Guessing Speight's destination
First, let me say that I'm thankful for what he has done as our quarterback and hope he gets his health back in order.
That said, any guesses as to his destination?
Based on nothing, seems like UVA could be a good fit. He is from Virginia, they lose their senior starter, and second string is currently a redshirt freshman. The other quarterbacks on the roster include a junior also listed as the long snapper and a true freshman also listed as a wide receiver. Any other thoughts on where he might transfer?
EDIT:
Yes, it was brought up here and there in the "Speight is transferring" thread and front page, but those are random comments scattered throughout all the dreck. This is specifically to speculate on where he might be a good fit.
Seems NC State might be a possibility - they have 3 RS Juniors and 3 true freshman at the QB position this season. Who knows if any/all of them will return for a 5th year. I really have no clue.

This. UVAs only returning guy with any experience threw INTs on 22% of his dropbacks, and completed as many passes to his own team as the other team. Speight also fits pretty well into Mendenhall's offense. As long as he checks out health wise, he'd have a great chance to start, and even if he didn't, he'll be getting another degree from a world class school.

I would see him play when we travel down there for Parents' weekend. My son will be a junior next year at W&M.

This is not likely. Speight isn't the style of QB Bronco Mendenhall is looking for. UVA is working on a couple other transfer possibilities, both of which are dual-threat types and at least one of which has two years of eligibility. I don't think Speight and UVA are a fit based on the style of QB Bronco has recruited and is continuing to chase.

So... Demry Croft just transferred from Minnesota... Would be ironic if Speight ended up there somehow.

This is actually a good point. Minnesota's QB situation was dire even before the Croft transfer (which I discovered by reading your post). Seems like Fleck likes a running QB (what did he have at Western?), which isn't Speight, but he'd otherwise be a huge upgrade for them.

Shane is done at CMU after this one season so Speight could go in there and take over for him next season

Last year Jedd had three very good senior receivers and a senior laden offensive line. And...tah dah!...an "innovative" offense. Had he stayed he would be criticized this year for lacking innovation.

I don't understand how people can compare last years offense to this one and say that the passing game coordinator is doing a bad job. Let's do a run down of what we lost:
- Both our starting Senior Recievers who are now in the NFL. (on top of that we lost our best WR this year when Black went down)
- 3 of our top 5 offensive lineman. Plus we still don't have Newsome (so really 4 out of 5 starters from the start of last year)
- Our two top TE's, one of which was the best TE in the nation (Asaisi was our 2nd best te last year)
- And our starting RB - Smith wasn't as big of a playmaker. But was a much better pass blocker then any of our RB's. And would always fight for a couple needed yards.
- Then we lost our Starting QB to injury!!
I don't care who takes over our offense, there was going to be a BIG dropoff. Everyone says look at what Fisch did last year. Well, Do you know what a Fisch led passing game did with John O'Korn at QB?? 59 yards!! Yes that was against Indiana.
On top of that. Did you see how many open recievers we had against OSU. I counted at least 4 that O'Korn flat out missed. Is that on Pep Hamilton?

a lot of the frustration was from early in the season. From, say, PSUish and on, I think the offense found its identity with the gap blocking. This allowed us to work in a little creativity in the passing game.
The offense to start the year was garbage. A lot of times the coaches were asking QBs to make NFL-level throws to inexperiences pass catchers. I credit the coaching staff for their changes after the PSU game, but it's fair to criticize them for the early season struggles. If for nothing else, the decisions to play Ulizio and JOK were wrong. Ultimately, it comes down to Harbaugh bc he has control over the team/offense, but who knows how much influence Pep/others had.

UCLA had a great offense with Rosen could stay on the field.
November 26th, 2017 at 10:25 PM ^
ASU not Zona. And his chances of getting that job over Sumlin, Austin, Fisch, Harold Goodwin, or Derek Mason are probably not that high. Sounds like Sumlin is the early favorite.

offensive line or receivers.
November 27th, 2017 at 10:20 AM ^
Yeah he had 59 yards if passing with Senior WR's and Senior Jake Butt. But you are right Fisch is a Genius for being able to muster up 59 yards passing in a game!!

He could walk in to Minnesota and be the starting quarterback tomorrow. Probably IU too, although UM may not allow that because they're on our schedule next year.

In that case, if this comment were a team, UM would certainly beat it.

Truth hurts, I know. The owner of this very blog has stated the same and he is obviously correct.

Does Indiana still have Cobbs and Westbrook next year? If DeBord gets replaced, that may be a good situation for Speight.
November 26th, 2017 at 6:59 PM ^
He will transfer to UVA with Drake Harris maybe.
