohio in 10 years. Then we saw just how good UGA's D was, plus a world-class TE, combined with our immobile QB, and we got smoked.

Last year, we were clearly not ready for TCU, got down 21-3, later 41-22, and then gave up the backbreaker on a badly-timed safety blitz on 3rd and long that resulted in DJ Turner eating dust off Quentin Johnson's cleats. That was a poorly coached game by JH and staff.

This is the 1st time in our three tries that we are NOT playing a focused team coming off a conference championship loss. I was actually quite happy to be facing Bama and Saban (6-1 in CFP semis).

It's a good thing we are secretly playing the winner of FSU and Washington for the real national championship. Shhh, don't tell Bama and Texas that the SEC already all lost (ok fine, Big 12 too, for now).

We'll see how it goes, but the last 2 playoff performances have certainly opened the floodgates for the critics.

You certainly wouldn't know Michigan was the #1 seed and the Vegas favorite the way people are discussing this game.
