Big Ten completely absent from announced McDonalds All-American Game
On one hand, this is bad seeing this talent drain away from the league. In some ways, though, I feel it hurts U-M far less than most than other schools

is a good example for the person who wondered why people with less than 800 points are allowed to comment/start threads.

I think you are missing the negative sign. It's -800, not 800.

Thought it was just a hyphen. Didn't realize it was a minus sign.

10 out of the 18 that have committed are going to one of Duke, Kansas, Kentucky or UNC.

Maryland has a guy on the list: Jalen Smith.
So I guess the point stands?

Jalen Smith -- Maryland
That said, yeah, these players are largely one-and-done and Big Ten programs tend to have more developmental models. This is a down year for the league but developing multi-year players has proven effective at many schools, including Villanova who is not on this list. It's not an idictment of the league.

I'm sure I wont watch the game, but if I did I would root for Simi Shittu.

names on there.
Bol Bol
Simi Shittu
Immanuel Quickley
Also, major comback of the Old Testament names, huh?
Moses Brown
Zion Williamson

I mean, if there can be a Dick Felt in the NFL and a Steve Sharts in minor league baseball, there can be Simi Shittu in basketball.
There was a NASCAR racer named Dick Trickle as well, I think.

Well, only 10 schools have a guy in the game (several are undecided) so I don't know what to make of that.
BTW, Vanderbilt has two guys in the game? That's got to be a first for them.
January 16th, 2018 at 5:13 PM ^
I'm expecting that in 5 years Vanderbilt will be under an NCAA investigation.

I'll take the over since they are in the SEC.
January 16th, 2018 at 8:10 PM ^
I would be slightly less than shocked if Oregon wasn't on the up-and-up, either.
January 16th, 2018 at 5:29 PM ^
They've always been okay in basketball, with some actual good years here and there, the whole of the SEC is trying to upgrade their basketball programs and if Vanderbilt wanted they could become Duke West(ish) they may be trying to make that move.
January 16th, 2018 at 5:36 PM ^
become the Duke Midwest if they wanted? And does that imply since they haven't (and same with Vandy) that they just don't want to?
January 16th, 2018 at 5:51 PM ^
They're spending a ton of money revamping Welsh-Ryan, so I guess they do want to now. They still have to get the winning part down, though...
January 16th, 2018 at 6:15 PM ^
But I think Romeo Langford is between Vandy and IU, as well....Bryce Drew might have something going in Nashville.
Also, based on crystal balls, the B1G still has a shot at Mosas Brown and Romeo Langford, fwiw.

UM needs a bb player that is well schooled or has the capacity to be in fundamentals. This includes everything needed for every position. They have been able to get enough size. I believe UM's main criteria is cerebral and John and crew teach them the game, the UM way, and Princeton, two decades ago, is the only school that one can point to easily and say, "That's Michigan Basketball." As a purist, you have to love it.
January 16th, 2018 at 6:15 PM ^
Cerebral, fundamentally-sound players can't be McDonald's All-Americans? Huh.
January 17th, 2018 at 12:52 AM ^
and I understand your point. Hell, anyone can; it was a give me if you want to play the "I'll take it, it's easy game." But normally watching the All-America game that is not the attributes that just jump off the floor and people start discussing immediately. Add that to the value most commonly associated and chances of an immediate contributor are far greater.
January 16th, 2018 at 6:08 PM ^
And yet, still very excited about UM's class, and UM's future is very bright.
January 16th, 2018 at 6:20 PM ^
I have a solution. Undecided should be our newest conference addition. They would be quite a force immediately given this year's recruiting class.

with McDonald's All Americans going elswehere. Recent scandals show that recruiting this type of player usually takes dirty tactics. We are hitting the sweet spot right now in recruiting with players just below this type of recruit who are still comparable in talent (Brazdeikis, Johns, etc.) but will likely stay a couple years and more likely to have better character and be better student athletes. We don't need the "one and dones."
