SC players comment on our offense
When asked if there was a moment where the Gamecocks’ defense felt they had solved the Wolverines, cornerback JaMarcus King gave an affirmative answer. He felt that way after Michigan’s first two drives.
“They gave us everything,” King said. “After that, we knew we could stop everything.”
Why? King felt the Wolverines were playing to their tendencies — running a lot of the same routes over and over again.
“The choice route where the receiver runs a mesh and the tight end runs a dig,” King said. “So they ran that probably 85 percent of the time, and they ran a lot of stop routes on the back side.
Similar answers were provided by linebacker TJ Brunson and defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, as well.
Brunson knew from certain formations whether Michigan was going to run the ball and where the Wolverines would run it. He could also tell what to expect from personnel groupings. That allowed the defense to simply read their keys and “make plays, execute.”
“We got in the right calls in the right positions,” Brunson said, “and everyone executed for the most part.”

Even worse, I keep seeing in these other games quarterbacks who, when they throw the ball, it goes where it is supposed to.
What's up with that?

Wish I had a nickel for every time I heard "Mayfield, with all day..." during the OU game.

That "throwing the ball where it's supposed to go" is one of those gimmick plays that we don't usually resort to.

We were sitting in the third row and MSU players were basically calling out UM's plays at the LOS.
January 1st, 2018 at 7:25 PM ^
Well that's fun to hear.

It is what we need to hear.

correction, the coaches need to hear it.

I suspect it had more to do with Peters' understanding - or lack thereof - of the whole playbook.

Didnt we hear the same things when Hoke was coach? from opponents saying we tipped our hand.

...and when Lloyd Carr was our coach.

Now is "Fire Pep Hamilton" appropriate?
I kid, I kid.
I'm not kidding.

Phil Longo had huge success in the lower ranks, was called up to be Ole Miss's OC this past year, and despite losing QB Patterson for most of the season, they ranked No. 11 in S&P+? Sold.

Mike Hart is only brought up because of him being a former player. Indiana didn't have any running game this year. We need to have Co-offensive line coaches that have both proven themselves, Dan Enos at WR, and a real RB coach, Jay goes to TEs.

Hart has followed Wheatley a little bit in his career. He's got the coaching resume. But more importantly, he'd CRUSH it recruiting wise at Michigan.
Wheatley was a huge blow in that area. Having a young, African-American, high energy alum...Mike Hart would clean up in the midwest and NE. Same reason I added Marrow. Is UK churning TEs? No. But go look at his recruiting resume.
People like to bash when people say "Mike Hart" without actually thinking about it because you think people only mention him because they want a "Michigan Man."
I didn't come on here and go...
Harbaugh
Hart
Braylon Edwards
Kevin Koger
Kurt Anderson
Marcus Ray
etc.
Hart is a RB coach, he'd keep youth on our staff, he's got passion for Michigan and energy that would be a huge asset to our program.

Is Dan Enos really our hire for OC? That seems like such a bad, uninspiring hire. I've seen his name mentioned a bunch, but I don't get why. Is it because he runs a pro style offense and he's from the midwest? We should aim higher.

With four weeks to prepare, the completely uncreative gameplan made me lose faith in our offensive coaching staff.
January 1st, 2018 at 7:35 PM ^
Yet it's the same staff that came up with the Ohio State game plan in a week.
Strange, really.
January 1st, 2018 at 7:51 PM ^
Yeah, right? How does this happen?

Complacency.
Everyone thought we had it in the bag.
In their hearts, even if cognitively they knew they couldn't / shouldn't over-relax.
I wonder if there are any personal / family issues playing into things too. Old-young family, etc.
January 1st, 2018 at 7:53 PM ^
I can't believe that you think they only focus on that plan for a week.

I agree that it's ultimately on Harbaugh and it's on Harbaugh to recognize this, put aside friendships and long working relationships for the good of the team and program. I think you'll see more discord if changes aren't made.
To be clear, I'm not giving Harbaugh a pass. I'm saying that the formula for game planning is not right and Harbaugh needs to get the guys around him to make it better. The status quo isn't working.
January 1st, 2018 at 8:03 PM ^
We had a good gameplan for OSU. We can acknowledge that without denying that there are more general coaching issues on offense.
January 1st, 2018 at 7:30 PM ^
It's like how I often played NCAA Football - run with the I-formation and pass with the shotgun formation. It's probably why I suck in that game...
