2013 banner or vacated banners: you choose
Simple as the title.
Do you hang a 2013 banner or flip the bird to the NCAA and hang the 4 banners that were taken down?
Why this thread? I'm bored.
My opinion: I think unless you celebrate it on the court, hanging a 2013 banner is pointless. The NCAA is a corrupt joke of an organization whose word means nothing, as evidenced by them reinstating PSU's vacated wins and their countless number of transgressions over the years.
I say hang them back up-

This would make a great T-shirt.

I am fine with hanging the fab five banners. Everyone has been cheating for long ass time, 50 teams involved in the current addidas and nike investigations, I am supposed to be ashamed Chris Webber took money from a guy he knew since jr high? I would hang those banners up and add 2 more banners that are just maize hands raising the middle finger.

We don't have to do anything.
The NCAA does not have a banner regulation.
We could put up banners saying we won the last 30 NBA Championships if we want.
Michael Jordan my ass.

Very few responses on here are funny, but for some reason this almost made me spit pepsi everywhere.

different from the "Louiville appeal denied" thread.
Why is it so awful to even suggest hanging the banners? If bumping silver up to gold in the Olympics is valid in case of dishonorable qualification of the athlete / country initially awarded the gold medal, why/how is a similar practice not legititmate in college basketball?
Especially when the game was reffed kinda dirty.

What we do with our '92-'98 banners is up to us.
But we can't hang a banner - 2013 - that was never ours.
I am willing, though, to go to Louisville and rip theirs down.

It's a championship. It's more recent. And no one is ever going to forget about the Fab Five regardless of whether they have a banner or not.

Don't look now, but John Beilein is a Final Four away from replacing all the banners we took down.
And he came damn close to doing it in 2014.
(FTR, don't really care about the NIT one.)

Off-topic, hearing NCAA reminds me of "Stretchgate," which still pisses me off.

Don't hang a banner and accept the fact that the NCAA is broken and is a joke. It's unfair for the 2013 Michigan Basketball team to be playing against a team that was cheating but the NCAA doesn't care. It's a huge mess and the kids on the 2013 Michigan basketball team is the ones who are paying for it.

For some reason I read that in Perd Hapley's voice and it made it even funnier.

None of them. We lost to those teams fair and sqaure. But if I had to choose one, I'd choose 2013 because that team was clean. And because god damn it Burke's block was clean.
I don't know if Michigan would've won even if the foul wasn't called. But it would've made the ending to that game a hell of a lot more interesting. Burke was a man on fire in that second half and nearly won Michigan the whole damn thing all by himself. Had he gotten that ball in his hands only down 3 instead of down 5 after the foul, who knows?

Hang'em.
UNC is allowed to hold fake classes for 20-some years with no repercusions. Ole Miss football staff were caught red-handed paying players, and they got 1 yr probation and a couple of scholly's. The world knows that Cam Newton's dad shopped him around like a commodity to the highest bidder, and the NCAA looks away. PSU institutionally protected a child rapist, and their penalties were all reversed, like nothing ever happened. What did Baylor get for institutionally protecting and supporting rapists and sexual harassers? Not enough...
Fuck the NCAA, hang the banners.

I heard something went on at MSU too . . .

Hang banners for things you win, not for games you lost. Wichita state has as much of a claim to the 2013 championship as we do. So does duke, or any team louisville beat that year. Michigan has no real claim to 2013.

Hang the Fab 5 banners.
Ed Martin giving a loan to Chris Webber's family (if true) had nothing to do with Michigan or the NCAA. Saying he was a booster just isn't right. He supposedly gave money to kids that didn't go to Michigan.
Sexual Asaault is much more serious.
February 21st, 2018 at 9:33 AM ^
None of this is accurate.
February 21st, 2018 at 11:10 AM ^
February 21st, 2018 at 11:26 AM ^
Martin wasn't paying kids to go to Michigan.
If I choose to give my neighbor a 250k loan because he's a bona fide lottery pick in a year, then oh well. It's not the NCAA or the University's business.
The fact that Martin was laundering money is the issue.
February 21st, 2018 at 3:20 PM ^
By your logic then the SEC bagmen giving cash to recruits to go to their favorite school are just fine because they aren't university employees?
February 21st, 2018 at 12:39 PM ^
Ed Martin had no particular association with Michigan until we hired his friend Perry Watson in 1991. He had been a booster for Detroit Southwestern up to that point.
February 21st, 2018 at 4:13 PM ^
See: Terry Mills.
Also see: How the NCAA defines "booster."
February 21st, 2018 at 10:20 AM ^
Neither. No one would respect those banners. Might as well just paint a bullseye on our back.
February 21st, 2018 at 10:59 AM ^
Can someone take the Lloyd Carr "You just won the national championship" vid, make it a gif, and replace his face with Beilein? Put Trey Burke/Hardaway/Stauskas/Morgan/et al on the faces of players when they cheer. Have a cardinal in a trash can.

The team won the regional with eligible players and the violation occurred in between the Elite 8 and the Final Four. It was taken down by the "Old Blues" because of dislike for the Fab Five. Their first banner should be raised.
February 21st, 2018 at 12:50 PM ^
If the NCAA won't recognize us as 2013 champions, there is no point in that one.
I think 1992 can be raised - the NCAA itself recognizes our regional championship.
February 21st, 2018 at 12:47 PM ^
I would hang the Final Four and Big Ten Tourney banners, but I don't understand celebrating an NIT championship. Should we hang banners for in-conference tourney's like the Maui Invitational?
And of course we shouldn't hang a 2013 Title banner. Give me a break.

love the fab 5, was more than just the on court results, it was cultural.
i dont want a second place banner. we lost the game.
February 21st, 2018 at 1:18 PM ^
90's banners I sort of think we deserve selective policing and whatnot but whatever.
The 2013 game I thought we won on the court personally. Ref's, tv, announcers were so biased they can all go to hell. Everytime Michigan got a momentum swing play they'd cut to a tv or official timeout and the Georgia Dome would go from rocking to quiet at the next restart. I was there and pretty damn pissed about it. If Louisville got momentum they'd blare the loudspeakers, tell the crowd to get pumped and keep the play going. Eh was still a great game and one that I truly believe we won and deserved to get the W.
Then there was the block, playing on 5 fouls. All that crap for the Siva who was addicted and washed out the next year and the guy with the broken leg. Michigan lost before it started if anyone in power could control it.
I guess supporting Pitino brings more $$ in to fat evil men in expensive suits than Beilein whose biggest negative is that he's known for being too clean in recruiting.
#stillnotoverit
Still cannot comprehend upholding McGary's suspension despite the fact the rule had been changed. If there is a hell, there must be a crowded pit full of NCAA executives in a hot tub full of lava. Had he been around instead of getting manhandled by Kentucky crashing the boards he'd have boxed them the eff out laughing and we'd gone deeper if not won.
If I didn't say it yet. Eff the NCAA.
February 21st, 2018 at 1:37 PM ^
I would say, never hang the banners from the 90's. Period. Let it go. I would love to see something about the Fab 5 and the teams in the concourse, but not hanging from the rafters. I am not about giving a finger to the NCAA, lame though it may be.
Regarding 2013, I would just let it go. We didn't win the game. If the NCAA unilaterally decides to give Michigan the championship, well, fine, put it up then. Other than that, don't do it.
