OT: What's Your Guiltiest Song?
I feel like it's going to be a slow week for the board so thought a lighthearted Monday question was apropos: What is your Guiltiest Song? The one you would sing in your car by yourself but change the channel if anyone else was with you. The song that you would like and claim that it "came with the iPhone." For fun, try to name one Oldie and one newer song.
For me, it's gotta be:
Oldie: "Straight Up" by Paula Abdul
Newbie: "Roar" by Katy Perry
DISCUSS (but silently judge me)

+1 for you.
I think it's one of the best pop songs ever written.
Is that true? Is there a folk-version recording out there?
When you factor in the goals of writing a modern pop song... not just being catchy but knowing your audience and coming up with something that tween and teen girls are gonna talk about and sing all day long and use as a ringtone, they really nailed it.
No, it's not Beethoven, obviously. But for what it is, for what it set out to be.... it is damn near perfect.
Plus watching my then five year old do all the dance moves to it at the father daughter school dance last year is going to go down as one of my all time favorite memories forever.
The "Roar" music video makes my downstairs feel tingly. And really, most Katy Perry song's could be listed in this thread - mine would be California Girls.
I'll give you a pass on Cali Girls... that beat is fantastic, and Snoop's verse fits perfectly.
For oldies, No Doubt's cover of "It's My Life" is still a kickass song. Although I feel like I'd still sing that regardless. Not even ashamed. Vanessa Carlton's "500 Miles" maybe.
Roar is a good choice.
I love the original. The album it came from, of the same name, is one of my favorites. In fact, I have a "Talk Talk" Pandora station.
As far as answering the OP, someone posted a video from Babymetal last year and I've been hooked ever since.
Oh Talk Talk is great, especially a couple of their later albums. This is one song though where I actually do prefer the cover to the original...pretty hard to beat Gwen Stefani.
When you said Talk Talk, I was excited because there might be other George Maple fans on this blog. I guess you were talking about something completely different.
This is the song, I was thinking when I read Talk Talk.
I don't think I've ever changed the radio station or skipped this song when it comes on in a playlist. It might be perfect.

There's something about Katy Perry that just seems so hot. She's my celebrity crush. Well one of many. Rachel McAdams is tops on the list.
Hail and Unite.
Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.
Christy, take off your robe.
Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism.
Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little.
Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock.
Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your asshole.
Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds.
Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it.
But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.
He's quoting Patrick Bateman from American Psycho.
you're awesome
EDIT: My other guilty pleasure songs include:
Hungry Like a Wolf
Down in Africa
And anything by the Bee Gee's or KC and the Sunshine Band.
+1 billion

Avril. Nuff said.
Oh +1 ... Mine is Avril's "Girlfriend"
+1 for both Avril songs and don't forget "Complicated".
The music video is pretty good too.
To preface how guilty of a pleasure these are for me, I'm a big, tall, somewhat intimidating looking 30 year old half-black guy.
Old school - "If I Could Turn Back Time" by Cher
New School - "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus
To be honest, I'd probably still sing a long with both of these songs around people.
You win by a mile with that Cher song.
and +1 for manning up about the Miley song, it does have a catchy beat though.
EMF's "unbelievable".

I loved me some pre bald head and went nutzo Britney!
I was outta the contest.
I'll be in my bunk.
But yeah. Toxic for me too. For, uh, reasons.
More current - I really like the Fields of Gold cover that Michigan native Josh Davis performed on The Voice last week. Actually bought it on iTunes. Said I was doing it to support a local artist (it counts as votes on the show) but really I've listened to it at least a dozen times.
And a couple other Pop Evil songs that get play on XM Octane.
Your username makes complete sense.
Is really cute.
+1
She is on the show Undateable. NBC, Tuesdays at 9
In the same vein, Bohemian Rhapsody.
There was a song by Fun called Carry on that came out in the last couple years, anyone who knows me, knows I don't listen to shit like that, but everytime I hear that song its stuck in my head for the remainder of the day. Its pretty catchy.
