I don't know the methodology for special teams but FWIW Brian said it isn't really useful for special teams.

I agree, S&P, for as much I as follow their metrics for O and D, are worthless for ST. Biggest flaw in Bill C's metrics, IMO.

I'm not sure that means much for predicting how their defense will look against Michigan.
November 13th, 2017 at 12:08 AM ^
Other then PSU Michigan hasn't played anyone with a consistent offense either and PSU put up 500 yds and 42 points against the UM defense.
According S&P these are the rankings of the offenses UM's defense has faced:
Florida - 105
Cincy - 106
Air Force - 48
Purdue - 71
MSU - 103
PSU - 24
Rutgers - 121
Minnesota - 104
Maryland - 96

I guarantee he will break tackles all day longSo what if he doesn't? What do you guarantee us? Will you eat a lemon?

Then again I never would have predicted what Iowa did to OSU, so it’s possible. I just don’t know how anyone can be confident after the past 10 years.
November 12th, 2017 at 10:56 PM ^
I'm not sure what the last 10 years have to do with anything. This is Harbaugh's third season and most of our starters are in their first year at their spots.
I'm not super confident (though I think a win is possible) but it's strictly because of this season and how it's gone.

The only data point we have from this year is the PSU game, and I think Wiscy is about as good.
Again, anything can happen. I’ve been waiting for the surprise upset Michigan victory for the past, you guessed it, ten years. Here’s hoping it happens this time.

We scored more than that against a comparable defense in a tougher environment with an inferior QB against PSU.

S&P removes garbage time, hence the rise. Would expect that Glen Mason doesn't believe in any of that newfangled "math". But you would hope more Michigan fans would.
Yes, internet tough guy Gary, good teams play until the final whistle.

None of you have any balls unless you believe Jim has it figured out and we're going to win by 50! Where are your balls? Do you have a pair? Or are you just walking around ball-less?

Have you had a ballectomy? Without your knowledge maybe, like when you were having tonsils removed some shady doctor surreptitiously removed your balls? Because I'm sensing a distinct lack of balls!

I hope so. Last year, Speight was 0-11 on third downs and we still won.
He did hit the long bomb at the end of the game though. Peters will have to hit one of those to win.

Wisconsin's defense is good. If Michigan beats Wisconsin it will be the biggest upset for Blue since the '08 Citrus Bowl.

Iowa's offense went from being ranked in the 30s to being outside the top 100
