This one hurts badly:

Worthy intended to enroll early but could not for reasons that remain unclear. Rumor has it that Michigan, the institution, was a problem. Worthy then stuck it out but that didn't sit well, and now he's out the door. Whether it was coaching turnover or player departures that made the decision is unknown.

This is a major own-goal for the football program and a depressing way to lose a guy who may be the fastest dude in the country.

I envy anybody who is able to switch it on or off by command.

Me too :/

I'm frustrated.  I stopped watching games live after 'Sconsin last year.  I still DVRd, but would only go back and watch if we won.  Needless to say I only saw one more game.

I really want to partake and certainly will when the product is not so frustrating.  Obviously I'm still here.  But, I won't ruin my Saturdays during the most beautiful time of year by getting frustrated any longer.  It's not worth it.  I'm turning into a fair weather fan.  There was a time when I argued with folks when they said negative things about UM football & JH.  I don't argue any longer.  I don't have much evidence to support a counter argument that is relevant any longer.

If you can, I envy you. I'm a huge fan and I always will be. That's why 2008-2014 (2011 excepted) and the decline of the Harbaugh era are so difficult. I vent about it on here, take whatever negs come, and get it out of my system. But I can't give up my fandom, and even at this point, I wouldn't want to.

You're right, though, there's no enjoyment left in this era for me. The team plays a boring style that does not utilize talent, the team doesn't win important games, and the team is sliding relative to rivals -- first OSU, then PSU and Wisconsin, and now teams like Indiana give us major trouble.

And yeah, I hope to be totally wrong about the "decline of the Harbaugh era", but I just don't think I will be.

And then there are those of us who are not just fans, but alumni, legacies, family, etc.

I'm not an alum, so I can see how if you went to school there and invested financially it would be harder to turn off.  My family are both from the Northeast and I've lived in the NE since middle school. But, both my brother and I were born in AA at UM hospital.  My dad got his MBA at UM.  My mom worked as a nurse in the UM hospital.  I grew up with UM sports my entire life and had UM clothes from the start my parents bought me as a baby.  I've got a picture of my brother and I from Christmas of '86 (I'm 7 and he's 9) where we got full UM football uniforms with jerseys, pants, helmets, and pads playing football in the front yard (we lived in TX at the time so it was still warm enough).  My parents went to games at both Michigan Stadium and Chrysler back in the 70s.  I've been watching UM sports my entire life regardless of if we were living in MI as a small child or the NE later on in life.  It's all I've ever known.  We've watched together.  The Game is always a part of Thanksgiving.  I've indoctrinated my wife into UM sports.  I've taken her to see UM play at PSU and Rutgers.  As a teacher I post the UM football schedule on my gym wall every fall and update it with W/L records and have been doing this for almost a decade now.  My dogs names are Harbaugh and Maizey.  I've been in this for 42 years.  This is a part of my culture.  But, the reality is it's a choice and I can chose to stop anytime.

I mean, you know the quarterback play and play calling was never going to use him anyway so it’s not big deal.  Just one step closer to another rebuild with maybe a coach that isn’t busy podcasting with daddy about the glory days?  And not completely ignorant about what’s happening in front of him like the guy before?  And not the hillbilly version of sexual harassment panda like the guy before that?  One can dream.

Mvictors famously puts out "The Mood" after each game in the fall, which I think does a good job summing up the overall feeling of the fanbase. I have to imagine if he put one out today - this would have to be an all-time offseason low.  Worthy leaving does not rise to this level of apathy on it's own - but it' just YET AGAIN another tire on an already out of control fire.

Stuff like this just crushes us.  In the 20-21 recruiting classes Worthy is our only top 100 WR.  Henning was 102.  OSU has seven top 100 WR's over the same time period.  It is just so tough overcoming the talent difference and things like this don't help.

To be fair, I was ready to be very annoyed seeing him misused for three years. At least we get maybe watch him used to his full potential playing for a modern football program.

Michigan will never be able to recruit on a national level against Bama, OSU, Oklahoma, and other powers because of Michigan the Institution.  Lower the academic standards for athletic entrance and use the money made being elite to hire academic support so these kids pass their classes.  Out of 35,000 students, if only two or three hundred get in based on athletic ability won't hurt Michigan's reputation at all.  The arrogance of being elite and a unwillingness to adjust to the way the game is being recruited and played will always result in failure.

No speed, no space. The university as a whole needs to evaluate what it wants to be. If we want to be an elite university that happens to have a football team, then act like it. Free student tickets like UNC and Virginia football. Cut regular season ticket prices in half, if not in thirds. Reduce Harbaugh's salary further, tarp off the nose bleeds. The program and the school have done NOTHING to show they have any desire to be even remotely competitive in football. The money and time spent by tons of people that results in THIS is such an embarrassment, I can't even comprehend it

I think it’s pretty clear he didn’t make it academically. Not the first, won’t be the last. That’s part of UM though. You need to be a student first to get in. Not mad about it. I bet my paycheck he would have gotten into OSU and BAMA with out a thought though. When you get upset about Michigan not being elite, this is part of the equation. You should probably find a new team to root for!

It amazes (and frustrates) me that Harbaugh came in with a reputation as one of the most competitive and detail oriented coaches in the country, and yet here we are, in year 7, and we're seemingly one of, if not the, most disorganized messes in college football. Recruiting is a disorganized disaster (hopefully it's now finally getting fixed, but it should never have gotten this bad/should have been fixed years ago). We can't get our highly rated recruits on campus. Players transfer out at an alarming rate. Apparently one of our position coaches wasn't even on campus last year, and had to coach via Zoom or whatever. I mean WTF.

Some of this stuff is so hard to believe it feels more Onionesque than real...

Not just Harbaugh. The last three HC hires in a row have had their worst career performances, and by a country mile, coaching for Michigan. Even before then, late career Lloyd Carr's performance was well below his early career performance, AND he submarined RichRod's first season AFTER urging RichRod to apply for the job.

Yup, makes you wonder whether the problem is the head coach, or well...us.

It's the head coach.

And you don't have to look too far to find evidence that Harbaugh was never detail oriented... In fact, I don't think anyone that knows Harbaugh would mistake him for a detail oriented person in any aspect of his life.

Remember, this is a man that can't handle picking out an outfit for a day so he hangs the same shirt and pants up in his closet so he doesn't have to make a decision.

Some general rules to manage expectations:

- Believe they are actually coming when they suit up for their first game.

- Believe they will contribute after they play in enough games in a season to burn a redshirt, and don't end the season with a career threatening injury, or in the transfer portal.

- Believe the hype when they are actually named to an All-B1G/All-American team, or some other award commensurate with the hype.

- In the meantime, assume we will see some fine young men remind of our days as students in Ann Arbor. They may or may not fulfill our expectations, but pro tip: take the under.
