Patterson to ND
BREAKING: Four-star OL Jarrett Patterson commits to #NotreDame. He spoke to #IrishIllustrated and @247Sports on Tuesday about why he picked the Fighting Irish today. "All of the schools were great, but Notre Dame really fit me best." https://t.co/QAPNkcSspb @247Sports @jpatt78 pic.twitter.com/hUXkXXD3nf

Did we stop recruiting him? It's hard to imagine someone choosing South Bend over Ann Arbor. Of course I am much older with more life experience.
February 7th, 2018 at 11:14 AM ^
I'm sorry, but these comments are always so dumb. Of course it's hard to imagine choosing South Bend over Ann Arbor when you're a dedicated enough Michigan fan to be on this blog. I can't imagine choosing a pale ale over a stout, but that doesn't mean I can't imagine someone else doing so.
This rage isn't directed specifically toward you. These kinds of comments appear all over the board and I've finally lost it.

Your rage sounds a lot like my resting state.

name checks out.
maybe mine should be Everyone Kicks A Wall In Frustration Twice Annually

not only was ND a late entry but they also lost their OL coach during the process. This is an embarassing loss imo. Hard to overstate how Jim's staff has repeatedly missed on OL recruits past 3 years.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:09 AM ^
It's a miss, not a loss.
Kid went to Notre Dame and just really liked it there. These things happen and it's not always the coaches fault. It's frustrating but that's life.
If you want some schadenfreude, check out UCLA fans reactions to this one, they thought once he eliminated Michigan he was all but in the bag for UCLA.

Performance on the field, performance in recruiting... How 'bout you let me know when it's ok by you to voice concerns over the OL coaching.

It's time to start paying like everyone else. We have more money.

On one hand, Drevno has taken more heat than he probably deserves. On the other, I do not believe he adds any value to this team.

I live in the SB area. Notre Dame is not in Bum Fuck, IN. That's like 4 miles south of campus!
February 7th, 2018 at 10:20 AM ^
I've only been here a year, and it was actually a pleasant surprise. Not this winter though, this has sucked.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:42 AM ^
It may be just south of SB, but SB is in the Bum Fuck Metropolitan Area.

I don't blame him. Our OL has been a trainwreck for the better part of a decade, with very little reason to assume it will get any better next year. Meanwhile ND has put several offensive linemen in the first round of the draft in Kelly's tenure.
Kid's got to look out for himself, and I don't blame him for making the choice he did.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:14 AM ^
At this point - we are selling Hope to OL. Kids want to play for a coach/team that has the best chance to put them in the NFL. I don't blame this kid at all.
Look at what we did to Mason Cole - moved him around his whole career because of necessity and likely hurt his peak draft stock. I honestly think untill we get a new OL coach and our team starts consistently putting OL in the NFL we will have trouble recruiting the types of kids we want.

Just go with a running QB.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:29 AM ^
Gardner was technically a running QB.
You tell me how that worked out w/o a good OL. His body is probably still recovering from the savage beatings he took week after week.
February 7th, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
that allowed the defensive players to reach the QB at the same time the ball did, always seemed off to me, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:08 AM ^
Who the hell is going to commit to a school in which the oline coach public apologizes for doing a shitty coaching job?
Mind boggling.

And our highest commit before that flipped to Bama.
Harbaugh and Co. are really going to have to earn their paychecks next Fall. Don't care that all three rivals are on the road. It's put up or shut up time. You have a championship-caliber defense that's being wasted on a barely bowl-eligible offense. You've got 7 months to fix it. Find a way or make a way.

ND out recruited UM.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:38 AM ^
I visited there in the fall of 2016 when my daughter was picking schools. That campus, while pretty, was one of the most depressing places I had ever been. None of the kids were smiling and the whole place just seemed repressive and backwards. A stark contrast to NU, where all the kids were happy and obviously brilliant.
I just don't understand a kid choosing ND over Michigan. Even my super Catholic kid hated it.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:53 AM ^
And I think ND only had their O line coach for 2 months or some damn thing, while supposedly Drevno and Patterson had some solid relationship.

February 7th, 2018 at 10:27 AM ^
Drevno landed Chuck Filiaga in 2017.
February 7th, 2018 at 2:37 PM ^
Was that sarcasim or an attempt to prove something?
There has been nothing to inidicate Filiaga is some great player in waiting. Also, isn't he most likely a guard? I can see Michigan's starating lineup now. Left left guard, Left guard, Center guard, Right guard, Right right guard.
February 7th, 2018 at 10:23 AM ^
More like Drev-no recruits want to play for him son of a bitch WHY can't we hire someone better.
