Evans strikes me as a guy that likes to be unique. I don't know that I've ever seen a RB wear 12. Makes sense to me that he would want to keep that uniqueness.
Speaking of numbers/jerseys, looks like the team's photoshoot is happening right now. Can't wait for all the pics to come out.
Harbaugh has been very consistent on this - those who see the field first/more often will get their choice at numbers, seniority aside. Pretty telling that a true frosh gets to choose whatever number he wants. Kid is gonna be heavily involved from day 1. Still unsure if GP is going to miss more time or if his time has been served.
"little slot receiver who catches everything in tight windows" while accumulating a ton of YAC by getting lost behind the defense. With our young receiver corps, he'll likely be the most important outlet for our QB (whoever that is).
Remember the first TD of the season? Phenomenal route from Perry and throw by Speight. Saw that and thought "shit...this team is gonna be mean". Having a route demon in the slot is such a weapon when you have talents like DPJ and Black on the outside.
Usually the picks comes before the clean nose, I think.
Damn, did I just type and now am I going to post that?
It was a scratch!
Was there any nostril penetration?
I, too, hope he picks his nose clean.
Why is American football (usually the NFL to be more specific) seemingly the only sport in the world that cares about certain positions wearing only certain numbers? For example, in the NFL, receivers can be only 10-19 or 80-89. Why can't a receiver wear 77? It's just a number on a jersey.
are eligible, the numbers make it easy. Which is why an eligible player wearing a normally ineligble number needs to be announced. Imagine trying to call a defense and all the players on the field are numbered between 50 and 70. It could be percieved as a benefit to one team or the other.
Football has only itself to blame for that. Had it not made such an issue about which players wear which numbers in the first place, that would not be a problem.
have rules (only numbers 1-20) but they changed that a long time ago.
So, why is that not an issue in hockey or basketball?
There's only 5 people per team to watch (not including the goalie) instead of 11, and they are all "eligible" to do the same things regardless of position.
That is not the case for football with eligible receivers, who's on the line of scrimmage, illegal men downfield, etc.
The refs already suck in football. IDK about you, but anything to make their job harder is not a good idea.
Helps the refs determine who to watch during the play. For example, in pass blocking, the OL can only go 1-yd beyond the LoS until the pass is thrown. In college, its 3-yds (which is often violated by design in offenses like OSU's). The NFL line judge will instantly know what he's looking at - an OL or a TE that could be on a route...
Wouldn't mind seeing more negative, fractional and even triple digit numbers used. Let's spice it up!
throw in some imaginary numbers and I'm game
Keep it real - let's not be irrational here, people.
I don't like or pay attention to rugby.
...the tackle ELIGIBLE rule and much will be explained.
It's important for refs to be able to easily distinguish between eligible and ineligible receivers. In college, ineligible receivers must wear a number from 50-79; eligible receivers can wear anything else. That makes a lot more sense than the NFL's system, which further divides up offensive and defensive positions into numerical subsets, even though there is getting to be less and less of a difference among the positions.
I've always wondered...are there big fights in locker rooms for #69? Given the mentality of most 18 yo males, you'd think so...
NIce.
He's been 96ing for years, and just doesn't get what all the fuss is about...
I believe you mean to say "the act of love."
I don't think anybody wanted to fight big Willie Henry for that number
I'd like #9 and #88 to catch long TD passes early so that we can watch whatever numbers our ten RB's wear grind out the clock against FLA's DL. Old time rock n roll.
If his number was given away as part of his punishment, do you suppose #88 was issued to him as it provides an excellent example to follow? JBooty was a pretty damn good student/citizen to go along with his skills.
Just put an "!" on the dude's jersey. Can't wait to see his first college game and catch. Hope it's a 70 yard bomb against Florida.
GO BLUE!!
gonna be very interesting to see how the young WRs begin and progress - well, all young players for that matter. no secret theyve got a talented but extremely young and inexperienced roster...always psyched for football season but im especially excited to see this season unfold given the roster makeup. the staff and team leaders have their work cut out for them but that squad has a chance if enough guys develop and mature fast enough. cant wait!

Considering how often Speight looked for Butt last year if I was a Michigan eligible receiver I'd buy a Butt costume and tell everyone my name is Jake.
