There are no rules which…

There are no rules which means there is no cheating. Michigan has chosen to self-impose rules that they believe are in their best interest. Those rules are different than some other schools and certainly place the athletic department at a disadvantage in the immediate future when it comes to attracting and retaining top talent.

But telling a player "I will pay you X amount of money to play here" is not illegal or against any rules that the NCAA has any sort of standing to enforce.

Careful, that's a pretty…

Careful, that's a pretty slippery slope that winds up excusing a lot of terrible behavior.

Yeah, well fuck you too.

Yeah, well fuck you too.

You will likely get short…

You will likely get short-term results on just about any fad-diet [personally defining this as a diet with a name] you try but you'll eventually plateau and get frustrated if the diet is the only thing about your lifestyle you change. Keto, by itself, is really just going to allow you shed a bunch of water weight. That's fine if the only thing you care about is the number on the scale but it won't necessarily get you looking fit by itself.

The comments portion of this…

The comments portion of this site has been botched over and over again. It's clearly not a priority for them; either it fell off the back of the site re-design backlog or it was never in the budget to begin with. Over the years people have asked for:

  • The old down-vote auto-hide threshold back
  • Reddit-style most up-voted on top
  • Ability to hide certain users via preference
  • Ability to report posts or users to mods
  • To be notified when someone responds to their comments

To be fair, I come here for the main page content and rarely venture into the board, mostly because I think many of the users here are either Brian sycophants that are unable to form their own opinions or trolls. I might venture on to the board more often and stay on the site longer than the time it takes me to catch up on the main page if at least one of the items above were implemented.

I thought the hard hedge…

I thought the hard hedge wasn't working out in the first half and was incredulous that they stayed with it in the 2nd half after it got MSU a bunch of free points. This just sort of felt like a Harbaugh game where the gameplan is the gameplan and no adjustments were made.

Open up the purse and start…

Open up the purse and start paying or we will never get over the hump.

We literally have the highest paid head coach and offensive coordinator in college football....

Normally I appreciate your…

Normally I appreciate your level-headedness but this comment borders on "the other guys just wanted it more" kind of bullshit. It's less about that Michigan lost this game and more about how. It's the same garbage that had plagued this team over and over and it comes down to just coming out flat against teams with a pulse. When you watch this team year in and year out while feeling like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day you eventually start losing apologists. I hope you stay strong in that regard because I'm running out of excuses that make any damn sense.

Welcome to MGoBlog where everything is made up and the points don't matter.

Yep, all a user would have…

Yep, all a user would have to do is restart their home modem and the router at the ISP would assign a new public IP address for that device.

I'm not sure why people give…

I'm not sure why people give them the time of day. I read through the comments on the Aubry Solomon post and couldn't figure out why people can't just downvote and move on. I don't post on the boards often but have been here for a minute, I feel like I remember a feature back in the day where a user's post was hidden after being down-voted so much. Either way, people's need to engage the crazy baffles me sometimes.

Which also makes it clear…

Which also makes it clear that zero effort is being put toward seeing if something has already been posted. There is a button to see more...

2nd place in the league with a 100 lead in points for over the guy in first place. Always frustrating because it means you caught everyone on their best week. Still, I'll take the first round bye.

One successful thing I've…

One successful thing I've seen is having a discord or slack channel or something where paid subscribers can interact with people from the organization on a weekly basis (a podcast I listen to does this). They also have a tier where you get to be a guest podcaster with them for an episode. I think both of those would be well received by potential MGoPatrons. Whether or not Brian could actually tolerate an in-person interaction with some of the... personalities... on here might be another story.

I'm glad to see someone else saying this and I'm honestly surprised there's not a horde of MGoSycophants attacking you. I honestly thought this entire thing was exceptionally childish. Even is Ed is wrong, it's still completely inappropriate to treat someone the way Brian did on the air and makes Brian look worse for it.

I love this blog and have been coming here for years before I created my account but it's getting harder to listen to someone who has to constantly remind people that he's the smartest person in the room.

If you're going to dispute a claim at least post a source backing up your point.

IMO, "like 20% or something" is close enough to the 36% that the CDC reported that the point still stands.

They mentioned voting "next…

They mentioned voting "next week" several times during the podcast so I'm thinking this was probably recorded during the week and there will be a regularly scheduled football podcast to come.

I'm really tired of turning on my TV and getting blasted by politics so I was a little bit disappointed about this but, on the other side of the coin, my buddy and I were just talking about how we knew next to nothing about the regents race so I guess be careful what you ask for, haha.

Yeah, that's where I'm at…

Yeah, that's where I'm at. Watched Bredeson block air a few times, leaving Runyan with a 1v2. Several stunts were still a mess. Interior D-Line was still unimpressive. I didn't see enough to make me feel good against the top of the Big Ten East.

It was still good to see the team do what they were supposed to do.

Exactly. My first thought at…

Exactly. My first thought at halftime was "cool, it's 2017 again." It really sucks to know I'm going to have to sit through and watch basically a repeat of last season but thank god I don't have to write about it to make ends meat. I'm sure he's at least considered a copy-paste from an article from last year once or twice in the last 48 hours.

Sure, you can argue that this is what he chose and you take the bad with the good but I think we can all forgive a some cynicism. I'd be more worried if he came out telling us it was all going to be okay.

I've always said: If this…

I've always said: If this happens at Wyoming nobody cares

The situation, as I…

The situation, as I understand it, is that the kid was seizing up so I don't think it was physically possible to force him to keep working. I think, and I'm no lawyer, the worst you'd be able to get stick might be criminal negligence.

Edit, I had not heard the interlocking legs part mentioned above ^

That's not manslaughter; it…

That's not manslaughter; it's not the law to be able to recognize and treat the symptoms of heat stroke. Is it part of his or his staff's job? I should hope so and, if it's not, it damn-well better be soon and not just at Maryland but everywhere. Not to under-sell the situation but this should absolutely be a wake-up call to programs around the country and an opportunity to learn from this.

This isn't me defending Durkin, I just think you're reaching a little bit there.

These are people, not just…

These are people, not just video game characters for our entertainment.

I mean, I get what you're saying: let's treat them with human decency, and I agree with that but also the sole reason they exist in the capacity that they do is for "our" entertainment. I think it's dangerous when we start holding athletes in spectator sports under a different light than an actor/acress, musician, etc.

Doesn't mean we don't treat them with humanity (which is easy to lose under the guise of anonymity) but also let's stop pretending the their opinions [on any topic] are more or less valid than the next person purely because they have a platform.

I think much of our fanbase became frustrated due to perceived fades to tiny McDoom-shaped objects.

This was also the only redzone play the Lions ran for years with Calvin Johnson and was not as successful as his 6'5" would lead you to believe.

I personally don't hold Collinsworth in that high regard. His prattling about how some 3rd string DE "is one of the best in the league at X" is very annoying. Dude isn't even the best on his team...

It would be incredibly stupid

It would be incredibly stupid for an ISP to put ESPN in the slow lane. They would be competing with themselves. In order to stream ESPN you must be subscribed through a TV provider. 90% of the time that is also your ISP. Slowing down an ESPN stream would be the equivelent of having a free HBO/Cinemax promotional weekend but only in 360p resolution. You want people to buy that, shitty performance isn't the way to sell.

It's far more likely that the ESPN streaming service couldn't handle all of the demand.

idk why people have to get so

idk why people have to get so worked up about others being wrong on the internet. Oh, someone @'d me, better get pissed off because they have a different opinion. It's almost like fucking politics, which are verboten around these parts. You're never going to convince certain people.

Control? No. Affect?

Control? No. Affect? Certainly. That's the whole point of coaches "working" the officials during the game. That's why make-up calls exist. I used to officiate soccer games and I've had my fair share of make-up calls. I've also had my fair share of "fuck you" calls. Right, wrong, or indifferent: referrees can be affected.

But even beyond that, a compelling case can be made to the league and, with the right about of tact and leverage, can potentially change how these games are officiated. Saying we can't do anything about it shows a lack of creative problem-solving and a defeatist attitude.

Yeah, my response is always

Yeah, my response is always "can't it be both?" Why can't we hope the players make plays and demand fair and equitable treatment from the officials?

Anybody who has played competetive sports for any amount of time knows how difficult it is to win an evenly-matched game in spite of the officiating. "Just win" is the mantra of someone who knows little about competition and wants to feel better about themselves for painting others as excuse-makers and whiners.

And I totally get that there's a ton of people that sit and watch these games that see their receiver getting held on every play but don't see their defender doing the same thing. That's not what we're talking about here. *Puts on foil cap* this seems to go deeper than that. It's tough not to believe in conspiracies when statistics back up what you had previously just guessed at (see: every thread talking about Harbaugh dialing back the tantrums).
