Uniforms for The Game
Apparently (according to this article), UM-OSU sometimes used to go "red vs blue" uniforms in the Game (up until the mid 50's or so). The apparent reason for change: hard to distinguish colors on black+white TV.
I am really hoping that Brian and co. take this on and get UM to push for it again. How cool would it be to see home uni vs. home uni in the rivalry of all rivalries? As many of you know, UCLA-USC has been doing this for a while (thanks to "What's your problem?" Pete Carrol).
Here is a colorized pic from the article; weirdly, it looks like Mich vs. Wisc, so not a great point being made here:
So what do you think? Wouldn't this be an awesome addition to The Game?

That was how UCLA and USC worked it out prior to the rule change allowing it.

Not quite right. If both teams agree in writing and the home team's conference vouches for the fact that the colors contrast (really), the away team can wear a non-white jersey. Without these agreements, then there's a fifteen yard penalty at the beginning of each half.

This is an authentic throwback.
The newspaper accounts of the Michigan Stadium dedication game in 1927 against Ohio State talk about the "scarlett clad" buckeyes on the field.

White away jerseys as a matter of standard practice didn't emerge until the 50s, purely because of black-and-white television. Two teams in non-white colors couldn't be differentiated on the screen.

Here's the 1927 game link:
Just few moments before 3 o'clock the Michigan eleven raced onto the field amid a deafening roar of cheering. Immediately following them came Ohio's red-jerseyed eleven with almost as great an ovation.

Hey, I just noticed: It was a 3:00 PM start game. In 1927.

A. why wouldn't they? Clearly USC/UCLA, and Utah/BYU got it sorted out
B. because home colors vs home colors looks better

True. I wonder if they give a shit what uniforms we wear.

The Michigan - Ohio State game was home color vs. away color in 1955:
It was home color vs. away white in 1958:
Sometime in 1956 or 1957 they switched. I have not found any images of those years yet after a brief search.
When I look at other non-Michigan Ohio State games, it looks like they proabaly made the switch in 1956.

For that opener, rather than that Maize monstrosity, I was hoping they could work something out where Florida wore their orange, and Michigan or their blue.

I'd be all for it, but I'm not color blind.

Classic Teams should stay to classic uniforms...unless they can sell more jerseys with alternates.
