I, too, questioned that. If UM ever plays a road game against a far inferior opponent, I will be annoyed.

That's why Miami played at App St last year and was going to play at Ark St this year before Irma cancelled that game.
Speaking of Irma cancelling games for Florida teams. WTF is Kiffin and Alvarez thinking by making FAU play a game in Wisconsin tomorrow? There's little chance those kids are flying back tomorrow evening. I think the winds in Ft. Lauderdale are going to be 40+mph sustained by that time.
September 8th, 2017 at 10:30 PM ^
Wisconsin is footing the bill for the hotels and allowing them to use their facilities to practice until it is safe to go home. None of the other teams were offered that luxury.
They get evacuated and still get to play football.

Oklahoma State is acutally getting a check to travel to S. Alabama, approx 300k. They'll also get two return trips out of S. Alabama, but will pay for both of the trips. In home games, and in theory finanacially, OSU will come out ahead. They've done simliar setups with other mid level schools in the past and for some reason its a trend other mid-tier P5 teams are picking up on too.

My first time watching Rudolph and he looks really good. I'll believe he's not a system QB when I see it, but I'm impressed so far

the "P" at the 50 yard line of the field at Ross-Ade Stadium so big?
Goes from the 40 to the 40 yard line. Weird.

These are some extreme duds of games. I have them, another random program, and the Nadal/Del Potro match on split screen.

It's amazing how Rafael has completely owned Roland Garros.

would change the game (but are worth it)
1. Forward progress. Change the rule to sopt the ball where it is when the knee or elbow hits the turf.
2. Intentional grounding. Change the rule to a penalty whenever the QB is obvously throwing it away to avoiud a sack. The ball thrown 'sort of is the general direction of a receiver' rule is stupid.
September 8th, 2017 at 9:33 PM ^
at where the knee hits?
September 8th, 2017 at 9:33 PM ^
the double post!
September 8th, 2017 at 9:36 PM ^
Why not?
Why should the reciver or RB get forward progress>
I mean spot the ball where it is when the knee or elbow hits the turf, in case I had left that ambiguous,
September 8th, 2017 at 9:48 PM ^
but to clarify...
let's say a running back has the ball, dives towards the first down marker. Ball is stretched out to the 20 but knee hits at the 17...are you saying spot it at the 17?

September 8th, 2017 at 10:26 PM ^
putting it in quotes...I am totally paying attention now. The reason I asked my question was because his initial comment was somewhat unclear, and I was thinking that there would actually be no rule change on spotting the ball.
September 8th, 2017 at 10:22 PM ^
The general rule is that the ball is down at the spot where the the runner is down, such as when the knee hits the turf.
This rule should remain.
But when a RB ar receiver carries the ball forward, but is then pushed back, they spot the ball at the point of forward progress. I am saying they should just eliminate the 'forward progress' rule and always apply the general rule (state above).
September 8th, 2017 at 10:28 PM ^
when you get one of those situations with a back running into a pile of defenders. Would you still want refs to blow whistle for forward progress, or wait until a runner goes down?
September 8th, 2017 at 10:44 PM ^
general rule. Always. No 'forward progress' special rule.
September 9th, 2017 at 2:33 AM ^
I feel like that would be counterproductive from a player safety standpoint. Instead of stopping when a player's progress is clearly halted, defenders would be encouraged to keep hitting, so as to cause the ballcarrier to lose some of the yards he gained.

teaser to get Oklahoma State -23 and the Purdue game over 49...which one is going to get me an L?
September 8th, 2017 at 9:33 PM ^
looks like Purdue made a great HC hire (even tough Ohio U is not good).
September 8th, 2017 at 9:34 PM ^
Huh. Jeff Brohm might have found some of that fairy dust Tom Herman was talking about.
I know it's only Ohio and Louisville is probably overrated, but they lose these games easily in prior years.
September 8th, 2017 at 10:24 PM ^
Not fairy dust, gravel. As in Jeff Brohm is a Howard "Throat full of Gravel" Schnellenberger prodigy. There was little if any mention of it, but Brohm led the Boilermakers against his alma mater last week.

Purdue and Maryland aren't going to be blood baths in favor of Michigan.
September 8th, 2017 at 9:37 PM ^
has turned the tables on the SEC with several excellent HC hires.
September 8th, 2017 at 9:41 PM ^
maybe just bruised and bloody?

I'm thinking mild radiation sickness
September 8th, 2017 at 9:43 PM ^
He's right.
M should win. But not it looks like M will have to play reasonably well to win those two, as opposed to just show up.

Purdue was only a three point favorite going into this game btw.

I said it before the season started, Purdue is our toughest "easy" win of the season. Of course, you could argue for IU and Maryland, but my vote is for Purdue because of their passing game and our supposed weakness in the secondary.

It's time for Ohio U to move on from Solich and point the money cannon at an up-and-comer like Bill Snyder.
September 8th, 2017 at 10:02 PM ^
Ohio knows what they have with Solich. A solid team who will make an occasional MAC Championship appearance.
Ohio has made two bowl game appearances in their history before Solich took over. Since then, 8 bowl game appearances when he took over in 2005. Pretty impressive considering the history of Ohio football which is not good.
September 8th, 2017 at 10:13 PM ^
you appear to know something about Ohio U., why does Ohio have SO MANY state universities?
September 9th, 2017 at 12:10 AM ^
Michigan has roughly the same number of public universities as Ohio.
Ohio has more of the 20k(ish) student variety, which makes sense given population and that there's just one huge school.

The announcers say "that's a football play." The defensive player led with the helmet, and if the running back hadn't ducked a bit he would have nailed him square in the facemask. I get that for many announcers, that used to be okay (or at least wouldn't result in an ejection). But you really don't get why the NCAA and NFL want to cut down on those plays? They always act so incredulous.
September 8th, 2017 at 9:59 PM ^
I totally agree. If the running back didn't adjust his head, that hit would have been a brutal helmet-to-helmet collision.
