OT: Pistons trade for Nelson, Ennis before Deadline
Per ESPN: The Pistons traded C Willie Reed (acquired from the Clippers in Blake Griffin trade) for Jameer Nelson and will exchange 2nd round picks. They also traded a 2nd round pick and Brice Johnson (also acquired in Clippers trade) for James Ennis on the Grizzlies. Seems like relatively uneventful trade, but the Pistons got two decent depth players for essentially nothing, as neither Johnson or Reed really saw any playing time in Detroit

but they're on a five game win streak against mediocre to bad teams all at home (with some of them closer than a good team would have allowed).
We've seen these streaks before this year. Not really buying it.

The blanket on the blanket, but you are essentially wrong.
They've taken down 3 playoff teams.

getting crazy out there!
February 8th, 2018 at 1:16 PM ^
They just traded D.Wade back to Miami, too.
February 8th, 2018 at 1:18 PM ^
He didn't fit in with the Cavs but still crazy that he got shipped out so fast.
February 8th, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
Also dealt Rose, Crowder, Shumpert.

Pistons need a real superstar if they wanna go and win the finals.
February 8th, 2018 at 1:17 PM ^
Yeah, if only they had just traded for a guy who has been all-NBA four times and in the top 10 in MVP voting three times.
February 8th, 2018 at 1:23 PM ^
I'm guessing Pony-boy's next comment will be that he really doesn't follow the NBA and doesn't like the Pistons anyway. LOL

While it's easy to point at 2004 and disagree with you, I do believe they are putting themselves in a position where they could be one more major trade away from being real contenders. That won't happen until at least next year, though.
February 8th, 2018 at 2:42 PM ^
I think they need a guy that can create and knock down threes at an efficient clip to be a real contender in the east.
February 9th, 2018 at 1:45 PM ^
The Pistons are 4th in the league for 3 point percentage:

Griffin + Drummond give them 2 near superstar caliber players. I think people who haven't followed the Pistons closely don't realize how good Drummond's been this year. Here's where he stands on the leaderboard in various select stats:
1st. Defensive Rating
1st. Defensive Rebounds
2nd. Offensive Rebounds
1st. Rebound Pct
10th. Steals Per Game
9th. Blocks
10th. Win Shares
5th. Value Over Replacement Player (VORP)
It's ridiculous that he wasn't initially on the All-Star team. Fortunately, they've been able to correct that error.

you're going to give up Willis Reed I would expect you to get more than that.
February 8th, 2018 at 1:25 PM ^
There isn't that much market for a 75 year old.

the 1st half and hit his first 2 shots

I was at that game 7 as a 17-year-old high school senior. When Willis walked out onto the court at the end orf warm-ups, it was the loudest and most electric crowd I have ever encountered. Bar none. Clyde and the boys tore the Lakers a new one.

Zeke and Magic back together. What"? O

Good moves, essentially needed in order to rebalance the roster a little bit. They traded a big, a wing, and a guard for three bigs (even if Griffin is more of a large Swiss Army knife than a true big.)
I love the pick swap in 2022 with Chicago. Which team is the one betting they'll be better than the other?

P. Ennis................ that would be a neat name

bout those Pistons? Pretty fun to watch these days. If they can stay healthy, they are going to make some noise in the playoffs. No team is going to want to draw them, and figure out how to stop the Griffin-Drummond combo. That is a lot of talent, athleticism, height and beef on the front line to deal with...
February 8th, 2018 at 4:40 PM ^
who have built pace-and-space rosters playing guys who dont have the bulk to guard Drummond and Blake in the frontcourt. Great mismatch generating lineup. That 2-man combo is a +24.4 Net Rating so far in 84 minutes.

trade is really good. Wish we could resign him.
Nelson is mehh but reed wasn't going to see many minutes and we need a backup pg incase jackson stays hurt a while or ish goes down.
Very positive. Also the Pistons are fun to watch again for the first time in a long time

Basically what this guy said .. a true 3 at a wing, who can play d in a pinch on 3 positions and knock down open shots
February 8th, 2018 at 7:40 PM ^
Can be a c-list Shane Battier for the Pistons in that 3 and D role, they done did good.

that SVG has made today. These are low risk trade and it balances out the roster imbalance aka too many bigs and not enough wing players. Nelson is an insurance policy just in case Reggie isn't ready to go for the playoff. Ennis will provide depth at SF and be the glue guy.
Sure, they took on more salaries but both are on an expiring contract. That's a win-win.
The Pistons are in better position to withstand foul trouble or injuries at PG or SF.
