Exit Aubrey Solomon
This is Not Good:
Former five-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon has asked for and received his release from the Michigan Football program, 247Sports independently confirmed on Monday morning.
Solomon was probably in line to start at nose tackle this year until an injury knocked him out for the first half of the season; he missed another game due to an illness and never seemed quite right. He was an almost certain starter next year at a spot that Michigan is suddenly extremely thin at. Mike Dwumfour might move over but he was a very bad run defender last year; Donovan Jeter is entering his third year and should be playable. That concludes NTs currently on the roster. If you were to pick a player to be the most damaging transfer he'd be high on the list.
So that's fun.

Sure it is; it goes back to the start of the 19th century at least:

Swing and a miss
December 17th, 2018 at 5:19 PM ^
There are some here that constantly swing and miss on Mangus or Magnus or Mugnas, however we're spelling it today.

Would that transition -- OL to NT -- be one where learned skills would transfer easily? Or would Onwenu have to take a step back and learn a bunch of new things?
And do you think Onwenu could excel at NT? Or would he be a good space-eater but probably not be a disrupter in the middle?
December 17th, 2018 at 3:30 PM ^
Time for Villain to get healthy and step up. We also need Mazi and/or Hinton to come in ready to get minutes.
Mazi may surprise people. He is a truck.
December 17th, 2018 at 11:15 PM ^
Who has your druthers? If you don't?
December 17th, 2018 at 2:31 PM ^
You mean most surprising, right? Who would be more surprising? Solomon was a regular contributor at a position that is losing both starters. He was set to be a starter for 1 or 2 years.
December 17th, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
...and he can probably go start at some other programs, too.
Obviously, starting isn't the issue. There are other issues going on.
So no, I mean least surprising. In other words, I am not very surprised.
December 17th, 2018 at 2:50 PM ^
He won't start next year at another program. His only shot of going to the NFL after 3 seasons of college football is by staying here.
So yes, some other issues are going on. Which you may be aware of. Which is why you aren't surprised.
Also, Blake Countess grad transferred, so he didn't have to sit out. It was also after a coaching change, so his status as a starter was uncertain.
December 17th, 2018 at 2:59 PM ^
Exactly playing time can’t be the issue with him. There is a lot more to this story then we probably ever will know. Good luck to him
December 17th, 2018 at 3:12 PM ^
I think Kurt Taylor's transfer was less surprising.
December 17th, 2018 at 3:25 PM ^
My quote: "Of all the starter-level players, this is the least surprising transfer news."
Taylor wasn't a starter-level player.

Point taken, but that was like 20 comments back on your previous comment. Do you really expect me to remember something that long?
December 17th, 2018 at 9:03 PM ^
Nah, I guess not. My expectations are very low 'round these parts.
December 17th, 2018 at 2:50 PM ^
So what's the excuse when Black officially is transferring out due to our offenses inability to properly utilize a loaded wide receiving core? Or when Hill and Long both declare for the draft despite getting mid round grades?
December 17th, 2018 at 3:08 PM ^
I don't think it's an excuse, just pointing out a lack of surprise. I think we are all getting officially concerned about what is happening to the program in wake of the 62-39 embarrassment.
December 17th, 2018 at 3:10 PM ^
Are you trying to spin guys getting drafted to the NFL as a bad thing?
December 17th, 2018 at 3:21 PM ^
I think guys leaving earlier when they have a chance to improve their draft stock is a worrying trend if it happens too frequently. Clemson had an entire defensive line of guys projected in the top 3 rounds come back for another run at a championship. It doesn't seem like the guys on this team view coming back as a worthwhile investment.
December 17th, 2018 at 3:34 PM ^
I'll let Deon Cain and Ray-Ray McCloud know that you forgot about their declaring early for the 2018 NFL Draft.
December 17th, 2018 at 10:35 PM ^
When Ray-Ray asks you a question, you bettter answer!

agree 100%...it's pretty hard to view anyone who goes back and forth (or, as in this case, says "fuck michigan") as anything other than a soft commit, up to and beyond the actual commitment.
December 17th, 2018 at 4:37 PM ^
It’s interesting his mom is making the cryptic statement on Twitter. It just makes thing, especially since Michigan can’t address any of this.
December 17th, 2018 at 2:20 PM ^
ouch. here's hoping for a grad transfer band aid.

Wasn't this hinted at mid-season by umbig11?
December 17th, 2018 at 7:37 PM ^
Yes, and I 100% owe him an apology for calling “bullshit” after his failed prediction that we’d struggle with Nebraska and through the season.
I’m sorry umbig11. You had the good info. There’s something going on behind the scenes and it’s not good.

Apparently did not want to be Au Solomon with our latest commit, An Solomon. Would have been Gold Jerry, gold. Too soon?
Can we just go old school take the names off of the back of the jerseys, and be done with this mess?
December 17th, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
Not sure if the Gold Jerry, Gold line is an intentional pun on "Au" Solomon or just a regular Seinfeld reference, but I'm +1ing on the assumption it's the former.

Old school? When was the last time Michigan didn't have names on the back of the jersey?
I like being able to know who made a play when I don't recognize a number. It's especially useful for players on other teams. In this day of players wanting more attention I'm surprised there are teams that don't do it.

December 17th, 2018 at 2:23 PM ^
That’s the ultimate troll job. Say, “Fuck Michigan” then commit, play, then transfer when the line is at its thinnest.
well done.
December 17th, 2018 at 4:43 PM ^
Not to mention a day or so before signing day. He could have waited until next week.

Superb BPONE on a Monday.
December 17th, 2018 at 2:25 PM ^
So What in the fuck is going on, it feels like the wheels are just coming off all over the place. Hopefully the program gets a reset, because something is just feeling completely off right now.
December 17th, 2018 at 2:34 PM ^
We're 10-2 with a Top 10 recruiting class. Losing Solomon is a blow but you must have no memory if after the last 10 years you think the wheels are coming off the program right now.
December 17th, 2018 at 3:12 PM ^
1. Sudden loss of Dax Hill
2. Long list of players not going to play in the bowl game
3. This transfer, and some other rumored ones coming down the pike.
Sorry dude I want to take solace in 38-13 over the last four years and YES, this is better than the results of the Rodriguez/Hoke terror twins. But you gotta admit there's a lot more chaos in the program than one would normally expect right now.
December 17th, 2018 at 2:36 PM ^
People said the same thing after Blake Countess transferred.
