If Harbaugh doesn’t happen it’s going to be exactly like Y2K, with a lot of confused posters retreating to their well-provisioned basements, wondering what could have been.

And if it does happen all the people who are always giant smart asses saying it won't happen will still be douche bags and not eat a bit of crow for being wrong.

Are you talking about Sam Webb? Because Webb has been somewhat negative compared to the rest of the local media about Harbaugh up until this evening. Clearly something significant has happened.

Andy Moeller and Ty Wheatley? WTF? People are really running with shit tonight. Settle down.

Unless Brian, Chris Balas and Sam Webb are trolls, I'm not sure their "plan" is going to work out.

if they've been outed as MSU trolls. (Or ND trolls for that matter). People here are often too willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Hello sons of Tyrone Wheatley!
December 16th, 2014 at 3:35 AM ^
you would be surprised if Andy Moeller was given a title to match his current paygrade in the NFL to come here and work for his longtime friend?
December 16th, 2014 at 8:52 AM ^
Not surprised about the money to compensate the move from the NFL back to college, but I would be surprised that a career OL coach would be given co-OC responsibilities when he has never served in that capacity. That would almost be as dumb as letting a career DL coach be a head coach, but UM wouldn't do anything that stupid.

Les Miles
December 16th, 2014 at 9:53 AM ^
In football, that typically goes from position coach to the coordinator level above that position. That's a natural progression of promotion. Moving from the NFL to college often would come with a promotion in position level. At 50, in the coaching profession, that promotion isn't uncommon.
And, FWIW, maybe outside of QB, I would say that former-OL coaches typically are the most common OCs. They typically are some of the smarter guys, and typically understand as well as anyone else the limitations of their offense.
So yeah, giving a career, 50 year old, NFL OL coach a Co-OC position wouldn't be that odd.
And enough with the "as dumb as letting a career DL coach" crap. Urban Meyer was a career WR coach before becoming a HC. Ferentz was a career OL coach before becoming Iowa's HC. Pat Fitzgerald was a career LB coach before becoming Northwestern's HC. Hazell was a career WR coach before being Purdue's HC. Randy Edsall had one year as a DC before becoming a HC, he was a career DB coach. Not to mention Hoke was the associate HC at Michigan before getting a HC gig, which he was groomed for. Not to mention he was a HC at Ball St and SDSU before being Michigan's HC. Not to mention that many new coordinators are "career" something else coaches. Lloyd Carr was a career DB coach before becoming Michigan's DC.
So really, I don't think you have a point here. And I don't mean to pick on you specifically, but some people around here have been crazy with the expectations for every coach. If we don't get Harbaugh people are going to freak. Some say Stoops isn't good enough. The only acceptable OC/DCs seem to be guys that already have succeeded at a major school or in the NFL or as a head coach. NFL coaches should take the NFL equivalent position coach at Michigan, or it's not good enough. But I honestly wouldn't be surprised, even if Harbaugh got the HC position, if Wheatley turned down being a Co-OC at Michigan. He certainly wouldn't take the RB coach position, nor should he. But that's the odd expectation that makes absolutely no sense, and this kind of thought process isn't just limited to a few, the expectations for everything are shoot for the moon or it's a bust hire.
December 16th, 2014 at 12:15 PM ^
I'd actually prefer to see Fred Jackson as Co-OC. He's like Tyrone Wheatley, only faster and with more recruiting experience.
I'll miss coach Jackson. He's done a lot for the program, and has been highly quotable.
December 16th, 2014 at 2:50 PM ^
And enough with the "as dumb as letting a career DL coach" crap. Urban Meyer was a career WR coach before becoming a HC.
Urban Meyer was a career WR coach before becoming a HC... at BGSU.
Ferentz was a career OL coach before becoming Iowa's HC.
Ferentz was head coach at Maine before Iowa.
Pat Fitzgerald was a career LB coach before becoming Northwestern's HC. Hazell was a career WR coach before being Purdue's HC. Randy Edsall had one year as a DC before becoming a HC, he was a career DB coach.
...and none of those three are good coaches.
I will agree that dinging Hoke for being a career DL coach is wrong - the reason not to hire him wasn't that he was a career DL coach, it's that he had a mediocre to poor head coaching record running MAC level programs.

IBD.
But anyhow, I updated the main post on Durkin.
EDIT 11:20 PM EST - more Henson rumor mongering is Harbaugh looking at DJ Durkin as DC. He is current interim coach of UF and served 2 years under Muschamp as DC. Connection to Harbaugh = special teams coach for Stanford in 07-09. 36 years old (!).
Durkin is a Youngstown (!) OH boy, who has tons of Midwest ties via Bowling Green, Notre Dame in 2001-2006 as a GA and position coach. Been at Florida since 2010.

Harbaugh is heavily involved in the offense, play-calling and all. Doubt there would be a problem.
December 16th, 2014 at 12:18 AM ^
Then even less reason for having Co-OC's, no?
December 16th, 2014 at 3:50 AM ^
Urban Meyer has co-OCs and he basically calls plays. Harbaugh also had co-OCs at Stanford.
