Amazon All or Nothing Michigan discussion
So I have been waiting for someone to post a discussion thread, and nothing has been posted yet unless I missed it. I know you all binge watched it, don't act like you didn't. So what did you think, did you learn anything you didnt know?
I thought it was great. Very well done, as bad as things went last year I expected this thing to be a terrible watch, I was wrong.
Some things I learned
1. Pep Hmilton was calling most of the plays? I figured he was more involved when Drevno came down from the booth but it seems like he was calling them.
2. Chase Winovich is friggin hilarious. He should be mic'd up every game
3.Wilton Speight did not come off great. Honestly I just don't think I would find him likable even if he was a good qb.
4. Don Brown is even more likable then I thought. The guys personality is awesome. Rare combo of being a really nice guy, funny, and the best D coordinator in the country.
What do you guys think? I don't think they could have done a better job with this special, really a great watch.
I love that guy.
I know this is not the full picture, but Pep comes off OK in this. Why were so many convinced he was the problem again?
it was heavily edited so they want Pep to be shown in the good light for the fans and recruits. I've heard rumblings that opposing coaches said Pep was not a good coach and showed that he hasn't gotten results in previous stops.
Lmao did Pep steal your girl? You're so confinced he's the problem that you're blinded by the fact that none of us know anything. Where did you hear those rumblings? I'll wait.
He was the passing game coordinator and the passing game was complete dog shit. Speight severely regressed with Pep after looking decent with Ficsh. O'Korn never improved. Peters had a month to prepare with Pep for South Carolina and somehow it was the worst he's ever looked. He was not a great recruiter for us.
I haven't watched any of the series yet but I'm really encouraged about all the positive Pep comments. I hope it starts coorelating to on field success.
What I think through 4 episodes:
It's really weird how Pep was telling Speight things to tell the offense to motivate them. Probably not normal or good. QB situation was a disaster and it shows. The offense overall just seemed discombobulated.
Harbaugh comes off just as weird making speeches as he does talking to the media. I would have figured he would have been different behind closed doors, but not really. Brown is more of a motivator it seems, which probably isn't good considering he's not the head coach.
Honestly, it's not shocking to me that we lost that MSU game at all, nobody seemed to give two shits besides Gary.
I wish Harbaugh would drop the ''nobody has it better than you'' crap. Honestly I can't believe before the Air Force game he said ''You play for the 7th ranked Michigan Wolverines''.
Perhaps it was creative editing, but only Gary appeared to have the same reaction to the loss to MSU.
Most disappointing thing was how much the prep for MSU seemed like any other week. There didn't seem to be any additional intensity for MSU or OSU. Harbaugh said some generic stuff about the game, but there lacked the passion that Dantonio brings to the rivalry and even Myer. You can't take over those rivalries if you don't match your oppenents intensity.
Overall Harbaugh came off as aloof, and not motivational at all. When Jack Harbaugh addressed the team, you saw a sparkle in the players eyes, and he got a standing ovation. When Jim addressed the team, they looked confused and/or disinterested.
What I liked the most so far (episode 6)... is knowing we have a true o-line coach now not someone who was paid millions to eat snacks next to pep up in the box. 2nd was good seeing Gary fired up during the game or after a loss. The offense needs that dog mentality- hopefully Herbert can change that mentality for the offense. I know the growing sentiment for Michigan fans is prove it now, but I feel like all these changes to the staff will show on the field next season. #1- we need a general as qb- don't act like after every tackle you are dying. #2 - get some nastiness in the o-line ... imo o-line unit as a whole was soft during the season and in the doc. unforunately. Time to man up next year
O'Korn on the other hand seemed like a raging narcissist. He flat out told Herbstreit he was better than Speight. Who tells a reprter that they are better than their teammate?
Edit: I'm only three epsidodes in.
I am only four episodes in, but I'll definitely echo the increased like of Don Brown in particular. The speeches, even the in-game talks, have been awesome and I am pretty sure that, at this point, I would run through a minefield for the guy if I were on the team.
Also, I can’t believe how much the team is reading the press and listening to the outside. I cringed every time Harbaugh said “you play for the #7 team in the country.” Alas, they didn’t for long.
I’m not naive, if I were on the team, I’d probably listen to talk radio and read about myself too. But I guess I’d be arrogant enough to not give a fuck what people thought, unless it was my team, my family, or my coach. As much as things seem obvious to the keyboard warriors, the reality is we don’t know shit without being at practice or on the sideline.
"As much as things seem obvious to the keyboard warriors, the reality is we don’t know shit without being at practice or on the sideline." This is true. And is what Speight kept saying...as he read it, fretted over it, and complained about it...
Brown has been a HC before. I think he loves what he is doing. I know I love what he is doing!
Ditto on Pep...Drevno has said 3 words in 4 episodes
but a really hot saint.
Dorothy Mantooth?
I kinda feel this too. I'm sure it's fascinating and I will watch it sometime, but watching an 8-5 season unfold just seems like it would make me sad.
Imagine if they did one of these in 2008 when Lloyd retired lol now that'd be must-see TV.
