247: 5 New Blue Ballz
Michigan, Notre Dame, Louisville, Wisconsin, Miami, etc., but lacking big names from the south you'd expect to see for guys who are 4* and up. Maybe the coaches see something they like in him? Maybe the coaches see freshmen and sophmores at Buford they would like to get at a later date...
He says he ran a 4.4 40 at the camp.
Saw the interview. That 40 time gets 3 fakes out of 5.
It is incredible the amount of success they have had recruiting RBs over the last 15 years, at times having 2 NFL level players in the backfield, compared to some of the bums/busts we've brought in (or let transfer away without giving them carries) during that same timeframe.
Saw the ballz earlier today and proceeded to watch his highlights. good, not elite speed. I'm a little concerned when I see a highlight tape and the RB is untouched on most of his runs, unless he really does have elite speed. Fortunately he did have a few runs where he showed good balance spinning out of a tackle. Definitely not as quick or explosive as Chris Evans who was of a similar size in HS.
is that part of the rankings system is geography. Legit 5* players are hit the worse, simply due to there being such a limited amount of them. I can recall - it's been nearly a decade, but still true - one of the sites admitting "Alabama had a truly rare year and there is no way we could give 5 stars to all those who deserved the ranking.
This was even worse when print magazines still played a tremendous role. But even with most fans getting their info from the net, there has to be an appeal to all geographical concerns to keep the fans interest. These rankings sites are no different than any other businesses in attempting to make their product as attractive to as many people as possible. If this young man resided in a state like OR, for example, he could and probably would be rated a 4* RB. We've all certainly seen lesser skilled, higher ranked RBs on tape than this young man.
Their primary concern is keeping recruiting fans interested right up through signing day. Of course, they wouldn't stay in business if they did not display a certain amount of integrity - who would put Fournette somewhere other than no 1? - but playing with a few stars in order to gain a lot of dollars is well worth it, and actually understandable.
To be fair, he had to start with "lhglrkwg".
So 3 DL, 5 OL, 2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB, 1 QB, 2 LBs, 2 CBs, 3 Safeties for 21 commits? Coaches have to be positive that they want a kid before they offer them because we don't have room for too many flyers.
I was thinking two TEs before we even lost Asiasi. Now I woulnd't be surprised if we took three. We took zero in 2017 and need to make up for that.
Brevin Jordan and Will Mallory would be ideal.
Harbaugh. We're in on a lot of good prospects too.
Then you havne't been paying attention. Harbaugh has shown many times that he will offer a kid without the intention of him being in the class. How many times have we seen an offer go out to a lower rated kid, see a flurry of ballz to Michigan, and then nothing. Or the guys we take early and then stop talking to and they end up somewhere else. Not saying this kid is in the same boat, just saying it does happen.
has shown many times that he will offer a kid without the intention of him being in the class."
Remember that He works in mysterious ways. I don't think for a minute that he would intentionally mislead these players. Others for sure, but not the players & their families. The balls you speak of are not Harbaugh's.
Well if Harbaugh offers a kid and his family an offer pending x, y, z aka a conditional offer...and then the kid tells a reporter or "insider" that he got an offer. You can easily satisfy both of your points.
latest qb offer. Kid has talent, but we've got, and will get many more with basically the same skill set. I can't help but wonder if it might have been a ploy to hopefully get someone we've been referring to with three initials to hopefully pull the plug and if its for the good guys get that commitment wrapped up so He, Drev and Pep can start scheming, using the spread as a legit part of our offense.
Or maybe the guy with 3 initals (how do we know he doesn't have 4?) is a silent commit to that school out west with four initials and this is the next option?
...or a backup plan?
- QB: Dorian Thompson-Robinson/Tyler Shough (in order)
- RB: Keaontay Ingram/Christian Turner (in order)
- WR: Amon-Ra St. Brown
- WR: Jahan Dotson
- TE: Brevin Jordan/Jeremy Ruckert/Zach Sheffer (in order)
- TE: Will Mallory
- OL: Marquan McCall
- OL: Antwan Reed
- OL: Daniel Faalele
- OL: Emil Ekiyor
- DE: Nik Bonitto
- DE: Aidan Hutchinson
- DT: Tyler Friday
- DT: Tommy Togiai
- LB: Kolin Demens
- LB: Dallas Gant
- VIP: Otis Reese
- DB: Isaac Taylor-Stuart
- DB: Sammy Faustin
- DB: Myles Sims
- DB: Kalon Gervin (after Brian Kelly leaves or is fired)
I'm curious as to how we take this kid with such few spots available on the OL. He seems like more of a project. He's 250lbs and plays in D4 against sub par competition. I guess you could say the same about Hutchinson for the most part.
It makes you wonder how much of an emphasis is placed on the camp circuits. And what can you really get out of those when you're a lineman.
What did he do at the Chicago opening that shot his ranking up so high?
Not dogging on the kid, just curious.
how recruits do against other top recruits vs. low level competition
I think Mayfield and Hayes are coming along with one more
I tried to project the timing of commitments as well. 1 QB, 1 RB, 2 WR, 3 TE, 5 OL, 1/2 CB, 3/4 S, 1 LB, 2 DL. 20 recruits total.
1.) S/VIPER: Otis Reese (4* GA)
2.) OG: Emil Ekiyor (4.5* IN)
3.) DE: Aidan Hutchinson (4* MI)
4.) S/CB: Myles Sims (4* GA)
5.) S: Sammy Faustin (3* FL)
6.) OT: Jalen Mayfield (4* MI)
7.) QB: Dorian Thompson-Robinson (4.5* NV)
8.) TE: Brevin Jordan (4.5* NV)
9.) TE: Will Mallory (4* FL)
10.) OT: Tommy Brown (4.5* CA)
11.) RB: Christian Turner (3* GA)
12.) WR: Tre'Shaun Harrison (4* WA)
13.) TE: Mustapha Muhammad (4.5* TX)
14.) MLB: Kolin Demens (3* MI)
15.) DT: Tyler Friday (4.5* NJ)
16.) OG: Maquan McCall (4.5* MI)/James Ohonba (4* GA)
17.) CB: Isaac Taylor-Stuart (4.5* CA)
18.) WR: Amon-Ra St. Brown (5* CA)
19.) OT: Daniel Faalele (3* FL)
20.) S/VIPER: B.J. Foster (5* TX) - I've just got a feeling something interesting is going to happen with his recruitment...
Others that are more doubtful:
-Patrick Surtain Jr. (5* CB), said a long time ago that he wanted to visit, but hasn't yet.
-Jamaree Salyer (5* OT), has recently expressed continued interest in UM, but c'mon man, a top 10 5* OT from Georgia is gonna pick us over Georgia, Clemson, and OSU with 12 Ballz to Georgia?
-Dorian Hardy (4* DE), is transferring to Paramus, but has Ballz to Bama and PSU and none for us.
No matter how accurate these picks are, I think the narrative for this year will be having elite commitments, once again, at the end of the high school season (November/December), an elite TE class, and shaking up the NCAA with success in Georgia and California. This is the precursor for a Top 3 2019 class with a run for the national championship in 2018. Harbaugh's nationalization of UM football in 2017-2019 should mark the beginning for UM becoming one of the three premier programs in the nation by the start of the 2019 season. In Harbaugh we trust.
You can't take just 3 guys in your front 7. That is insane.
3 TE

So, I wake up and have a cup of coffee, sit down to check MGoBlog, and imagine my mind when I see a post about five new blue balls. Naturally, my first question is this - "What the hell went on during the night shift here that balls were bruised in the process?"
Then I opened this and felt relief.
for going out with Diana Dick Tease last night, you wake up with Blue balls everytime.
I have watched on these sites, but what sets him apart is he's sporting Deveon Smiths hair.
Recruiting note - Jalen Mayfield, former Minnesota commit from Grand Rapids, received a huge rankings upgrade from 247 after the Chicago Opening regional. Former 3 star is now their #10 OT, ranked 105 nationally. He has 15 CBs to Michigan, I believe all after the Minny decommit. He'll be in town for the spring game, though a recent article says he won't rush his next commitment
Edit: Minny decommit, not commit
Buford is a 4A school in Georgia, which is the middle classification.
They're also a football powerhouse in Georgia. They've won 7 state championships in the last decade.
You would think that when a white circle appears around a player, the defense would key on trying to stop him.
Remember, a 3* from the south is the same as a 5* from the midwest.
It's a good thing we landed 7-star Donovan Peoples-Jones.
