All teams have players who can be perceived negativity

Submitted by olsont on March 26th, 2019 at 7:50 PM

Visiting my birth home Michigan. Glad to be here except the MSU fans who like to start problems.

I am very neutral but supposidely michigan players are horrible people because they showboat ( Bradzeikis) and fans whine about bad fouls during the game against Msu and we get a better bracket region compared to MSU even though we lost 3x

Any help on rebuttal or specific examples where MSU acted similar

You will never win that argument. You cannot get your mind to fully comprehend the bitterness, insecurity, and resentment that Sparty feels for Michigan. We could field a team of eight Patrick Beileins, and they would find a way to talk about their character flaws.

I encourage you to take the highroad, like Tracy Wolfson with Dane Fife.  If you don’t know what I mean, I pity you because that interaction was the ultimate bitter Spartan juxtaposed with the confident and humble Michigan Wolverine.

I feel partly to blame for Dane Fife's ire towards Michigan.  I chanted "DAAA-ANNNE" DAAAA AAAnnnnE" along with the rest of the students when he played for Indiana and he came to Crisler. We felt justified because he decided to not follow in his much better older brother's footsteps.

I doubt he will ever forgive the Michigan fanbase for that type of treatment.

We beat them that day too if I remember correctly.  If not, don't ruin my one good memory of that era and correct my poor memory.

I second this...

And I come from a three generation family of spartys...was always taken aback by the hate, and there is no point in arguing...and sometimes, to catch myself in doing so, I remind myself...that for me to have been accepted to M, that approximately 3 others who applied, had to be rejected...and believe it when I say at least two of those became future Spartans.  They hate this more than the devil, and essentially their fuel...

Try this test next time...if you encounter a somewhat civil in life sparty who onlyoisnt civil regarding M and is over  the over the top hateful top hateful in M... I guarantee he applied to M and didn't get in.... An older brother was like this...his incessantness in trying to get me to go to msu, even took me to their football bust.... Later in life I find these hand painted wolverine helmets in closet, thinking they were my older M alum brother... Turns out, they were of the former...when I confronted him about it, he wouldn't answer .. this is GROUND ZERO of spartyness.

I’d rather see our guys flex than slap the floor.   Slapping the floor is obnoxious.

Edit.   Oh.  And then ask them why Izzo supports the cover up of rapists and woman beaters among his staff and players.

I love Iggy, but at the same time I get why opposing fans hate him. It is dumb because all players "showboat" or talk trash, but some players just come off slightly different to people I guess. It's probably the same reason I hate McQuaid, even though it's possible he's a nice dude. I just hate that Mcpoyle lookalike and his stupid face.

They produced donkey the nutkicker who talks more trash and showboats more than any other trash player in the NBA. Think of the worst offensive player you can and imagine that guy talks trash every time he makes a layup or one three out of 15 like he’s kobe or MJ. Thats donkey for you. He is the most overrated player in sports. He doesn’t do one thing that warrants him being considered anything more than a discount in every way Bruce Bowen. He has no handles, cant drive, cant create for himself or others, cant shoot contested or wide open, has no mid range game, has no three point game, has no post game, is bad at finishing, cant shoot off the dribble, cant get his own shot, cant defend players taller than him without help defense, gets technicals because he whines like a bitch, and he loves other dudes nuts, specifically hurting them. This was just a rant about donkey. Just tell staee fans to burn couches.

You will not win that one....you have never met people who will move the goal posts like that fanbase so they can perceive a win.

I'll put it this way...during football season a couple MSU grad coworkers razzed me all week  how either MSU or OSU will win the Big 10, "lewerke > shea", "MSU D > UM D", "Harbaugh is over rated." ...you name it they went there. I simply shrugged it off with a smirk all week...even after we man handled them on their own field I said nothing to them about it on Monday..which was met with "hahaha the only time MI can even beat us is when we have a terrible team like this year or the 3-9 season!!"

I'm sure just about everyone here can share similar stories. The mental gymnastics of that fanbase is simply astounding. They are like that bully who picks a fight just to get a reaction from someone...and when they can't they just don't know how to act. Your best option is to always take the high road in these situations....plus it drives them nuts.

There's truth in this, the best way to get under a Spartan fan's skin is to treat them like they don't matter.  Before the MSU game last October, I tuned into Valenti just to see what kind of narrative he was spinning and was amused to find him clearly annoyed at the lack of Michigan fans calling into his show to engage him in his inane insult-hurling.  He fell back into the usual MSU trope that only Spartans are truly passionate and how Michigan fans are shirttail bandwagon riders, it was quite funny.

Based on the title, content, and spelling I'm not sure I'd put money on you to win any debates.

That said, MSU fans have a weird obsession with Iggy. Constantly bitching about his looks and the way he acts when he scores. He was freshman of the year in a conference with some 1st Rd picks, it's not like doesn't impact the game.

Show them the kenpom rankings of the final 4 path for each team. Its been on Twitter and it's a pretty big disparity showing our path has been the hardest.

Does it have to be basketball examples because their football team had a few bush league moves last fall...

I am going to remove myself from this thread before I type something I will regret. Get me started on hating sparty and I can say some nasty, vulgar things about that fan base and university. You root and are a fan for the greatest university in the world, that’s all you need buddy.

Just remind them of the time Adrien Payne befriended the cancer patient, but only because he sexually assaulted someone first and Tom, The Great Leader of Men wanted the Lansing newspapers to write about something less....rapey.

I feel like after the Montana game even most people on here conceded that Iggy is slightly on the obnoxious side. But at least he can take it, took it in stride when the bench flexed back at him.

its rough for them that they got Duke as the 1, but i thought they had a path that would let them basically walk into the elite eight game against duke

You can bring up the off court issues of MSU players. Keith Alpping had a nice jail stint. Mateen cleaves still has his ongoing sexual asault case. Appling, Payne and idk the Thurs player raped that girl "alledgedly" but u was around campus a lot at that time and let's just say everyone knows it happened. Travis Walton and his legal issues. Draymond showing his dick to the world through Snapchat.

Sadly we have Lewan and Gibbons so I don't want to go there. Except it again points to my main argument; that both teams have players that do non ideal things .Just wanted an example from basketball that was similar to Bradzeikis kinda like the floor slapping.

xtramelanin

March 26th, 2019 at 11:08 PM ^

no, we actually don't have 'lewan and gibbons', and it looks like you are just trolling when you write something so inaccurate.  they aren't in the same galaxy of actual rapes and a quarter century of carefully hidden sexual assault.

iggy's flex is not my cup of tea, but he and all of us enjoyed the 'touche' of the montana bench when they gave it back to him on a following drive to the basket past iggy.   that isn't comparable to the false tough-guy floor slap.

I honestly have no problems with the spartys in my life during this time of year. One guy I work with doesn’t watch a single game until the BTT. He then wears all his nasty ass green shit to work IF they win and says “go green” as he walks past my office door.  I laugh hard and say “your not even a fan dude!”

He shuts up after that

Anyone who is a fan of the coach who had to be pulled off his own college-aged player by other college-aged players has no business talking about character deficiencies in his/her opponent.

I am so sick of every fan base getting mad at other people just because of who they root for.  For some reason our biggest rivals are completely obsessed with UM and have so much hate for us as fans of them.  Enough of all the hate.  Can we just find commonality as college sports fans and just root for our teams without getting mad at the other teams?
