Jeremiah Holloman Decommits
It kind of looked like he was out given a couple tweets he sent, but they were vague enough to wait for some confirmation. Confirmation:
Newton (GA) 2017 three-star wide receiver Jeremiah Holloman has reopened his recruitment, Dawgs247 analyst Kipp Adams confirmed on Friday morning.
Insert your own Swenson joke here.
Holloman is a three star guy who seemed poised to move up if he could maintain a strong camp performance over the rest of the t-shirt season; no idea if Michigan will keep after him or not. One of the tweets indicated he didn't feel like a priority, so maybe not.
Holloman's decommit leaves M with four in the 2017 class, including teammate and GA RB Kurt Taylor.

The nice thing about being a fan is that I can now promptly ignore recruiting for 11 months.
February 12th, 2016 at 12:26 PM ^
I casually follow... meaning I read pretty much everything on here, don't go anywhere else, and don't get too hyped up until about a month before signing day.
Now that we have Harbaugh our committed lists pretty much read as best guesses at this point anyway.

Fair enough... maybe i just wish I would ignore recruiting. But in the end get sucked into following it anyway.

He did not want to be forced into hard labor in Florida during his spring breaks here.

Maybe he emailed/phoned the staff multiple times - with no return. Who knows. But he seemed like a guy we maybe wanted to stay on. Imagine if the staff was staying in contact with Taylor, but not him?
Anyway, with the season i expect us to have, combined with the relentlessness and high level Harbaugh recruits at, im not worried one bit. Another top 5 class here we come!
February 12th, 2016 at 12:22 PM ^
If he is a teammate of Taylor and the staff was in good contact with him, it'd quickly get awkward for Holloman. I see Holloman also just picked up an Ole Miss scholarship. I imagine that means he has or will soon pick up other SEC offers. Wish him the best.

Well, Michigan did take 5 receivers in the 2016 class, so maybe that's a factor, too.

If I err, but the staff is not permitted to speak with recruits until spring.
2/5/16 - 4/14/16 Quiet Period
Quiet Period: "The quiet period tightens things a bit more, preventing any off-campus contact or viewing. Visits to the college's campus and written or electronic communications are still permitted."

Would be a problem if he *wanted* the staff to call him back and they didn't respond through the same channel.
February 12th, 2016 at 2:12 PM ^
No they are permitted to talk to them via phone text etc. They just cant be face to face etc.
February 12th, 2016 at 2:27 PM ^
The reference cited. It states that on-campus visits are permitted, so face-to-face would seem to be allowed.
In any event, the reason why he decommitted has not been published yet.
February 12th, 2016 at 12:58 PM ^
In case others didn't catch the meaning of your Quiet Period quote.
Although they can't speak or visit him, it does say they can still write or use electronic communication.
They should be able to send letters, emails, text, tweets from the sound of it.
So we have no idea what has happened.

I'm not saying this about him, because I don't know. There will be quite a few decomitts that will occur because of a concern that there will be a lot of competition to get on the field.

Is this something you've heard someplace or is it, like, you know, your opinion. Man.

Yeah I like these comments.
There is little competition at Bama, FSU, Auburn, Stanford, OSU
Michigan? Yeah its the one place there is competition in CFB.

He probably wasn't a priority for the staff. They are in on some of the very best talent all over the country. I don't believe they will change their recruiting strategy too much, but I hope we don't get a repeat of taking a ton of commitments from low 3 star guys and have the bad PR of cutting them lose later. Not saying UM did anything wrong, but Michigan can recruit at a very high level without taking Plan C commitments way early in the process. In Harbaugh I trust though.....
February 12th, 2016 at 12:43 PM ^
Yeah, I don't think that's an issue for Holloman. Especially not at this point. My guess is that this is coming more from Holloman's end. It was somewhat understood when he committed that he would be a big flight risk if big offers from the South were earned, and now that seems to be coming to fruition.

That is why its a little strange to me. This is not some middling 3 star. This is a guy who will eventually become a low to mid 4 star based on what i see. He is a guy that i would want in my class.
Bu then again, i would settle on a low to mid 4* talent. Our coach - maybe not.
February 12th, 2016 at 5:06 PM ^
He did say the Michigan staff didn't make him feel like a priority. The staff is probably only going to take two or three wideouts in this class, so there is possibilty he was a Plan C type for them. They have some bg names they are after and only a few spots for them. Not saying Holloman isn't a real talent, but the staff cooled on him for some reason.
February 12th, 2016 at 12:49 PM ^
highly doubt hell be a 3 star for much longer. this kid has talent and a chance to be a real player. figured it was only a matter of time before he started picking up big time southern / national offers
February 12th, 2016 at 2:17 PM ^
Also he would not have receieved any big offers if not for the Michigan offer which got him attention. So we did a him a solid because we are altruistic.

If we really want to keep Kurt Taylor, we wouldn't stop communicating with him. That's not how we operated with any set of teammates in the just completed recruiting class. This feels like the Vicious Vic decommitment more than anything else.
February 12th, 2016 at 12:54 PM ^
Does this have any impact on the LB recruit from Newton that we're trying to flip from UCLA?
It'd be nice to grab a few guys from a school or area every year to really build up piplelines.
February 12th, 2016 at 1:04 PM ^
that this is because Harbaugh is a cheater, and all the cheatorial cheating finally became too much for this recruit to handle. The cheatangery of this current cheating coaching staff is out of control, and if they continue with their cheatanigans the NCAA should really do some to stop any further cheatishness.
Holloman probably did not want to give up his spring break either.

Pushed out for Donovan People Jones obviously.
On a serious note - hard to take any committment seriously in the Harbaugh era until Decemberish ahead of the Feb signing day. I think we had 14 or so kids who were in last year's class who didnt end up there or nearly 50% of the class. Hard to really "believe" in any committment right now.

Michigan was a placeholder for him, simple as that. Happens in recruiting, business, dating, real estate, everywhere. You get an offer, give some kind of verbal, then see what else comes along. In this case he saw a lot of nice alternatives coming by and now feels he'll be picking, not vice versa. It's early in the recruiting cycle, and was probably inevitable, so on we go.
