Amazon All or Nothing Michigan discussion

Submitted by HAIL-YEA on

So I have been waiting for someone to post a discussion thread, and nothing has been posted yet unless I missed it. I know you all binge watched it, don't act like you didn't. So what did you  think, did you learn anything you didnt know?

I thought it was great. Very well done, as bad as things went last year I expected this thing to be a terrible watch, I was wrong.

Some things I learned

1. Pep Hmilton was calling most of the plays? I figured he was more involved when Drevno came down from the booth but it seems like he was calling them.

2. Chase Winovich is friggin hilarious. He should be mic'd up every game

3.Wilton Speight did not come off great. Honestly I just don't think I would find him likable even if he was a good qb.

4. Don Brown is even more likable then I thought. The guys personality is awesome. Rare combo of being a really nice guy, funny, and the best D coordinator in the country.

What do you guys think? I don't think they could have done a better job with this special, really a great watch.

I'm not sure he lost control, because he kept it together until the game was over. I saw it more as a guy who gave his all, and realized it wasn't enough. I think he was physically and mentally spent. It also felt like he was more upset about not winning it for his teammates (seniors) than he was about anything that had to do with himself. He's a very interesting guy. He goes from the calmest of calm people to an absolutely crazy person, with virtually no transition phase. I don't know if he goes somewhere in his head to get himself like that, or if he does it when he feels like the team needs a spark, or if certain things just randomly trigger it ... but it's Jekyll & Hyde.

O’Korn comes off as much of a real life boob as he did as a QB. He just seems like someone who feigns confidence or just wasn’t smart enough to realize he wasn’t good at all.

Speight comes off entitled and bratty. Not likeable at all.

Peters comes off like he just clam baked his dorm room.

1. It's not how much Pep knows. It's about the players know and can execute accordingly.

2. It's like some of you have forgotten about some of the very dumb situational calls our offensive coaches dialed up. Who else remembers the 4th quarter play call against PSU?

How do you know that was Pep though. Pep didn't want to go with the play where McKeon fumbled the snap and expressed that to Harbaugh. Harbaugh opted to proceed anyway, which resulted in a fumble. Sometimes a player (O'Korn) is maxed out talent-wise. You can't always blame the coaches for everything. Did you see how giddy Pep and the other coaches in the booth got against OSU when they called a perfect play on UM's last possession and O'Korn just blew it. The safety was exactly where he needed to be. That play call leads to a TD with a competent QB.

I wasn't that down on Speight because after the Purdue game injury, he was just trying to work his way back and I still think he would have lead us to a couple more wins if not for the injury. Also, we only see what the editors decided to show us, but O'Korn came across as someone who tried to talk a good game, but just couldn't get it done. You could really see the frustration from Harbaugh and Pep. I also think Harbaugh realizes he blew the bowl game when Pep mentions he didn't feel good about the play when the tight end is in at H Back spot and is about to get the hand off and relays down to Harbaugh that the play didn't feel right, but the let the play run and he fumbles it. Wrong people in for that play.

I've read alot of people wonder what Pep Hamilton does for this team, but I feel a lot better about his coaching after seeing this show.

Don Brown was awesome thoughout, but we had a very young group that wasn't up to being able to take the responsibility of winning games when our offense struggled so much even though he tried to push them to get it done on their own. I don't remember which game or episode it was that Pep just goes, "we can't block anyone". Our Quarterbacks weren't up to par, but didn't get any help from the line.

I'm an old guy who was 10 when Bo took over in 1968, so the Ohio State episode with the reality that we have won only 1 game in 13 years (or is it 14 years) made me sick again. Especially when we were in position to win it. You got the feeling the defense relaxed a bit when the freshman quarterback came in and then O'Korn couldn't stay consistant for a full game.

reaction was that this must have been a big distraction. It was a great idea for fans to see the inner working of a college football program. But was terrible idea as it negatively impacted the performance on the field.

I am watching it right now...got through episode 2.  Its better done than expected.  Love Don Brown and Rashan's mother is great.  Harbaugh is a good father too.

Agreed - it was sad to see an M student-athlete forced to eat at Red Lobster.  Only thing sadder is an M Alum that doesn't have Amazon Prime.

Currently on episode 3, but here are my initial impressions:

1. The show seems to focus more on QB play and totally ignores the deficiencies of the offensive line (and pass blocking by RB's).

2. Speight tends to whine a lot.

3. The show focuses a lot on Pep's role on offensive play calling. I wonder how accurate it portrays his role.

1. I think that we are all surprised about the way we viewed Pep. He s Uber intelligent and we know now what his worth is.
2. Harbaugh is awkward as hell. Their are moments in the show that made me cringe, but most people know that.
3. Reactions and pre-game was filled down by Harbaugh and Pep because their was a camera on them 95% of the time. Don brown doesn’t exactly have to worry about that so much.
4. Drevno was excluded for a reason. We all wondered why the show took so long. Well maybe the reason was, they needed time to edit the people who left out.
5. Seems like both Wilt and JOK were just as I expected. They are constantly in the mold of the rich white boy. They both had a distorted view of reality.
6. DON FREAKING BROWN. If I was a top100 recruit, that is thee man I would play for.
7. Rashan Gary won over the hearts of any and every fan who watched. He is the true definition of a Michigan man.
8. Jack Harbaugh. Glad he is around, if you have watched to the end, his speech was something else.
9. Update the facilities. I know we got even more money to update Schembechler hall, but my god compared to the best of the best, we are really far behind In terms of being high tech and appealing. It still looks really old.
10. Get them boys into better dorms. Not a great look for recruits to show them south quad. Ugly, get them some Kentucky basketball type dorms near schem.

1) Pep was Harbaugh’s go to guy. Makes me have a little more faith in why he’s here. The bad play calling I think was them “hoping” not necessarily believing the plays were going to work. They pretty much felt the same things we did last year. Things just did not take off with this team last year. Had little faith in things going well on offense. Drev was pretty much there to give high-fives and agree with whatever Harbaugh and Pep said. He may have been in charge of getting coffee and snacks as well.

2) Chase IS great. He and Bush and Gary very well could
All be gone next season.

3) Wilt looks like he’s never lifted a weight in his life. Likes to eat a lot. Expected to just be the starter? I dunno. Seems like his teammates like him. Girlfriend pretty much called him out. That was great.

4) Don Brown was by far Harbaughs best hire. Matty is great but the way Brown brings the fire is unmatched.

5) really feel for grant Newsome. I think he would’ve been another great #77. How the fate of one play can alter ones trajectory never ceases to amaze me. Athletics..especially football...can be very humbling. I have no doubt that grant will make it big someday...in something tho....he is wise way beyond his years (I read his tweets occasionally and I’d elect him over 80% of the politicians out there).

6) wish I could go back In time to be a freshmen or sophomore again even if it was for just a semester. Sigh.

I’m not reading a lot of comments here but I like it through two episodes.

I do find it stressful to watch, at times because I know what is coming (especially w/ QB’s) but I love the off field spotlight on our players. Impressive group of young men and props to Coach Jim for taking his daughter to the trainers with an infected ear.

I have never, and will never, love having a man coach our team as much as Don Brown. After watching this whole series, I can't see how any recruit would want to play for a guy as much as him. I'm 5'10" with a dad bod and he made me want to get up and hit someone. I LOVE DON BROWN!!!

Loved the show. Was nice to get a small peek behind the curtain.

Some of you are reading way too much out of a few hours they decided to show us.

MAN... the show is awesome and love it so much!!! Now I know why O’Horn was not that great and it is all mental for him to make mistakes in Penn state and other games that he was involved. Harbaugh pointed that out as well. Wow. Made me love Meeeeechigan more!!! GO BLUE!!! Love the team and coaches. Excited for the fall!!!

It's an unprecedented insider look into Michigan football that none of us has ever seen. Behind the scenes at team meetings, practices, pre-game, halftime, post-game talk...it's really great for fanatics like those of us on MGoBlog

Most airtime goes to Harbaugh obviously. His home life, his family are highlighted, as are his attempts at motivating the team.

Pep gets a lot of run. He comes off good in the series. You can tell he cares about the QB's. Drevno gets very little airtime save for one segment when the oline visit his house. He must have been cut out once he left. Absolutely no Jay Harbaugh, no Greg Frey, no other coaches at shown much at all except Don Brown.....

.....Don Brown He comes off as good as anyone in the show. He's freaking awesome and I would kill to play for him. His halftime speech of the Florida game was only 30 seconds but It gave me chills. 30 Seconds and I was ready to put on shoulder pads and go kill some fools.

QB's get the most attention of any position group (by far)Speight comes off as a rich entitled kid who is proud of his "dad bod". John OKorn gets ALOT of airtime. He's comes off as a "try hard" kid who who just isn't any good. He has a good attitude out there and try's the rah-rah talk more than any offensive players. He'll be successful in life, but not at football.

Gary and Winovich are highlighted a lot early on in the first few episodes. Surprisingly very little Mo Hurst coverage considering he was an All American. Just a Segment showing him as an Uber driver. Higdon has a daughter. I feel he's primed for a breakout year. I had forgotten how many long runs he had.

It was depressing looking back at all the losses last year due to poor QB and offensive line play. And that final loss to South Carolina in he bowl game was just stunning to rehash. I still can't believe how much they rolled over and gave that game away.

Touch the Banner did a great breakdown of who was actually on the field for U-M that day. It was basically a B or C team relative to who played in the season opener.

In other words, while it might’ve looked like they rolled over, the real problem was that they were on their 3rd-choice RT, 2nd-string QB, etc.

Maybe, but they still rolled over. Tough season and hard to blame them too much for it, but until Michigan Football takes a lesson from Michigan Basketball and stops spiraling the moment they have a couple bad breaks, we're going to go through this every offseason.

Harbaugh is so darn goofy. I'm sure he's a great offensive mind but really strange as a coach. Seems personable though. But can you win it all like that? It is clear he had tremendous patience with what he knew was a young squad.

My son and I enjoyed watching the first four episodes. Looking forward to the remaining ones. Love the behind the scenes stuff. Well done.

One thing I noticed and began to realize- Calling the plays is one thing- designing them is what the coordinators do as well. A lot more behind the scenes here that we didn’t see- Pep, Drevno and Coach Harbaugh are probably all in together in designing and implementing plays, and then game planning.

It was a young team, and a very injured team. Playcalling, decision making, the youth and injuries surely doomed this team last year. Let’s hope we see differences this coming year.

All in all- I think the players and the coaching Staff grew last year from the adversity. Again hoping to see some advance this coming year. Go Blue!

my favorite moment was when the guy in the uber asks Mo Hurst if he has season tickets?

"Yep".

LOL, the 2 people in that car might both love Michigan football, but they are WORLDS apart.

That part was actually fuckin sad.. and said a lot about students that attend football games.. Most of us on here are obsessed, but I'd at least think if you have season tickets you would know who the best player on the team is.. yeesh.
