2019 Verbal Commit, QB Cade McNamara, Considered "Best Guy There" at Elite 11 Qualifier Camp

Submitted by SkyPanther on

Cade McNamara had a good showing at the camp. This is what he had to say:

"The [Student Sports staff] pulled me aside halfway through and told me I was the best guy there....."

He's currently rated a 4 Star, and the #258 2019 prosect. I am certain his rank is going to rise, probably to the Top 150, by summer's end, maybe even the Top 100.

He has an impressive offer sheet, including Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame (he decommitted from Notre Dame just before committing to Michigan), USC, Wisconsin, and Tennessee. I'm sure that not only is that list going to grow, but the intensity to get him to flip away from Michigan will grow too.

Which is another reason the ranking system is so incredibly flawed and need to be taken with a grain of salt. The fans who take these rankings so seriously and as if they’re completely indicative of the talent of the player need to take a chill pill.

is a great story to start off a Friday!  Can't wait to see him don the Maize and Blue someday!

One of the things I found most impressive about his tape is his ability to sense pressure, move around in the pocket, and get the ball out before the pressure got to him. So many highlight reels, the QB is making precision passes, but they are able to stand like a statue behind their OL. He is moving within the pocket and, if necessary, extending plays outside of the pocket. Most importantly, even when he's be flushed out of the pocket he is keeping his eyes downfield and finding an open man to move the chains.

I noticed from his game tape that his HS O line was terrible. The pocket would collapse almost immediately and he would still make plays with his feet, IQ and quick release. Give this kid a decent OL and he can be really good

Until we see the O Line or schemes vastly improve I won't be getting excited about any QB prospect unless he comes with two tackle prospects attached at the hip.

It’s like our offense didn’t score 41 points per game 2 years ago when we weren’t playing our 3rd string QB and didn’t have extremely young WRs and TEs. Ugh, the season can’t get here fast enough

Get Quarterbacks, get all of them! Brady Hoke left the cupboard completely empty at QB, takes a while to restock and that's just what Harbaugh is doing, one more exciting and promising than the last.

I would hope he would be considered the best at a qualifier camp. What we need is a guy considered the “best guy there” at the actual Elite 11 camp.

Meh. The Elite 11 camp itself is rarely an indicator of actual QB talent. Plenty of QBs make the Elite11 but never amount to anything in college and then guys who don’t make the Elite 11 are way better. It’s a cool accolade and all, but winning the Elite 11 ultimately means nothing when it comes to being a good college QB.

No offense, but we have 4/5* linemen in spades. Check the roster. Being a 4/5* is in no way indicative of that player being a great offensive lineman. Last year our main starters were: LT: Cole 4* #125 overall LG: Bredeson 4* #39 overall C: Kugler 4* #68 overall RG: Onwenu 4* #87 overall RT: JBB 4* #325 overall 6th: Ruiz 4* #47 overall So for most of the year, our line featured an entire unit of four stars, three of which were top 100 players and another that was borderline top 100 player. We finished 117th in adjusted sack rate. We also have a handful of other top ranked OL on the roster that weren’t able to push those guys for time. Kugler is a son of a football coach and a top 70 player, and couldn’t crack the lineup until his 5th year. This is exactly why so many people (rightfully) say that the recruiting rankings need to be taken with a grain of salt. We have the 4/5* linemen. We have had them every year. That’s not what makes a good line. Good football players that are coachable and willing to learn and put the effort forward to develop are what makes a good lineman. Not some number next to their name given by some guys who sit behind a computer all day and only see these kids in camps in a T-shirt and shorts or on a highlight film. Neither of which is a great indicator of a good football player. People like you and so many others are so focused on that number next to the kids name and have no concept of what actually goes into being a good football player. Instead of focusing on his ranking, look at why they’re ranked where they are. Do your own scouting and evaluate the kid yourself. There’s no justifiable reason players like Khaleke Hudson should be ranked as 3* prospects. Look at the individual player and their abilities instead of just looking at their ranking. It’s an incredibly flawed system.

Is his arm slot on release almost sidearm? Hard to tell from highlights but it looks similar to Stafford when Stafford adjusts to pass rushers.

Obviously very good programs thought McNamara was good, because they offered him before this camp took place. I do see some very good programs in the list.

But still, some will complain he's not good enough, it's just a "qualifier camp", it's not real football, Harbaugh can't recruit, nothing good has happned for Michigan in a long time, we always get a rock for Halloween like Charlie Brown, etc, etc, etc.

The OL wasn't as bad as everyone is saying. The QB held the ball too long most of the time, and the WRs weren't getting open. The entire offense, as a unit needs to play more cohesive and crisp, and in turn will be more efficient. No question though, we've had issues here and there on the OL, but they aren't bad players.
