He wasn't signaling for a travel, it was the motion for substitutions. The reason he kept doing it was because the timeout was not for real strategic purposes, JB just wanted to get MAAR out of the game. The ref knew this and wanted to stop the two teams from going to their benches and huddling up, hence the continuous and emphatic motion.

The officiating was terrible. Gene Steratore should never ref another one of our games.

I think basketball is really hard to officiate, but good God. Letting Tate, Bates-Diop and the big guy inside push off, hook and travel their way to the basket most of the time is frustrating. I don't know what was a violation. A touch foul is called, and then Tate runs over Poole and MAAR and gets an and one. They also were literally blocking people on screens. Holtmann has them playing hard, but they definitely were allowed to gain an advantage in physicality. The biggest load of crock is when Michigan has a 7-2 foul advantage that magically disappears. I was also upset when they wrongly overturned an out of bounds play that gave the Bucks a 3 pointer. Also, in the refs eyes, Bates-Diop can do no wrong. You don't have to be in the NBA to get star calls.

I am not a Steratore fan for basketball. I don't watch much pro football so he doesn't bother me there.
Big East officials in general are much better than B10 officials. They allow more physical play but will call things that should be called. There is much better flow in the games.
They also don't stop the game for several minutes to give a team with 1 timout a freebie. I don't care if it was to review the clock, the shouldn't have had the extended stoppage there. Steratore is becoming famous for his stoppages to look at replay. This isn't the NFL!

I echo this comment, in spades. It is RIGHT ON THE MONEY!
Refs are horrible, and game assignments seem to be made on politics and cronyism rather than competence, but, who do you select? They all seem to be incompetent.
They are high school refs who kissed somebody's behind in order to become a college ref.

How about when Matthews maintained perfect position on Tate, blocked his predictable shot, and got called for a foul. Or Wagner holding his position. Or Wagner somehow fouling an elbow with his face. The Big 10 administration and officiating are complete clown show jokes.

either they called everything or they called nothing. MAAR jumped straight up, the buckeye jumped into him and MAAR got the fout. just one example

And the last one on MAAR where Tate pushed him in the face, then kept a hand extended in his chest...foul on MAAR.
We’re terrible. And Steratore was watching those intently if you watch the replays.
The last one on Mo giving Tate an and one was awful too.
But overall, just kind of bad both ways.
