OT: best-selling musical artists by state of birth
By state of birth...Eminem was born in St. Joseph, Missouri.
being born in Detroit. Glenn started Eagles.
Makes no sense the Eagle being the California act. Should be Metallica as all the founding members except for Lars were born in California.
Eagles is complete bullshit as the primary members (Henley and Frey) were born in Texas and Michigan.
They WERE a california band, but they seem to have flexible rules for this.
Texas should be Pantera country!
You don't get to claim someone because they were born there!
I mean, next you'll be saying that Ohio claims Charles Woodson!
Did I just make up a rule? No take backs!
Georgia should feel bad....hell, they should be dropped from the US for this.
Kanye is fine. Big annoying ego but had some great records early on
Washington should be embarrassed to have Kenny G
MO doesnt deserve Eminem and ugh... Madonna? yuck
Well, having the most successful female artist of all time (and fourth-most overall, behind the Beatles, Elvis and Michael Jackson) representing your state isn't too shabby.
Meh, from my personal opinion, they're both easily my least favorite, and I think critically and genre-impact wise, the general consensus is they can't hang with the first 3. I give 808s a ton of credit for proving Kanye is a true artist willing to be vulnerable and change his style. But while Robocop is one of my favorite songes ever of his, the album as a whole wasn't up to snuff for me. Yeezus on the other hand, I just could not get into at all. I tried, it wasn't working.
Out of the non college dropout series albums. My Beautufyl Dark Twisted Fantasy is my favorite, and makes a great case to possibly be my overall favorite Yeezy album (Graduation edges it out though). Overall beautiful album, especially when tied in with his short movie. I'm bit surprised it didn't get even more acclaim that it did, but I think that may be because it came out at time the public was starting to really get irritated with his public artist persona.
Honorable mention to his G.O.O.D. Friday series songs, which had some of the best songs he ever made.
...and that's worse than Colorado's love for Jewel???
Especially since it's Utah and not Colorado.
A lot of people don't seem to understand the map. It's not a map of the most popular artist in each state. It's a map of the best-selling artist to come from each state.
Was born in Detroit and raised in Chicago....The Map is confusing.
If Wikipedia is to be trusted, he was born in Atlanta.
I guess in their case they're counting California as the place where the band was formed.
If it were a map of the most popular artist, there definitely wouldn't be 50 different answers. There probably wouldn't even be ten. The hivemind is real.
I want it that way.

Where is this ranking that you and the OP are talking about?
from Ohio?
Akron's third finest export after Lebron James, tires and just ahead of the Black Keys.
The Prentenders are as well. Cuyahoga Falls for them (just north of Akron)
The rest of the Prentenders are/were English.
But the city in My City Was Gone is putatively Akron.
The Waitresses were also from Akron.
Maynard was born in Ohio, Dave Grohl was born in Ohio, Trent Reznor started NIN in Cleveland, Joe Walsh spent his formative James Gang years in columbus/cleveland.

Guided by Voices and the Breeders (At least the Deal sisters) are from Dayton.
To quote "Jocko Homo":
I've got a rhyme that comes in a riddle
O-HI-O
What's round on the ends and high in the middle
O-HI-O
New Mexico? that John Denver is full of shit
that all looks pretty miserable to me. Maybe excepting early Elvis and MS.
EDIT: Okay, Eminem, Johny Cash, and Prince. Would pay to see them. I used to know Madonna back in the 80s in A2, and love her as a person, just always wished her damned music were better.
people of washington:
Nevermind
Hey what a coincidence, that's Kenny G fans' favorite album!
should be Ohio's. They can't get anything right.
