John O'Korn Number 5?
In the post on the front page about returning players John O'Korn is wearing number 5. He was #5 at Houston and at St Thomas Aquinas. Naturally if he's the starter, will he be asked to change his number (?) because that would mean Jabrill couldn't be on the field at the same time. Not a problem per se, but Jabrill was also number 5 in high school, so perhaps both players are attached to their numbers...?
Perhaps Harbaugh will have a fun competition for them to decide who keeps it?

Surely he will take 15

He wears 55 I'm pretty sure.

Rudock and Ross wore the same number this year.
BTW Gary should wear 55, because Brandon Graham did.

but I kinda got chills when I read that. I mean, Brandon Graham wore the number. That makes 55 a really big deal.

Rashan has worn 3 and 33 at PC. With Taco on 33 and Des leaving, I'm certain Gary will be given #3 if he wants it.

And we will likely retire #5 one day.

If he leaves after next season, he definitely needs to have one hell of a season. If anything less than going to new york, I sure hope he comes back. But who knows
January 6th, 2016 at 8:52 PM ^
What makes you think it's unlikely that Peppers eventually wins a Heisman?
January 7th, 2016 at 8:37 AM ^
Well since defensive players win the award at a rate of once every 81 years, and it has been 18 seasons since the last one, I would say it is unlikely that he wins the award.
He will need a year where not only is he an All-American DB, but also scores multiple TD's in both other phases of the game. He will probably need a more impressive year than Woodson had to win it in 1997, since Chuck will be the standard any defensive player is held to.

I say he goes with 11

Is #2 retired? Because if there's anyone I'd be okay with wearing that number, it's Jabrill.

Again, I say no way...but what the hell do I know?

This is actually a great idea... except that I want Peppers to keep #5 and have UM retire it one day. If he stays long enough, that will happen.
January 6th, 2016 at 6:19 PM ^
I hate retiring numbers...just build a statue or something.
Banning anyone else from wearing a number is dumb. People aspire to be like the idols, especially in athletics.
And no number makes the player...it's him NAME that lives forever. Woodson means a hell of a lot more than #2 in my mind.
The only thing people recognize more than #23? Jordan.
Retiring numbers is so old. I get it if it's got a bigger meaning than just football. For example, in baseball #42. Or at Arizona St. no one should ever wear Pat Tillman's number. Those are fine. And if you want to retire Ford or even Harmon...I'm okay with that.
But retiring the number of every single elite player in your program? Silly.
Put their name on the stadium. Build a statue. Do something to honor the PERSON and the PLAYER...the number is just a number.
January 6th, 2016 at 6:32 PM ^
I couldn't agree more. While I associate specific players with the number they wore, his name is what deserves more recognition. I don't refer to Woodson as ole #2 or Woodley as big #56, I think of their name and the plays they made. They themselves are the legacy, not the number. I'd love to see another great player wear #21 lining up in the backfield or outside the hash just I love seeing a hulking figure wearing #77 on the end of the OL.
January 6th, 2016 at 6:37 PM ^
Since players are generally larger than when the two decimal digit standard was imposed; perhaps we're ready to move to three digit numbers. Perhaps Mr O'Korn would like #555.
Or, perhaps we're ready to advance to hexadecimal: #A5 for you, Mr O'Korn?
I could support either of these proposals, but together they seem to be overkill. Of course, the combination would have allowed Ruddock to wear #DAD.
