This one hurts badly:

Worthy intended to enroll early but could not for reasons that remain unclear. Rumor has it that Michigan, the institution, was a problem. Worthy then stuck it out but that didn't sit well, and now he's out the door. Whether it was coaching turnover or player departures that made the decision is unknown.

This is a major own-goal for the football program and a depressing way to lose a guy who may be the fastest dude in the country.

There is no content after the jump.

the University itself in the last couple of years has been a major disappointment, from poor leadership in the president's office to AD to the way they have handled CV a major disappointment.

I thought I saw this was an another admissions department doing. On some level I appreciate that they take everyones admissions somewhat seriously, but mostly its annoying as hell.

Let’s just pull the bandaid off and fire Harbaugh already... why let another 2-3 years of treading water go by?

I don’t mean today and bc of Worthy’s portal move, but I do offer the consideration should now be seriously underway that he doesn’t have the requisite control of the team and the rats are jumping ship.

The demise of Harbaugh as the J. Ira and Nicki Harris Head Coach is inevitable.

BPone is pretty deep here, which I totally understand, this is disappointing.

Personally, I've been able to adjust my expectations for the football program down somewhat, and like recognize that Michigan doesn't have to be great for me to enjoy football season generally and Michigan games in particular. Sure, it's frustrating to be moving in the wrong direction, but having been a fan of underdog squads before, if we ever do beat OSU again we're all going to enjoy it a lot more than the OSU fans will enjoy another rote Michigan thrashing.

This was the recruit I was the most excited about in the last several classes. Huge bummer and it sounds like an institutional fail.
If we don’t have a good season, it feels like we will be back to a pretty dark place in 2021.

That said—it’s spring, we’re beating COVID, and my wife and kids are amazing. And also, Juwan Howard.

It's been like rats fleeing a sinking ship for the last 2 years now. At least they didn't just give the head coach an extension. Oh wait...

Michigan isn't beating OSU anytime in the next 20 years.

When questioned on a play all after the game Bo would say he’s not going to listen to 107,000 screaming maniacs in the stands. I wonder what he would say about all this.

I think he would try to prop Jim up for a year or two with some good assistants and see how it goes.  But then  I think he would let him save face and resign with a payout.

What Michigan Football is not: a well-oiled machine that has won anything of relevance in the past 2 decades.

What Michigan Football is: a money-making machine for the athletic department, the coaches, and Nike.

Look at it that way and "speak" with your wallet. Do that, and things might change.

There is just so much wrong with this program and we may as well get used to being a mid level B1G team. Tradition, previous success, none of that matters. What has this program won within the lifetime of current players and recruits? 10 win seasons is what we hang our hats on now days? What a joke! That used to be good enough to win the conference but that has changed and is no longer good enough.

Lets move on and look at who we are beating, oh that's right few wins against top 20 teams, road wins that matter, can only win half the time against MSU, ND and PSU, can't win bowl games and CAN'T BEAT OSU! Jim can only beat the bottom feeders in conference on a regular basis and some of those he has been struggling with in last few seasons. Our last conference championship was in 2004, we never had a team make the BCS, the current playoffs, win their B1G division or made the conference championship. So much for tradition.

Change? Sure we want minor changes like better play calling but this guy has changed coaches and offensive philosophy like most people change socks. Its no wonder the offense has no consistency, they're learning new stuff about every 2 years. The defense was fine until 2019 and against anyone not in a bowl or named OSU, but now that's a pipe dream as the defense is likely to be a sieve this year maybe even bringing back memories of the days RR was coaching, hopefully not that extreme but its certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

The transfer portal is where Michigan players go to escape. In the B1G only MSU has more players in the portal, not surprising with a 2nd year coach. In year 7 of JH I would expect consistency at this point. OSU for instance has but 2!!! We have more than Indiana and Purdue combined for instance. Why is that? Part of it could be change in defense but we have quite a few players on offense transferring and we had almost as many the previous year too. Something is very wrong with this program. It breaks my heart to see it.

I see many people trying to say no big deal about Xavier, and I do agree that this issue may be out of Jimmy's hands, time will tell as Xavier said he will talk about it once he signs with another school. But the facts remain, a lot of players are leaving and the 2nd best player in this incoming class is now gone from what was supposed to be a great offense in the near future.

I hope beyond hope that the optimists are right and that JH will right the ship, but I have seen few if any signs that it will happen. The players are happier at practice? They get to hear music they like? Wow thats great, but how about win some games, beat our rivals, beat OSU once in awhile as well as a bowl game and all will be well. Until then I shall take up the mantra of Missouri, "Show Me".

Harbaugh is a NFL exec that cannot build loyalty, or fire up young adults to exceed.

Everyone under him - coaches and players - perform below expectations.

I predict a 6 loss season, followed by a "last chance" 6 loss season, then he goes.

I would hope that after 6 wins and yet another blowout loss to OSU THIS SEASON that JH is politely shown the way out of Schembechler Hall.  Not next season...THIS SEASON.  At some point VERY SOON the guy has to show that he is worth his weight as the HC of Michigan.  He's gotta prove it with significant wins, and I'm not talking about just beating the likes of Northwestern, Rutgers, Maryland and Purdue.  Win some fucking games that really matter.

Michigan is a nationally recognized flagship brand that sells 100k+ tickets to every home game.  We deserve much better than a 6 win clusterfuck.  We still have more talent than 14 of the 16 B1G teams.  Get your shit together and just get the job done.

Michigan football continuing to shoot itself in the face over and over and over.

He deserves to go somewhere that will properly utilize his talents. I don't have much faith that he would've been anything more than another DPJ or Nico here. Not due to his fault or anything he did. A kid who you looked at and knew was just oozing with talent and potential, but wasn't consistently put in a position by his coaches to maximize on his talents.

Go to Bama, go to Oklahoma, go somewhere that will get the ball in your hand 10-15 times a game. You weren't going to get that here.

I think the problem is our head coach, Jim Harbaugh.  He hasn't beaten our main rival after many years, and struggles against some others.  Also, lots of people don't seem to want to work with him or play for him after a while, which has become a pattern.

BPONE turned to DGAF so long ago that my horizon for UM football success is 2-3 years out.

This sucks, but it's just more of the same.  Harbaugh's new guys turn things around or he gets shitcanned and eventually things will get better.

Expectations?

But where do these expectations spawn from?  One undefeated season in 1997?  Or was it before that when Michigan was actually relevant on the national scene back in the 40s?  Let's face it, traditionally M is a 10 win team that occasionally pops.

That's hard to swallow as a life long Michigan fan, but Michigan will likely continue to be out-recruited by the likes of all SEC schools and O$U because the standards are different at those schools.

Sure, losing a great player like worthy is punch in the gut, but with the changing rules in the NCAA, transfer rates are through the roof all over the country.

The "ceiling is the roof, man."

It's bad enough that we've had more transfers than OSU, Clemson, and Bama combined. Now we can't even get kids on campus. There's a serious problem in the program, and I'm quite certain it starts at the top with a person who has a hard time relating to players.

I've said this before: do whatever OSU is doing. They are neither being investigated by the NCAA nor have they been sanctioned, which means that for all practical purposes they're inside the rules. Stop bitching about them paying players. Just do whatever they're doing.

What has been the biggest concern for me is how many promising players decide to transfer.    Luiji Villain transferring makes no sense.   Dylan McCaffrey’s transfer made no sense.   Giles Jackson?  Aubrey Solomon.... etc, etc.

Do other programs have as much attrition as UM?
