Exit Aubrey Solomon Comment Count

This is Not Good:

Former five-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon has asked for and received his release from the Michigan Football program, 247Sports independently confirmed on Monday morning.

Solomon was probably in line to start at nose tackle this year until an injury knocked him out for the first half of the season; he missed another game due to an illness and never seemed quite right. He was an almost certain starter next year at a spot that Michigan is suddenly extremely thin at. Mike Dwumfour might move over but he was a very bad run defender last year; Donovan Jeter is entering his third year and should be playable. That concludes NTs currently on the roster. If you were to pick a player to be the most damaging transfer he'd be high on the list.

So that's fun.

This has got to be the worst example of blind loyalty, ‘drinking the kool-aid’ I have ever seen. Holy shit...”dynasty in the making”?! My god you don’t seem to pay attention.

“Water under the bridge in 3 weeks”? Try a major, major issue for the next 1-2 seasons. You need to recruit and develop depth at NT now. A major position of need in the heart of the D. Doesn’t happen in one recruiting cycle either. M is Iosing current recruits and current players. Starters, depth and immediate impact players. Wow. I want to try what you’re smoking.

Well put, I hope there isn't something odd going on. And that there wasn't something odd that happened that set the program on this troubling trajectory.

But, you pointed out a number of weird things (I find the Milton thing pretty perplexing) and I'm wondering if Harbaugh is not a good roster manager. Dealing with a college team made up of  kids with a short, finite, unpaid career (and that is a stop to somewhere else) is different from a pro team that you can stock with highly paid established players and free agents. For college players, many of whom came to your school for a shot at the NFL, early playing time matters to them, and they need some level of trust from their coach that he won't jeopardize that chance by either 1) forcing them to play through injuries or 2) totally voiding their starting position in favor of someone else once they do get hurt. Plus, kids transfer so quickly and frequently now,  the staff has to consider and be aware of it. And I think this might have caught Harbaugh off-guard. The transfer landscape is so much different from when he was a college player. Even since he was at Stanford, it has drastically changed.

It sucks, but managing a roster is so much trickier now. You have to keep a lot of people happy.

I'm not sure the evidence you give is real good.

Dax Hill: We lost badly to OSU, and, honestly, losing a kid to 'Bama is going to happen.

Players sitting out the bowl game: Unless I'm mistaken, the ones sitting out the bowl game are going pro. I have zero problem with that.

I certainly won’t be downplaying the impact of the OSU loss but where are these reports of “disenchantment from current players”?  And sure Solomon he was a CLEAR starter but his stardom was not guaranteed.  He spent a lot of time injured and when he did play was underwhelming.  This definitely sucks, but let’s not try to make it seem worse than it actually is.  Oh and Hill chose to play for a dynasty program for an excellent coach, it’s not like he ditched us for MSU.

Well that's cryptic as hell. It could mean almost anything.

Honestly, I wish the kid well. I wish he was here, but I wish him well.

Whenever a kid leaves like this you are just curious. Is it him leaving because of something (relatively) innocuous, like he wasn't satisfied with playing time, or didn't have good chemistry with the University? Or is it something more ominous?

For now, I don't have evidence of something more ominous.

She was also asked via twitter why not just come out and tell everyone why he's leaving. Her response was just just posted:  "At the end lets take the road less traveled: the high road.  Unless you want to get a panel of all the transfers together and identify the central theme of all the departures and since that will not happen let them speculate."  The central theme comment is interesting.

Well, that might be disturbing. Maybe not. If it's all the kids who thought they were promised playing time and they didn't get it, then I don't have an issue. If it is something else???? Who knows. Might be no way of knowing.

All the same, I hope he does well wherever he goes. He's still a kid and I appreciate his time here.

This is my concern. There was scuttlebutt that the defensive coaches were pushing Rashan Gary to play through his injury when sitting out for the early part of the season would have fully healed him for the latter part. Possibly the culture on the D side is to play through injuries in a way that is leaving the players feeling like the coaches aren't on their side.

This is why people need to stop comparing Michigan's recruiting to Clemson. Clemson has one of the lowest attrition rates in the country. Michigan has already lost 8 kids alone from their 2017 class, including Solomon, Hudson, and Singleton who were all projected to start or have major roles next year. This doesn't speak well on the coaches AT ALL.
