"HarBod" Photographer Speaks
Albert Cesare, a photographer from the Montgomery Advertiser, was the photographer who took the now-famous photo of the shirtless Coach Harbaugh with his hands over his head catching a football. He penned an article whereby he seems to be almost surprised with the instant celebrity of Harbaugh, the man, the myth, the legend. He asks why the world would care so much about a picture of a man, when they fail to be so affected by his pictures of starving horses or when they fail to create derivative memes about the flailing Alabama legislature. Those questions must be rhetorical to some extent because it's hard for us to answer why Coach Harbaugh has become bigger than life. He is our Coach, but he is also a celebrity (as Freddy Canteen rightfully noted). A former NFL player, a former NFL coach, a TV persona, and a name that everyone in America knows.
I do not have a concise answer for Mr. Cesare, but I must say, that I have never felt so lucky as a Michigan fan, a Michigan alum, a Michigan man, to have a coach that makes me so excited not only for Michigan football, but for every single day.
Further, to Mr. Cesare, I agree that we should "share meaningful content not just what [we] find entertaining" and I believe that here on MGoBlog, we do see ourselves as a cut above the average blog, and hopefully, we will all strive to pursue our own lives with an "enthusiasm unknown to mankind".
takes a picture that is viewed all over the world. He then writes an article to bitch about it.
What an asshole.
I wonder how much he will bitch when wins the Pulitzer for this amazing photo.
This Joker has no idea what he captured on camera.
Perhaps he'll win the Pulitzer in the Clouseau category.
Harbaugh wasnt in charge of the construction.
... he thinks there are more important things than having a picture he took of a shirtless middle aged man be shared by thousands of people.
And if you agree with it, the photographer is part of the problem.
Did he have to take the picture and post it? Shouldn't he have been busy making the world a better place somewhere?
Harbaugh is so white. He is like an angel and a unicorn!
Yes!
Uh? Seriously? The dude was asked a question and he used his response to draw attention to stuff that matters to him. How's that a problem?
Why in the hell would his desire for people to engage in issues he finds important be an insult to you?
He gave us an outstanding glimpse into something that matters to us, be grateful and move on.
This.
We've become so insanely cynical, and rightly so.
But,....
What was I talking about?
"This is the day that the LORD has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it."
"Who's got it better than us?"
How much unwanted Kardashians are people getting on their phones?
The very limited number of times they've made an appearance on my phone I've always had an "oh, shit" moment where I realized the blame was on me.
One day, along came a magic power called Photoshop, and the little hobbit was beautiful. And even though she still couldn't sing like Beyonce, or dance like Beyonce, or act like Beyonce, or be a decent human being like Beyonce, the little hobbit was looked up to and loved- just like Beyonce.
Almost all were unaware of them.
Made me think--the Amish must be on to something.
It's only fair. The Kardashians have no idea who the Amish are.
if he had not taken that picture. Bitching about society's focus on superficiality is so lame. People watch sports to escape from the every day trials and tribulations most of us face. They don't want to know about starving horses, Eritean human rights violations, or any other example of the banality of evil.
It's depressing and people have enough problems to deal in their lives. You can criticize that as self-absorption and as being cruelly indifferent. That's fine. But most people have their hands full with the struggles of life and such struggles do not leave much time or energy to combat the unending list of cruelties that plague our world.
His finger waggering only serves to boost his personal sense of righteousness. If he truly gave a fuck he'd feed those horses himself or at least make a serious effort to get people to help him do so. Alas, all he could give those poor creatures was a few clicks of the camera.Jane Goodall he is not.
I often find that those who mewl the most about the problems of the world are to be found among those who do the least about said problems.

And it's not that I even disagree with him on principle. It just sounded hypocritical.
Here, I bought you a gift.
You're a bad person for liking the gift I bought you.
back to the starving horses?
I don't think he's necessarily complaining about the attention. It's more of a "thought/fluff" piece on why, we as a society, care more about Harbaugh than about seemingly more "real" events/issues.
I think he was also genuinely surprised by the level of attention Harbaugh got and the craze surrounding the picture.
Mr. Cesare should be thankful to Harbaugh. Because of Harbaugh, he now has a platform to voice his concern about what the public chooses to care about.
Yeah I get that. I've photographer a lot of cool stuff in my time but nothing has been quite as popular on Twitter as a picture I photoshopped of shirtless Jim
Harbaugh stealing sad Urban Meyers pizza.
I love what Harbaugh is doing with the program and with college football. He deserves the respect and the publicity he has earned. The man works hard every day to the last effing minute. Is there a plateau? I am worried about a depressing feeling if the sports world stops finding him interesting. I NEED SECURITY AND STABILITY!!!
Take a few deep breaths. Everything will be alright because...JH.
+1 for your user name.
That was calming and notably comforting.
The answer is simple. The purpose of life is to find happiness. Most search their entire lives for that feeling and although some find it it is fleeting and through their grasp as quick as it came. Jim Harbaugh is the physical manifestation of that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow of man's search for happiness. It can be seen in his body language most effusively. The exuberance of a child in a man's body but with a grounded persona. That's coach.
Deep.
Not as deep as the depths of a soul or a basket of fries from Red Robin.
I think this one is the greatest Harbaugh picture of all time because it shows the intensity that Harbaugh has. He's holding a camp for high schoolers and he has one of them by the shorts trying to stop him.
I have never felt so lucky as a Michigan fan, a Michigan alum, a Michigan man, to have a coach that makes me so excited not only for Michigan football, but for every single day.
You had me until that last part, and then I was all, like, priorities, dude.
Jim Harbaugh is indeed in Texas pic.twitter.com/733rpNWcmv
