Shea Patterson Senior Year Highlights
Fuck it, let's jump the gun:
https://www.hudl.com/video/3/5638262/5721ca9fe984d413d411a224
Takeaways:
- He can throw the ball good.
- He's got a little Johnny Manziel to him, but with better measurables (2 inches taller) and hopefully not a drug problem.
- Like half of his completions were TE seam routes which is right up our alley.
- Back to the Manziel comparison, but he seemed really adept at making something happen with his feet when protection breaks down while keeping his eyes downfield. That's something that would be of particular value here, since our pass pro may still be shaky next year.

Conclusion: I would like to have him on this football team.

I think that more depth and more shots at a super-stud emerging in camp are bonuses. If Peters is Michigan-leader-stud material, then bringing Shea in should ignite competitive fire not tighten panties...

I just looked up Shea Patterson highlights on youtube and the first one that came up was titled Johnny Manziel 2.0.
It's also weird and kind of uncomfortable seeing a QB wear #20.

Baker Mayfield, Russell Wilson, Johnny Manziel (college version).
Would be incredible to see what Harbaugh can do with him.

Watched his Vandy tape. I'm not going to watch Bama because I don't enjoy snuff films, but I'll try to get around to the other two. From Vandy:
The incomplete deep ball at 1:05 was a better deep ball than I saw out of a Michigan QB all year.
I know that the TD at 6:25 was the easiest pitch and catch in the world, but I bet a dollar that John O'Korn would've sailed that pass towards the curl route.
Showed some good power on the TD at 7:55.
Wish he'd thrown the ball away earlier at 10:42.
Throw at 11:48 made me cream myself imagining that's DPJ.
Good blitz recog at 12:37.

Ole Miss offense may be "simple," but I would rather watch that than our sludgefests.
December 5th, 2017 at 7:09 AM ^
When our offense was clicking - a moment here and there - I really enjoyed it. If a less capable QB was running the Ole Miss offense, it probably wouldn't be so enjoyable. So there.
December 4th, 2017 at 11:47 PM ^
Watched his Vandy tape and saw a pump fake and then stopped. That's all that I needed. I've been wanting to see our QBs pump fake for over a decade to no avail.

that is prepping for the next level. Shows the 'intangibles'? He definitely looks like a winner.
December 5th, 2017 at 11:36 AM ^
I wasn't very impressed by the Vandy tape. Yes, he hit some nice passes, but seems like a first read type QB (granted more in line with the offense he runs) and seems to make some questionable decisions ---There were times I thought I was watching JOK. Granted its a small sample size of what I've seen, but maybe Harbaugh can mold him. Peters seems like a more natural passer to me, but I do welcome the competition. However, I won't lose sleep if he doesn't come. In fact, I think Harbaugh might want Patterson more with the hopes he can bring some other Ole Miss players along with him than finding a new QB.
December 4th, 2017 at 10:26 PM ^
But it won't hurt to let him give it a try.
December 4th, 2017 at 10:34 PM ^
if we can get him. Guy plays with incredible precision and alacrity. You never know what breaks a season brings, but with him in the fold M has to be a preseason candidate for the CFP.

December 5th, 2017 at 11:54 AM ^
Precision? I saw a QB who threw behind his receivers at times and took his eyes off downfield when pressured. Moreover, he had 9 INTs and took 19 sacks in 7 games this year. That's over over an INT a game and almost 3 sacks a game. That will not cut it with Harbaugh. Yeah, that's not all on Patterson, but lets not make him out to be the next Brady just because he has some decent numbers in the SEC and a Manziel type highlight reel pulling plays out if his ass.
December 5th, 2017 at 4:27 PM ^
...but can he genuflect? And has he ever been caught masticating?

lmao, you forgot the /s

what state; maybe you are too traumatized by recent OSU success against us to see anything but red and white stars). If we get Patterson and beat SC soundly in the bowl, I guarantee we are in the pre-season top 10 in most every poll.

has the mentality that allows him to have fun on the field. Nothing better than watching someone having fun while they're on the field. Only when a player is at their most comfortable, any sport, can they do their best.
December 4th, 2017 at 10:35 PM ^
All i saw were shotgun snaps. We sure he will just pick up the scheme right away? Did look good throwing seam routes for some reason.
December 4th, 2017 at 10:55 PM ^
I would not object to bringing out pistol packages.

Very edited, but damn this kid is athetic.

It's not like Ole Miss was ever going to play in any meaningful bowl, regardless of the postseason ban. if he keeps putting up similar numbers at Ole Miss, and makes the typical incremental improvements that highly talented players often do, he will be in a great position to maximize his draft potential.
December 4th, 2017 at 11:14 PM ^
He probably wants a shot at a championship in college.
December 4th, 2017 at 11:18 PM ^
ole miss in the first place? he had his pick of colleges...
December 5th, 2017 at 12:10 AM ^
They were headed to the SEC championship game in 2015 until they lost a crazy OT game. All of their recruits were expecting them to at least play meaningful bowl games.
December 4th, 2017 at 11:02 PM ^
reminds me a little of Phil Rivers
December 4th, 2017 at 11:13 PM ^
before making a decison if he's good or not. Highlight tape does nothing for me since it doesn't tell me if he's good or not.
Don't make the same mistake where you watched JOK's freshman year highlight videos.

2% higher completion percentage; 63.8 vs 61.6
1 yd per attempt better; 8.69 vs 7.67
Better Passer Rating; 151.5 vs 139.8.
Size; 6-2 /203 vs. 6-6 /240
(FYI: Baker Mayfield 6-1 / 220; J. Manziel 6-1 /210; Russell Wilson 5-11 /215)
Speight has not been the same since the 2016 Iowa injury
Quicker, more elusive, and can throw on the run!
Come on up!

Patterson was better in high school than JOK as a 5th year senior in college. That is a fact and is just plain sad. Peters should have started from day one.
Get all your shit talking in now if your not a Michigan fan. We will not be giving handicaps anymore. There will not be anymore excuses, but I don't think they will need any. The defense is going to be unreal and I am starting to think the offense might be catching up. That will lead to a lot of lopsided wins.
Patterson will only make this team better and I don't think he is the only coming on board from ole miss.
December 5th, 2017 at 12:33 AM ^
Only one problem with your assessment; it comes from hindsight. Everyone at this point knows Peters was the better option but he never was given the chance to play because Michigan did not blowout any opponent to provide garbage time for him to get some reps. I am not sure how coaches evaluated practices but they do not always translate into quality game production (Think Hoke's practices).
Furthermore, there is no margin for error in college football. In the NFL coaches can tinker and try different approaches within the game or players in formation as a loss is not the end of the season or the opportunity to play for a championship. One loss depending on where it is at in the schedule could eliminate your team from conference or national championship contention. It is not hard to understand why some college coaches play it safe despite the potential upside of a risky decision.
Glad we now know what we have in Peters, the future is indeed bright for Michigan football.

He is looking to tranfer to either USC or Michigan and USC isn't taking him. So, he will likely end up with us. We would be crazy not to take him.
