Najee Harris Update Part 31482375098 - Tua is Smart, Wasn't Supposed to Leak, Doesn't Know Anything
The saga continues...
“I’ll just say Tua is a smart kid and leave it like that,” the source said. As we were talking, the report broke about Tagovailoa saying the two were on the same flight. That’s when things got interesting. “He (Tua) wasn’t supposed to leak that out yet,” the source said. “Tua doesn’t know anything.”
The source says he wasn't supposed to leak it out "yet," so I'm still pessimistic.
That said, who knows?

Don't care.
Sam Webb.

Did Sam have anything new other than thinking Najee ends up in the class? I didn't see anything after the flight story yesterday.
January 5th, 2017 at 11:53 AM ^
The last thing I read from Sam is that he has info that shows one of two things. Either Najee is telling both Michigan and Alabama the same positive things, or he is only telling Michigan these things and he will be a Wolverine. That said, Sam's opinion is that Najee isn't the type of kid that would play both sides like that, take that FWIW.
January 5th, 2017 at 10:35 AM ^
My opinion?
Najee has told both Alabama and Michigan that he is committed, hence the optimism on both sides. He has to disappoint one, but does not want to. I think he's in a situation where he has to break bad news, but may be too... (I dunno) shy, nice, non-confrontational, nervous... to do it. Pick one.
It fits with his behavior. Doesn't want to announce. Puts the decision off. Just wants to show up to a school. I don't think he wants to call either coaching staff and rescind the commitment.
I've been there to some extent. Putting off telling one group that I have to back off of a job offer I had accepted. It's hard to make that call, but eventually you have to do it. I think avoiding that call makes me a little concerned about his confidence and follow through.
January 5th, 2017 at 10:41 AM ^
It's almost like you think he's a human or something.
January 5th, 2017 at 10:51 AM ^
Yep. Human and flawed. People are all debating on WHY he would drag it out like this. In my opinion, this has probably gotten away from him and the longer he waits, the more stress is building on his end towards which way to go.
So I think it's a coin flip. Which offer does he eventually select? Nobody actually knows right now.
January 5th, 2017 at 10:59 AM ^
Najee has not uttered a single word to the public or media. Is there any indication that he is actually stressed out or conflicted? Any actual evidence that he is conflicted or wavering from his Alabama committment?
...
January 5th, 2017 at 11:03 AM ^
How did you read either of my above posts and still come up with this question?
January 5th, 2017 at 11:14 AM ^
January 5th, 2017 at 11:36 AM ^
Conjecture? Yes. Fiction? That's a little bit of a reach. I would say it is my best guess given an incomplete set of data. Almost everything on here is conjecture. I never said this IS what is going on behind the scenes. I just suggested the a potential reason for why this is happening. It's just as accurate as all the other speculation.
He suggested there is no evidence that Najee is conflicted or wavering. I would consider that a really dumb assertion, as there is a bunch of evidence that he is both.
January 5th, 2017 at 12:20 PM ^
If Najee just shows up at one school, the other school has no options. They can't put on the hard press, because he's already enrolled.
Conversely, If he were to annouce to one, the other would jump on the first flight and "get in his face". This appears to be something he wants to avoid.

the media. He just doesn't talk to them as much as most recruits and hasn't told them where he's going. Read this for recent quotes.

when recruits pick another school, I can't imagine why this high profile recruit would be nervous about making the decision and call.
Add in the fact that he probably bonded with recruits and coaches on both sides and the dissapointment that is inevitable on one side and its even harder to understand why he doesn't just tell the world since we can't wait the extra week.
some people, right.
January 5th, 2017 at 11:07 AM ^
I don't know if you thought my post was an indictment on how Harris is handling it, but it wasn't meant to be. It's hard to let people down. Even harder when you're letting down people you like and also thousands of people you don't know, many of which are chemically imbalanced. The right thing to do is to end it as soon as you're sure, but it is not the easy thing to do.
January 5th, 2017 at 11:37 AM ^
with a sarcastic remark.
I think your assesment of the situation is on the mark. He seems like a really nice kid. He and his mom went and visited one of my wife's patients in Mott on his official visit to look at what type of volunteer programs he'd be doing.
In 2008 I had an opportunity to go to Houston for a great job working for a company and people I really liked. I had even accepted the job. I felt horrible when I called to rescind my acceptance. I get pretty sweaty in 90 and humid in Michigan. Think I would be dead in 110 and humid in Houston.
January 5th, 2017 at 12:51 PM ^
This is such a great point. A lot of 17 year olds don't yet have it in them to feel comfortable disappointing people and engage in behavior that some adults would frown upon at best.
It's why Dad's bottles of vodka in the basement were filled will water when I thought he'd notice.
January 5th, 2017 at 10:57 AM ^
I agree. This fits with what Lorenz just posted on twitter, that Najee is going back to Cali. I think he's going to sit down with his "inner circle" mom, uncle, maybe coach/trainer, and think about it. I like where we stand with Mom and Uncle. Clearly his brother likes us but I'm not sure that he has much influence. I think Michigan has a lot of things going in its favor with Najee's people, who will attempt to give him comfort in letting down Tua and other Bama friends he has made.
January 5th, 2017 at 11:20 AM ^
FWIW, Bama just now offered a 2017 in-state RB. Doubt it gives anything away on how they stand but I guess it's noteworthy.
January 5th, 2017 at 11:38 AM ^
As a PWO. I said yesterday in one of the many Najee threads that if they think they've lost him they would probably push for Anthony MacFarland. So if you Alabama Ballz for MacFarland then pop the champagne.
January 5th, 2017 at 12:20 PM ^
Ah. Thanks I must have missed that. Makes more sense now.

It says "1 hour ago."
The source may be a fan boy, but he hasn't been contradicted by Webb or Lorenz.
January 5th, 2017 at 10:22 AM ^
The quote he is writing about that says Tua is a smart kid was all over twitter yesterday.
So he's a wannabe recruiting analyst, Bama fan boy who is slow. Even better.

Isn't the "doesn't know anything" quotation new, though?
January 5th, 2017 at 10:52 AM ^
I had seen everything in the yellow box in your OP yesterday.

Sort of, but this one has more detail than what came out yesterday. I continue to be skeptical about Harris ending up in our class.
January 5th, 2017 at 10:26 AM ^
No, literally this exact quote was well-spread around yesterday. Kirschner (sp?) is just reporting on it about 18 hours late. Because he is an ass.
January 5th, 2017 at 10:36 AM ^
I know that particular quote was out yesterday, but if you read the article posted above, it contains more info than was available yesterday.

So like an Alabama Chat Sports?
January 5th, 2017 at 10:18 AM ^
maybe means that he doesn't know about Najee wanting to flip?
January 5th, 2017 at 10:19 AM ^
"Wasn't supposed to leak that out yet?" YET?
Still doesn't sound good to me.
January 5th, 2017 at 10:30 AM ^
for the last minute because he's likely been advised to do this to increase the publicity.
Internet is a double edged sword, glad we're able to blow up these troll antics before they launch their signing day self promotion troll drama.

The opposite in fact
January 5th, 2017 at 12:38 PM ^
How is it that this guy "wasn't supposed to leak that out yet", but he also "doesn't know anything"?
I call shenanigans.
January 5th, 2017 at 10:19 AM ^
Once he's enrolled and on campus, the school, whichever one it is, will finally be allowed to comment officially, right?
When is that going to happen?
January 5th, 2017 at 10:33 AM ^
In theory by Monday I think.
January 5th, 2017 at 10:40 AM ^
and then we can all finally watch his highlight film!

I thought it was kind of cool to hear "DOOOOOOOOM" during the first game. We never would have heard that had the fan base not anticipated his impact for a few months.
Anticipation is half of the fun.
(Well, not HALF, but a % anyway)

Elvis Grbac was a big surprise too.
It was the '89 Notre Dame game (the Rocket game, yeah I know) and Michael Taylor got hurt. In comes this big gangly kid with a funny name as the backup QB . . . and he throws the ball all over the place and almost wins the game for us.
We didn't know what was more surprising: that he could do it, or that Bo would let him.
January 5th, 2017 at 11:23 AM ^
Then immediately trying to find out everything I could about who was backing him up.
January 5th, 2017 at 10:27 AM ^
I've thought this a million times. AT LEAST! Haha.
With all the attention these kids (sans Harris allegedly) love getting, it has to come with it enormously increased pressure.
It wasn't that long ago you knew you were good based on how many coaches called your house phone number and you sat in your kitchen and chatted, and/or came to your school with little/no fanfare to take you out of study hall. And if you flopped, few in the fan base were overly disappointed. They didn't know enough to care that a more highly touted kid was beaten out by one with fewer offers. They just figured the 5 best OLmen were on the field and hoped we'd beat Purdue or whomever it was on the other side when toe met leather at 1:05, hopefully for us fans in a televised contest.
