Andre Seldon will be the first #0 at Michigan

The NCAA recently allowed 0 as a jersey number and Seldon will be sporting that hopefully this fall. This kid is outstanding and I hope he can make a huge impact as a freshman right off the bat

Look out for Giles Jackson getting the other #0

NCAA also made a rule change that only two guys can have the same jersey number.

Brad Robbins.  In 2017, Speight, Gary, Nordin, and Robbins all wore #3 during the same game.  Last year's team also had four #3s -- Nordin, Robbins, Jalen Perry, and Christian Turner.

I suspect we're going to bs seeing some unusual numbers on the field with these new rules.

In basketball you cannot have a 0 and 00 (at least in HS and NCAA). As someone else mentioned, this started  to help refs signal to official scorers. Also, generally, the computer scoring systems used to keep stats during games require single digit numbers to have a leading zero entered to help identify the player (like 01 for someone wearing #1, bc otherwise the computer would wait for a second digit thinking you were going to input #10-15)

In the NBA, you can have both a 0 and 00, like this years Portland TrailBlazers, who have Dam Lillard wearing #0 and Melo wearing #00.

I really don’t understand why football is so weird with jersey numbers. It seems like the only sport that has certain numbers designated for certain position players.

No. 0 might take a little getting used to, but I'm excited for Jackson and Seldon.

Jackson began to emerge toward the end of 2019 and could work the slot well alongside Ronnie Bell, IMO.
